Consider using a password management program. The one I use is KeePass but there are a number of solid (possibly better) options out there. Basically, it generates a "vault" of different, highly secure, passwords for every different site you use. To unlock it, you use a single password (that should be in your head and used for nothing else) and a "key" file that also has to be present to open the password "vault". It's not internet connected at all (except to check for updates, which I personally have disabled. I update it manually) and everything is stored as a file on your computer that can be backed up as necessary. For example, my CC password is a 20-character long string of nonsense that's shared with absolutely nothing else connected to me and I have absolutely no idea what it is.

Well, I was happy to post the instructions for fixing the RX-173 publicly right up until I started noticing copies of my radios for sale on Ebay. So unfortunately the door has closed on that. There are some secrets that I must keep to protect my business unfortunately. These days I leave the basic aux techniques up with the caveat that you really should use an older radio for this - they're better, but not perfect. As for your options, here's what I see: - Keep doing what you're doing, and see how it works for you. I have a large enough sample size to say you probably won't like it without further work, but it might be worth it to you to try it for yourself and see what it's like in your truck to your ears. I would suggest listening to a song that has a part that's panned hard left or hard right to figure out which side is which before buttoning it up. - If you want to DIY it "properly" with the same parts I use on my production radios, I make a kit for the tape decks with all the parts you'll need including a fully assembled aux cable with the proper connections and a step by step instruction manual. These are sold to trusted individuals only (established CC members count as trusted individuals, so you're good here). Some soldering/desoldering and quite a bit of disassembly is required for an RX-173. - Send it to me and I'll do it for you. Could also clean the volume knob contacts, change any burned out bulbs and give the whole thing a once over.

If you consider a year and a half of experience, almost a year of active business operations with a number of happy customers on this forum, and more than 30 radios of various models successfully retrofitted with AUX as interested, I guess I can take a shot at this. The colored wires are your audio signals. The bare wires are ground. Most stereo 3.5mm jacks work this way. So you'll have to somehow connect the red/white wires to the radio pins and the bare wires to a metal surface. But that's if your particular cable is wired the way most of them are. Do you know which is left and which is right? How do you plan on connecting the wires to the pins? Also, I can almost guarantee you'll have interference with that RX-173. Not gonna be fun to listen to at all. If it truly is the original from a 1992 Cherokee, it's a 56009001. In that case, you'll be better off. There's a reason I suggest against the 56007214 for a DIY aux in - the bleedthrough and interference problems are truly awful unless otherwise addressed.

I was about a heartbeat away from buying a rust free but worn out '84 a few years ago. I know I couldn't have taken on another project but seeing the values on these climb makes me wish I could've. Will be following this.

Maybe my particular 89's papers (yes Don, it's that one) was in a lucky box.
-
My 89 came up, but it's a very late 89 build. Mid 89 and later is probably as far as this tool goes.
-
No mention of a rear bumper on mine, but does mention the front bumper like everyone else. Took another look at the one for the '91 - it says Memphis, TN zone. I know the truck was sold in Dickson so this tool gives a rough idea of where the truck came from. Neat!
-
Apparently my '91 2WD came with a shift on the fly transfer case, the Italia Package, and an alcantara steering wheel Everything else is correct though. Does anyone know the significance of the spring groups? Apparently my truck has Group VIII front and Group I rear springs. Also I apparently have the VIN memorized. My '89 was actually more highly optioned than the '91 when new, coming with a radio(!) and mini console. Same springs as the '91. Doesn't say the paint color but does mention Atlanta. Maybe that's where it was shipped to?

Yep, those are the ones.

What Minuit knows about stock Jeep radios

Sorry to rain on your hopes and dreams, but I can't and won't be offering Bluetooth pre-installed in a radio. As to why, it's complicated. The truth of the matter is that a $13 dongle you can get on Amazon performs just as well as the Bluetooth installed in my radios. I and a number of customers have had excellent luck with just plugging in a Bluetooth dongle to the aux jack. -

I see the connectors now. They're the "good ones" - it's a direct fit for an 86 or 87 truck, or I make harness adapters to put it in any non-ZJ Jeep up to 1996 or repair a hacked harness. Should have no problem letting go of it especially if it works well (these are generally pretty reliable) Fun fact: I have literally never got my hands on an AMC radio that failed to turn on. Some had other weird stuff going on but they all at least worked. -

That's how you save a station on the AMC radios: push the MEM button and then push one of the number buttons. -
Yeah, I like the new logo too. Reminds me - I have a sticker of that logo that I haven't done anything with. Thanks! Might take some getting used to the pub moving but as far as usability goes it's a definite upgrade. Good job guys.

Nice, good shape too. Does it have the later connectors or the many early ones? -
I was a moderator of the DIY forum at one point. Just checked and the moderator control panel isn't there anymore. But that's how I stickied the DIY project index.

I tried to upload a 2.33 MB, 4160x2130 JPEG and it won't let me, saying the maximum size I can upload is 1.95MB. Windows 7 on Chrome, if it matters.

Easy. That's the power/volume/fade/balance potentiometer out of those AM/FM radios.

Steering Column, Tilt? Push me over the ledge.
Minuit replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It didn't change my life but having a tilt column definitely made it feel more comfortable and natural to drive. I also gained intermittent wipers with the new column. No cons at all, the column I got came from a pretty high mileage XJ and the tilt mechanism seems to have been fixed already before I got it. Other than the tilt mechanism working loose, swapping from a non-tilt to a tilt column seems like a straight upgrade to me. -

Squiggly SporTrucks are the best SporTrucks. -
I've had the Gearwrench 120 tooth flex head set for a couple of years now. They're nothing short of fantastic.

I'm just glad the redundant "Comanches" section is gone.

I'd be willing to bribe you slightly if you threw it in a box and sent it to me... for experimentation purposes.

That's a 2.5. The fan shroud is centrally mounted and much deeper than it is on the 4.0. Also, look how short the engine is. The 4.0 is nearly the entire length of the engine bay. -
I've had a really poorly running engine make the transmission feel bad too. Way back when my 91 plugged its catalytic converter it almost felt like the trans was going too. When I got it back from the exhaust shop the first thing I noticed was how much better the trans shifted now that the engine was making full power again. No idea on the traction control
