Funny noise in dash
watchamakalit replied to Whitaker717's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
One of the blend doors in the heater box could use some lube I would say. -
See original post. Only oil on motor is shown on the pan. Pan gasket and rms were both original the way it looked. Old rms was hard as porcelain. Either way the both needed and got done. Hopefully no more leaks.

Silly question about post footers...

Painting Tow mirrors....

3 p's. Thats way more efficient than the 6 I was taught. Prior planning prevents piss poor performance. -
The oil was full of stripper glitter. It was beautiful. As do the pinion I don't believe so but havent pulled the driveshaft yet. I changed the oil in it probably 4-5yrs ago. I plan to inspect well. I am pretty sure I lost a carrier bearing or 2. Planning to do some parts collecting and plan a rebuild weekend. I have helped (stood around and tried to absorb as much as possible) 2 times rebuilding differentials. I am still a bit nervous about doing one solo, but if I don't try I'll never learn.

20210920_163734.mp4 Sorry about the background noise. I guess I'm not as green as I implied. Lol I understand what backlash is. This isnt backlash.

Today was a fairly productive day. I got the rms changed and a new pan gasket installed. Old one was leaking. May have been pan gasket but judging by the condition of the old they both needed changed. The pan was pretty sledged up. Took a while to clean that up. New rms. Sorry didnt get a pic of the upper half installed. Gave the oil pan a coat of paint. After all that I dug into a mysterious growl from the rear d44. Pulled the rear shafts expecting to see a trashed wheel bearing since I recently changed them. Fortunately they are fine. Unfortunately it seems the carrier bearings are shot. Time for a rebuild. Maybe a limited slip? -
Its too late......

I guess there is no time like the present to learn....

I pulled the shafts looking for the growl. Wheel bearings are maybe 6 months old. Pulled the cover as the investigation continued. Caps still installed I can move three entire carrier. I have a video but I'm not sure how to post it.

I'm pretty green on differentials. But I know I shouldnt be able to grab hold of the ring gear and wiggle it up and down or side to side. Would it be carrier bearings.

I put a GM tbi injection unit on my 258. Haven't Done any major testing yet but it runs well. The multi port injection might be a little more difficult, but I'm sure it's possible. Edit: the 258 is in the cj not my mj -
After seeing @CGCWO before and after pics, I really like the black tow mirrors. My Question is would paint be the best way to go about it or should I look into something like plasti dip? I have slowly repainting trim on my truck as I have it off for various projects. I have been using a Krylon Satin black. Should I just scuff and shoot the mirrors and brackets?

Floors and frame are not the best. It looks deceptively good from 10'

From what I can find this is a difficult process in Indiana. If I could obtain a title with a fairly simple process I would. I sit around frequently thinking of what I could do with the carcass.....

I'm not for sure but I think there will be a difference in the electrical connections for the trans. But should be easy to over come. -

I run h4 hoisings in my cj and had them in a mj years ago. I think mine are ipf. They are the way to go. Upgraded harnrss and bulbs you won't be disappointed. I think the only thing better would be a light bar.
