Last update to this post - the ‘91 has a new home. Couldn’t find a trade for an auto MJ. Ran a Facebook ad and the second guy to look at it bought it. Said he’d always wanted a MJ and now he has a good one. I gave him a CC card and suggested he join up but don’t know if he has. Even though I no longer own a MJ, I’ll continue to hang out here to keep up with what’s happening in the MJ world.

Zen and the Art of Chrome Wheels on MJs
Keyav8r replied to Manche757's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It says you are an Olde Pharte with a wide base of accumulated knowledge and experience backed up by excellent recall, my friend. -
Really sorry to hear that news! Could be wrong, but I would tend to agree that it’s probably south of the border.

Any damage? How’s the weather in your area now? -
Congratulations!

I looked at my PMs to check for correspondence with Jim and it appears that all my older PMs have vanished. He and I “talked” some about flying and his health issues. Jim was a pilot and had his plane on his Comanche “ranch”. I believe it was a Piper, possibly an Archer, that he flew off his own dirt strip. IIRC, he sold the plane when he started having health problems, well before he started selling off his MJs. You may remember that Jim was a frequent contributor/commenter on the Forum but dropped out of sight for a pretty long period then came back for a short time. Sorry I can’t offer anything more specific.

As has been expressed better above - Thanks, Pete! Let us all know when the bills come due. OR why don’t we all just send a few bucks Pete’s way to keep the doors open and the electrons moving? PM Pete for his PayPal address if you want to chip in, assuming no objection from him.

Update - got the full leg brace and the d@#n crutches. Doc says 2 weeks then he’ll x-ray the knee again and tell me what’s next. Hopefully it will be to get rid of the crutches. I can live with the brace but after one day on the crutches I can feel my spine mis-aligning and my right bicep Is not at all happy. Oh well, such is life. Could have been surgery and I’m truly thankful I dodged that bullet. Onward to the next “golden years adventure”!

Remember, we don't bounce like our grandchildren do, anymore. You got that 100% right!

If those are the alleged $350/side taillights in your photo, that guy either got thoroughly screwed or misrepresented their provenance. I have a pair I polished and clear-coated that look much better as have others on the Forums. Admittedly, the backup light portion doesn’t as look as clear as new, but still pretty good.

Update - got past the shoulder/bicep therapy, put a new battery in the MJ and took it out for a good drive. Everything worked as before and shifting effort not that bad but not back to where I was yet. About two weeks back I stopped for lunch while in Florence, AL. Got out of the Ram, walked 10–15 feet, tripped over something and landed HARD on my right knee. When I say hard, I mean saying unkind things about the parents of the guy who paved the parking lot hard, while trying to straighten out my leg and get back up. Took a while to do so. I tried to walk it off for a week or so and finally gave up and, being urged to do so, went to the ortho Doctor. After x-rays, he says I have a cracked kneecap and sends me for a MRI to determine if it would be surgery to repair soft tissue (the crack will heal on its own) or a brace to keep my leg straight while the soft tissue heals itself. Tells me to walk straight-legged until we get the MRI results. (Wife said “I told you to go to the doctor when it happened”. I really hate it when she’s right.) Doctor’s office calls Friday morning, says good news - no knife work required, but come in for a brace and maybe crutches. When I call back I get the answering service because they take Friday afternoons off. So, I go in tomorrow for a knee brace to wear for several weeks and maybe crutches (really don’t want crutches). The really bad parts about this are (a) I could have avoided the injury if I had been paying more attention to my surroundings p, and (b) I can’t drive the MJ for several more weeks. Fellow Olde Phartes - be careful! We become more fragile as we get older.

Sounds like management may have made the right decision in closing down before the employees got screwed over. That rarely happens. They usually cash everything out and leave the folks doing the work holding the dirty end of the stick. Enjoy Maui (we did) and good luck on the job hunt when you get ready to look.

“I would go that route over GPS. It really doesn't take all that much to screw up the GPS signal. I hit satellite dead spots pretty frequently. Plus you don't need to pack your tin-foil hat.” You mean to say that you don’t always wear your tinfoil hat? What with your relative closeness to the magnetic pole, those Northern lights (everyone knows those are a cover the aliens use to hide their saucers) and the thinner atmosphere (you know - because you’re so much higher up there according to my globe), I assumed a tinfoil hat would be mandatory for radiation protection.

Truly fine work there. I don’t think I have the patience to be that precise. One of the reasons I decided not to build an experimental airplane.

Every time I see a photo of your engine compartment I have an overwhelming urge to strip out my engine and detail everything. But if I sit in my lounger and have a G&T, the urge passes. The miracle of internal application of “medicine” for adjustment of unrealistic expectations.

I find that gin has a similar therapeutic effect.

Eagle - I have a much milder version of your caffeine induced heart problem. If I have a little too much caffeine my heartbeat goes irregular. Like thump, thump, thump..............................thump, thump......thump............thump, thump......thump, etc. Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened at night. I laid there listening to it and finally decided if I die, I die - gotta get some sleep. I used to drink a lot of coffee at work because we have a commercial coffeemaker that’s always full. Doctor said no more caffeine. Now I have less than a cup in the morning at home, then decaf at work. Seems to be working so far as I don’t notice any irregularity. Been off colas and tea for a long time, but just can’t quit chocolate. I suppose the ticker will tell me when I need to quit that.

The reason these stores have a high turnover rate is that they promote anyone who can recognize a spark plug to manager (the “alternators don’t charge batteries” guy being an exception). Then they work the crap out them doing opening and closing and all the shifts not otherwise staffed. Friend of mine, who is a car guy, took a part time job at AA after retirement. Was there a month or so and they asked him to be an assistant manager with a decent raise. Then came the extra hours, weekends, holidays, etc. He quit. Others may not have that option.

If Don says he’s done - he’s done. We Olde Pharts hold ourselves accountable.

Still not smoking after about 40 years. Started when 15 years old, quit (for the final time) at 33 years old. 1 to 2 packs per day.

His intergalactic communicator antenna is hidden above his headliner. He uses a converted 1986 MJ radio to talk to the aliens.

Unless you are anal about keeping the holder level. 😂🤣🤪

Close, but that only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

It goes to the chrome plater first, right?

I slipped a spacer shim under the bottom hinge on the DS door to correct sag. Could not get the hinge pins to move. Pulled one of the original shims to use as a pattern. Between that and the GC weatherstrip wind and road noise are greatly reduced.
