  1. NAPA, Advance Auto, Rock Auto, etc. Wide price (and quality) range to work with.
  2. I could be wrong (happened once before), but every hydraulic lifter fitted engine I've worked on had to be adjusted while running. Mostly Chevy V-8s, so maybe the MJ is different. Haven't checked the FSM, so I'll defer to Eagle.
  3. If your truck has hydraulic lifters you have to adjust the valves with the engine running. The lifters have to be "pumped up" by the engine oil pressure. On older engines it is common for the lifters to leak down (collapse) when the engine is turned off. With the lifters leaked down, once you go past no movement on the push rod and tighten more you are bending or crushing the push rods. Take your valve cover back off, loosen the rockers, start the engine and adjust the valves again. Wouldn't hurt to pull and inspect the push rods to see if any are bent.
  4. I think I'm with Coffman on this. Send a picture of the GF and we can better advise you of the correct course of action. Also, send pictures of your MJ so we can tell if your money could be better invested in the truck. Trust me on this one - I've been with my woman over 50 years. When the right one comes along you'll know it and you won't give a fat rat's a$$ what anyone else thinks.
  5. Just go ahead and beat the crap out of him. That will effectively solve the problem by putting everyone in the GF's family on his side. The up side is that you may develop a new relationship while you're in the jail/prison - whether you want one or not.
  6. Check the Birmingham Barons schedule. Minor league team in a new stadium. Check out restaurants at the Summit shopping center at the intersection of I-459 and Hwy 280 - Fleming's steak house (big bucks), Cheesecake Factory (good food, great desserts if you like cheesecake), P. F. Changs (great Chinese, medium to big bucks). Also several Jim and Nick's BBQ around town. Stay out of downtown area after normal business hours, very little there and not the safest place.
  7. Advance should have a cable in stock you can use. Pull your old one off and match up the length. May have to get one a little longer, which would give you more flexibility in how you route it between the battery and starter (keeping it away from sharp edges).
  8. I've rarely used it and seldom look at it, so it doesn't matter to me whether it stays or goes.
  9. Costco has the same policy as Discount Tire. If you buy two new tires, they will only put them on the rear. I was looking for two for my bride's Mazda 6 - a front wheel drive vehicle. I didn't buy them from Costco. Regardless of where these automotive geniuses obtained their enlightenment, I'll always put the best tires up front exactly for the reasons Eagle stated. The fronts do all the steering and the majority of the braking. If you have a problem with the rear coming around on you, either get better tires or lighten up on go pedal.
  10. Under the hood, passenger side inner fender, just behind the battery, above the ignition module. Search "relays" in the "random informative pictures thread" in the DIY forum section for a photo.
  11. Easily spotted as photoshop - the rear tires look like they're offset but touching.
  12. Would like to help, but I'm farther East than Shreveport. I'm sure there's good ole Texan MJ owners who will step up. You might want to start a new thread titled something like "Help needed in Bryan, TX!" Might get the word out better.

I'd go with the 90. 160K vs 400k. Some rust vs rusted out floors.

    Swb Bedliner

Sorry it's taken so long to contact you. Work's been a real bear with a big project trying to go sideways on me. Do you have any photos of the liner and does it have the tailgate piece? And, of course, price? I'm definitely interested but not sure when I'll be able to make a trip over your way.
  16. How about someone dumb enough to change the oil pan gasket and forget to put the plug in the pan before pouring the oil. Then after installing the plug starting the engine with the filter just a light hand tight. Looked like a fire sprinkler head except brown. Won't mention any names but just saying it had been a long day and up into the night. What's the best way to get oil stains out of un sealed concrete floors?

    decent bed

Unfortunately, my bed has led an indecent life, consorting with Tacomas, S-10s and the like, so she could hardly be considered decent. Oh, wait, i understand. You meant in decent physical condition rather than morals. She's perfectly decent in that manner, so will be staying home, except when out with "friends". The shame is almost unbearable. Sorry for this outbreak, I'm on meds tonight.
  18. "I managed to get to the side of the road and park. I suspected maybe no gas! I walked to a gas station and got a 2-gallon tank, filled it up and started up. It was fine then! No bogging down or stalling. I continued my drive home without issue." Your fuel level may have been just deep enough to cover the pick-up. When you moved the truck the fuel may have sloshed toward the back of the tank, starving the pump. I'd say you ran out of gas but it wouldn't hurt to change your fuel filter if you haven't changed lately.
  19. OK, that's pretty cool. Still not sure about those new-fangled cell phones. Probably like pet rocks, just another passing fad.
  20. A thread in MJ Tech on fuel economy/mileage started me thinking about the methods auto manufacturers are using to try to meet government fuel mileage mandates. One of the methods I've read about is automatically stopping and re-starting the engine at traffic lights (and under some other conditions). I haven't seen any information on how the engine computer decides under what circumstances to stop the engine. I'm assuming the trigger mechanism may be that the vehicle has come to a complete halt and the brake is still applied. Maybe there's some time delay built in to prevent unnecessary engine stops? The trigger for re-start could be release of the brake followed by pressure on the accelerator. I understand that things like lights, radio and blower keep operating during the stop. Have to wonder what that would do to battery life if all you did was city driving. Has anyone driven a car with this feature? What was your impression of how useful/practical it might be? I think it would just be an annoyance to me. But then, I am an Olde Phart and I'm still not convinced that those cell phones aren't just another fad.
  21. large bucket of
  22. Same here. Signed up, no notices. Went to the yard looking for XJ front inner fender liners. Checked the computer for MJs and one pops up. Had been there 3 or 4 weeks and was pretty well stripped. Gonna have to have a chat with Manuel, guy who runs the place, about his e-mail notice system.
  23. Could a Cherokee taillight harness be grafted in? Or, would you have to rewire all the way to the front of the truck?
  24. There is a clamp on the engine side of the firewall that holds the speedometer cable in place. Just follow the cable down the firewall until you find it. Take the clamp off, disconnect the cable at the transmission, and get someone to push the cable through the firewall as you pull the cluster out of the dash. Once you have it out far enough you will be able to see how to disconnect the plastic clip.
  25. I think I like it! Have you tried to split out the wiring to separate the turn/hazards and the brake lights?
