First drive into work with this truck! It goes down the road fine and straight. Everything went great! No mirrors... no speedometer... but otherwise great! Stopped at the gas station too for its first fill up with the new pump configuration. No leaks. Fuel gauge works just as it should. Very happy with my setup!

No gonna lie... I miss the Moabs. Nice to see you haven't forgotten about this truck, though!

Took the truck for a drive today and the speedometer still doesn't work... even after smacking around on things underneath. I came back and tested for codes and I did get a "15" this time. That sensor looks like a real bugger to get to! :(

Well, this truck has just turned into a test mule of sorts. I get really excited when I feel as though I've solved a problem. I get even more worked up when I think I'm solving a few problems all with one solution! Over the years of working on these trucks I've ran into HO swaps that turn into fuel gauge issues, leaky fuel sending units, and the lack of good MJ sending units available in salvage yards... every try and make an XJ sender work? Several of us have. Nope, it's not just a drop in kind of fix. What if there was a way that one could use XJ internals to keep their MJ running efficiently and leak free? This sure feels like a sales pitch... this just might be. Let's take a look at just the problem of an external leak at the sending unit. From the factory, the lines are soldered in place with some spot welds on the internal bracing to keep everything together. Over time, rust takes its toll, things vibrate loose, and now you have a leak. What the factory didn't do was make things serviceable. What if the factory had made a sending unit chassis that had fittings instead of solder? Well, the factory didn't and now I have a leaking sending unit again. So I wanted to try with something I've been thinking about for a while. This: It's all stainless and I think it's beautiful. The whole thing works off of that little tab on the sending unit that doesn't seem to have any purpose. It like the factory was just asking for it to be reworked! I bought the '91 with a leaking sender. A couple years ago, I blasted the whole thing and soldered the fittings back together. Must've been from swapping things around that the leak came back. The pump had to come back out. Looking at it, I forgot about a ground. This obviously had to be added. From there, I did what might be considered a cardinal sin in the world of Comanches, but I figured that the unit was leaky anyhow. ... but I had plans to make it better! I'll let the pictures explain: Does it work? Yup! But what about those other issues? You know... HO swaps with XJs, fuel gauge reading backwards, or just the fact that you can't exactly just go to your local auto parts dealer and order one up. To tease us, aftermarket XJ senders can be had... it's just not fair! What does this have to do with my sender chassis? Since it ties off of the mystery tab, that same tab can be found on XJ senders. Wait, what? Does that mean that I could take an XJ sender and just use the internals? You bet I could! I could use my chassis to repair Renix or HO MJ senders or mix and match to use XJ parts being that they're so readily available! Needless to say, I'm pretty stocked about this. I just got it all put back together today so I want to run this for a while to see if there's any unforeseen issues. Might even put together a few if anyone else shares the same problems I've ran into. In the mean time, happy fall!

Looks like the arm connected to the hand lever is extended, that's the part I'd need more info on. You could use all-thread... I was just using what I had on hand. The lever from the shifter was extended down so the linkage was more in line to the transfer case. Also, I cut and tweaked the angle of the little arm on the t-case. Easy, easy.

What I did was get rid of all the extra crap that has no business being in there. I've done a couple linkages like this now and they work great! There was a write up on here a while ago that I pulled inspiration from... of course I can't find it right now though.

^This. 7075 is very commonly known as "memory aluminum". It'll bend and flex (to a point) and return back to where it started (to a point). Guys run 7075 control arms because they bounce and bend on rocks and come back to straight as steel and 'moly will just bend. Looks great too!

Straight from the truck: Mine just has the plate in place of the top two bolts. I would assume that it's factory as it was originally a 4 cylinder. As for if it should be there for the bottom as well... who knows? The truck has a bit of a checkered past. :huh???:

Looking on the inside, it'll look just like two bolts and two nuts. On the outside is where it'll look different.
