Glad to see you bought this one. Great looking truck.
-
Can't say I'm surprised by this recent development.
-
I'm jealous of you guys with your export Jeeps. Every export XJ/MJ I hear of is loaded. Not envious of your fuel prices, but you guys got some rare stuff indeed. The swoosh was just a dealer installed decal. The sportruck did still exist, but it looked like this: 10-4 on the swoosh. You're right about the 91/92 SporTrucks (I own one!) They got rare after 91 but to be fair SporTrucks are and always were just base trucks with stripes.
-
No RHD MJs were made AFAIK. @jeepcomj there are 91/92 sportrucks out there but the "swoosh" Sport seems to have replaced it by 92. The difference is pretty much just cosmetic.
-
You'll have stripes on the sides with "ELIMINATOR" in big letters. From your profile pic, your truck appears to be a Sport - a 92 only package. Eliminators also had a ton of options - 4.0, full gauges, bucket seats, etc.

I for one would like to see more of this truck also!

Smartphones are nice for daily use but if I'm taking pictures to look nice my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2) just doesn't cut it. I'm sure phone cameras have advanced since my phone was released, but still nowhere near the quality of a good digital camera. Most phones are pretty awkward to hold horizontally (which is how I take all of my pictures) and I've dropped it several times trying to take pictures, so you can definitely make an argument for having a real camera even with today's phone technology. I take my "nice" pictures with my Canon Powershot SX50HS: It's got a nice flip-out screen and it's much easier to handle than a phone. I don't have a whole lot of experience with high end digital cameras so I don't know how well it stacks up, but I've had nothing but good experience with it. Beware the cheap aftermarket batteries, though. Any recent, halfway decent digital camera with optical zoom and manual controls will produce good results compared to a smartphone.

Also keep in mind that the MJ has coil springs up front. If it's not sagging in the rear the leafs probably aren't to blame. Replacement front coils are cheap.

I plan on swapping in WJ LCAs at some point so this definitely helped me. Thanks for the info. -
I love this project already. Made almost exactly a year after mine  What sort of lift are you planning?
-
:laughin: I'm fairly strong but I'll definitely get some help. Don't want to destroy anything with my clumsiness  Appreciate the responses.

 Seeing these sometimes makes me almost think twice about my choice of a "modern" sound system.
-
With the way this is going, I expect #2 to come fairly soon
-
Just something that popped into my mind a while ago - how much does a short bed weigh minus the tailgate? How many people could safely lift it off of the chassis?
-
Not Jensen, it was called the Infinity sound option in the XJs, but like you I do not think MJs ever had the Infinity dash tweeter speaker option. Jenson was the maker of the speakers for the Infinity option. With the stock AM/FM/Cassette unit, any replacement 8-ohm speaker (5.25 round for the doors, 6x4 for the rears) is fine. I like using the Sony Xplod speakers for replacement. Decent sound and not too expensive. My door panels (pulled off an 88 XJ Limited) say "Accusound by Jensen" on the bezels although I think that option stopped being available not long after. Never seen an XJ later than 1990 with it. :dunno: I thought the Infinity system was a 97+ thing. Sony speakers are a pretty good upgrade option though, I agree.
-
Just FYI - I don't actually know (and doubt) if MJs ever came with 3-1/2 in the dash from the factory. That was a Jensen sound system thing (an option I don't believe the MJ ever had). They fit though if you're looking to upgrade.

1989 Comanche Lynchburg Va. Help.
Minuit replied to Cmbechtold's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I gotcha. I scanned mine and read it in Photoshop. My ink was pretty well gone but I got much of the important stuff back. Mine is a 91 but your 89 probably isn't that much different since Chrysler owned Jeep then, too. The top row is the only stuff that'll really tell you much. The first row with the yellow header is the VIN broken up into what each letter/number means. On the right is the coolest thing this sheet will tell you, date of production. For instance, mine rolled off the line on April 17, 1991 at 12:55 PM. The second row in the middle has the paint codes. For instance, my color code (PAC) is Silver Star Metallic. You can look those up to see what the names of the color is. The third row has the stock tire size, mine being P195/75/15. Most of the other stuff is a part-by-part listing of factory part numbers and option codes. Not as cool as a full build sheet, but still nice to have. Side note: Your MJ is virtually identical to an 89 I found in the junkyard a couple of months ago. . :MJ 1: . -
Dash: 3-1/2. When I installed mine I had trouble with the top mounting screw hitting the dash so watch out. The only XJs that had speakers here had the upgraded audio system but I don't know what they had there. Doors: 5-1/4 stock. 6x9s will fit apparently. Haven't tried it myself. Rear panels: 4x6 with the stock brackets (you can make pretty much anything fit with some sawing)
