  1. I love this time of year. No... not for the weather, or the cold, or any of that other cliche winter wonderland business. I love this time of year because it gives me an excuse to make up silly little things that are more time consuming than constructive. Yup... presents. I'd even be so bold to say that people love receiving them from me mostly because they know that chances are they're getting something that wasn't just purchased from some store. They know that I put countless hours into things things all for that one moment that they'll open a pretty box and smile. This year is no different. Made up a few things to give away. The first being a fire ring that was put on a silent auction. The school I work at puts together a team for the Relay For Life during the summer, but also do the suction to boost the donations. Otherwise, all the rest of this stuff has already been boxed up and are waiting to be opened over the next couple days. Should be fun! Can't wait for the reactions. Fire pit: Stainless dockside umbrella base: Stainless wine stoppers: Coat hanger: Stainless cardinal ornament: There was a receiver hitch extension too... forgot to take a picture. Anybody else fab'in' up some gifts?
  2. b*@$£ of a disease, eh? I like WJs. All of them that I've driven have always just had a smooth ride and an overall solid feel. They're kind of a conversion for Jeep that they have more of a "modern" feel, but still retains much of a similar drivetrain as our MJs... easy to work on. I'd definitely consider one to replace my ZJ if the wifey was on board.

    I Did It...

You know, Jim... I was just thinking the other day that we you haven't had any "hurt myself" threads in a while. Nice to see you dodged the bullet!... but tomorrow's another day, right? :D
  4. I like this game... I'm going to say it's a '90. Still a RENIX, but it doesn't have the c101 connection on the firewall. :crossfingers:
  5. Cool wheels!
  6. I gotta say I was excited to see you start poking around here again! Glad to see you back. Good luck with your search and I look forward to seeing what comes next from you!
  7. Thanks, dude. I'll be honest that this build is slow though. It's been used more as a jig to build stuff and storage than anything else... which is a bummer. I had hopes of starting some bodywork on it this winter, but I'm really just burned out on working on things lately. I think it'd be best just to let it wait until warmer weather. Thanks for the comment on my bumpers too! I like it when I have the opportunity to build stuff. Even better when I can build stuff for others... keeps me from having a huge pile of stuff that I'd build anyhow. :shake:
  8. Looks just like mine! Jim, you seem like a crafty kind of dude... to say the least :D ... Check around at local beverage distributors. I picked up a couple of these tanks a number of years ago that came out of carbonated beverage dispensers. Still had to get them checked before my local welder's supply would fill them, but the tanks were free anyhow.
  9. The problem of using any ol' tank is the pressure that it can hold. A portable air tank, or a propane tank for that matter, really aren't designed for about 200 pounds, max. A CO2 tank will hold 2200+. That's the beauty of them! They last and last but one has to use a proper regulator otherwise you'll destroy anything you plug into them.
  10. Nope. Their trucks all had 35s. I'm definitely watching this one!

    Later Guys...

I don't think I'm okay with this. :( Long time members just leaving like this is a huge bummer. I for one am not going to say goodbye. Rather that I hope you at least stay a lurker and chime in again when you feel the time is right.
  12. I like to call it a "Comanche exchange program".
  13. I hear ya, Pete. There' been a few MJs I've sold over the years that I told myself immediately after it left the driveway, "Hmm... shouldn't have done that..." Even now, I've got MJs around that I honestly don't think I need but I know that I'd have a tough time finding another like it. Sounds hoarderish but it's the truth. I'd even go as far as saying that I sometimes wish I didn't find them! Ah, well... can't save or keep them all... unless you're Jim, anyhow.
  14. The coils were a custom spun mixture that the Archers had made up. Not sure where they came from but the spring rate is pretty heavy. As far as the spoiler... I never said that a mold doesn't exist. John has it up in Duluth yet. Problem is that his fiberglass guy doesn't want to do it anymore. He's offered to sell the mold to me a few times but I just don't see the profit from it for what he wants for it. It'd be nice for the occasional person who comes up and wants one, but I haven't had any good luck in the past with people who say they want something then don't pony up when the opportunity actually arises. That's not to say that I'm not interested though! Been doing some looking into fiberglass work off and on over the past year or so. I work part time at the airport in town here doing bodywork and making parts. We do some fiberglass work there... been paying attention and taking notes!
  15. I have not. I've been too involved with other things... usually just my house that I'm getting tired of dealing with. This poor truck hasn't even left my property for a couple years now! Really wanting to get back to it though. Not a whole lot left on it but bodywork, paint, and final assembly. Not sure how far you'll get with the Archers. It took me about a year before they'd open up and even let me know what they still had in storage. I actually talked to John Archer a couple weeks ago and he mentioned that his phone has been ringing off the hook what with Tommy's truck recently on Ebay. I'll be honest... he really doesn't seem to like getting rid of anything. As for a front spoiler, you won't find another unless you take it off of the truck in the Chrysler Archives, Bobby's truck that was in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, or Tommy's truck out in PA. Well... there's mine, but that's not going anywhere!
  16. BJ, not sure if you're thinking about this idea or not, but the way that yours is welded together won't allow you to hold air in it. It isn't totally sealed up in an attempt to let it breathe. Just like our trucks that rust from the inside out, I've repaired too many structures that destroy themselves from within. Even condensation builds up over time. Your bumper was coated with as much weld through primer as I could spray in there before all the pieces were welded together. (I bet you didn't know that... surprise!!!) Were it would leak is at the tow points were the 1/4" mount and the 3/8" reinforcement are welded together as the inside of the hole is still open. Bliet clamped very, very tight together but still open. Besides that, I was asked a couple years ago about the capacity of this bumper... it really isn't all that much. Sorry to burst any potential bubbles, but your petite little bumper is best used as just a bumper.
  17. What do you think of when December comes around? Me?... I think of a season that really makes me feel like I belong to something, sharing time with family and friends, and most importantly a season of giving. This month, I wanted to put someone special in the spotlight. Someone that always seems to have the answer. Someone who might not say much, but you better be listening when he does. Someone that shows the giving spirit all year round… in the form of priceless Jeep knowledge. This month?... Cruiser54's '90 Pioneer!!! MODEL AND YEAR: 1990 Pioneer Longbed 4WD ENGINE & PERFORMANCE: Renix 4.0, 60mm throttle body, high altitude CPS, MAP sensor mod, relocated IAT, exhaust down tube crush removed, Flowmaster muffler, 4 hole injectors DRIVETRAIN: AW4, NP231, Dana 44 posi rear COOLING: Standard Renix cooling system with Volvo cap ELECTRICAL & IGNITION: Upgraded grounds, Napa Premium cap/rotor/wires and NGK plugs STEERING: Standard steering SUSPENSION: Stock suspension with gas shocks and poly swaybar bushings and end links INTERIOR: Bucket seats, carpet, lighted vanity mirrors, sheepskin seat covers BRAKES: Performance Friction front pads, stock rear shoes LIGHTING: Autopal E-code headlights with 90/100 bulbs, upgraded headlamp harness, #795 halogen reverse light bulbs WHEELS/TIRES: Wrangler wheels with 235/75/15 Kumho KL78 tires MISCELLANEOUS: This is my 15th Comanche. I had 13 of them as demos when I was Service Manager at a Jeep dealer and this is the second one I've owned. First demo was the 4 cylinder 4 speed model painted in the Renault racing colors. The only 2WD MJ I had was my 86 4 cylinder which I traded off to get this 90. I need 4WD where I live. I've done all the applicable Renix Tips to this MJ. It's kinda like the old guy's truck but I like it that way. A bit of a sleeper. A 4.6 stroker is waiting to go in when time permits. Best MJ story: My best MJ story is about an MJ that Hornbrod is familiar with. The head of Jeep Racing lived in my town at this time and he did project vehicles for Jeep also. Along with Hesco, they built a shortbed 2WD Mj with a supercharged 4.6 stroker using Electramotive programmable fuel injection. It carried little payload so many times he would ask if I could trade him my demo MJ for the little rocket for the weekend when he needed to haul stuff. I know that guy in the restored GTO is still wondering what that little yellow truck had under the hood!! What owner loves best about CC: I'm glad that Comanche Club has such a group of dedicated owners of our beloved MJs and are interested in preserving them. ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●● Pete, you have to be one of the most helpful members here what with your tips and tricks for the RENIX crowd, and your honest and to the point responses. While you won’t find a build thread here, I think you add something here that just can’t be duplicated easily. That special thing you have is experience. I can honestly say that more than a few of my past MJs are still functioning because of something you’ve said. I’m very happy to be the first to say thank you and congratulations on being our December Comanche of the Month! -Ben This post has been promoted to an article
  18. I actually had plans of doing the same thing this coming spring during some much needed landscaping. Very cool!
  19. Sorry... I keep all of my "extra curricular" projects away from the school. I haven't even priced out what it would be to put one together yet. Like most things I do, the first one was thrown together with scraps I had sitting around. That, and I need to take mine apart to get some better measurements. That, and I'd like to put together a good jig.  Ok. I'm just jerkin your chain buddy. But, I think I was first in line. :laughin: Noted. :D
