Hmmm. I just changed my steering box and never encountered this spacer.... -
Chunk of steel in front of steering gear

I've never seen that piece. is it a non power steering only piece? -
92 Comanche - Dream Truck!
watchamakalit replied to James92's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I would recommend treating the rest of the floors with some rust stop. The surface rust that is there won't get any better under carpet. -
Replicating MJ Bumper Caps
watchamakalit replied to White_Comanche's topic in Vendors- members making products for MJs
I have a set but need to check condition. I know at least 1 has broken studs. not sure on the exterior shape. I will check in a couple days. -
More cj's on the forum is a good thing!!! Maybe I should get mine out and back in service......

Mildly Rough Clutch Pedal
watchamakalit replied to White_Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If your plan is to replace the entire system you might want to look into the possibility of buying a complete setup already assembled and bled. I don't know if it's available still, or for your model. But when I replaced my external slave system they were. Kinda nice to have a factory assembly. -
Well, I too had to look up what an oetiker clamp is. That led to a rabbit hole about hose clamps in general. It seems constant tension clamps are preferred in large temperature swing applications, due to their ability to maintain clamping pressure with the movement. After wasting an afternoon reading about all the different types of clamps and capabilities of them I begin to question why we have worn clamps. There seems to be a better option in every category one way or another.

Ugh what a day. Pics as promised. Couldn't tell you where I got the lug wrench, been too many moons ago. It all works well together especially when I add the battery impact in the mix. The spare tire tool is my custom concoction.

Crap. I forgot all about this thread. Pics incoming this morning......

Hard to say WHY it only does it at speed. ANY play in the steering system from the steering wheel to the ground can cause problems. Manual or auto trans? Wonder if it's a clutch or transmission shudder? Not sure just kinda spit-balling ideas.

Is the steering linkage all in good working order? What about the steering gearbox and lower steering column? Do you feel the vibration in the entire truck, or mainly in the steering wheel? is it random when it occurs, or related to turns or bumps in the road? What condition are your wheel bearings in?

Help: Spare Tire Carrier Components
watchamakalit replied to DesertComanche86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think this might be the elusive (86?) Only tire carrier bar..... -
I'm definitely not against the idea of helicoil repair. I just know my luck with things like this. Id end up breaking 4 drill bits and wasting 2 days trying to fix the old one. Only to give up in frustration and buy a junkyard unit.

Chunk, A 1984 XJ
watchamakalit replied to eaglescout526's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Does 276 cool as well as r12? Not that it matters since I have a stashed away can of r12 waiting in the wings..... Guess I'm just curious. Lol -
Replacement tb from the junkyard would also be an option. Also there are aftermarket ones a available. I would at least give the repair a shot, before spending the coin on those though.

I'll have to get a pic of my jack and lug wrench setup. I think between your setup and mine we are getting close to perfection. I have a scissor jack (I think from a xj) that I chose because it is a hex head drive not the hook like the h1. I can only imagine the h1 jack is much more substantial. I also have a custom made tool for lower the spare winch and a lug wrench with extendable handle and a double sided socket. Between those and typically having my battery impact along there isnt much roadside\parking lot repair I can't handle. And the battery impact isn't necessary, just saves a lot of hand cranking. I'll try to remember a pic in the morning.

The upholstery should all interchange between bucket seats. I have 4 door xj upholstery with MJ seats in my truck. What part were you having trouble fitting? Edit: I almost forgot to say, the base cushions are interchangeable from xj passenger seats. Much better chance of finding a good passenger base, then just swap the upholstery.

Sun Visor Compatibility
watchamakalit replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought they were all pretty universal except for the length. Long ones for no overhead console, short ones with the console. -
I'm here. Just don't have much to say. Lol

Curved bracket xj bucket seats question
watchamakalit replied to Ricky8227's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had a set of curved sliders in an MJ years ago. Personally I didn't care for them. I'm 6' and while they do provide nice leg support I felt like I needed a sunroof for my head to stick up. -
Rockauto MJ magnet
watchamakalit replied to fiatslug87's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Didnt mean I wanted to get rid of them. I have a pretty good ra magnet collection that I am proud of. It shows how good I am at buying junk vehicles.
