  1. Looks like the arm connected to the hand lever is extended, that's the part I'd need more info on. You could use all-thread... I was just using what I had on hand. The lever from the shifter was extended down so the linkage was more in line to the transfer case. Also, I cut and tweaked the angle of the little arm on the t-case. Easy, easy.
  2. What I did was get rid of all the extra crap that has no business being in there. I've done a couple linkages like this now and they work great! There was a write up on here a while ago that I pulled inspiration from... of course I can't find it right now though.
  3. I went down as well: http://comancheclub.com/topic/31523-the-introduction-of-archer/
  4. ^This. 7075 is very commonly known as "memory aluminum". It'll bend and flex (to a point) and return back to where it started (to a point). Guys run 7075 control arms because they bounce and bend on rocks and come back to straight as steel and 'moly will just bend. Looks great too!
  5. Straight from the truck: Mine just has the plate in place of the top two bolts. I would assume that it's factory as it was originally a 4 cylinder. As for if it should be there for the bottom as well... who knows? The truck has a bit of a checkered past. :huh???:
  6. Looking on the inside, it'll look just like two bolts and two nuts. On the outside is where it'll look different.
  7. Welcome!
  8. I just dealt with that same part a couple weeks ago. It's used to replace the top two bolts on the track bar and the threads point that the flat bar is on the wheel well side. Only one is used and the bottom two bolts on the bracket are just plain ol' hardware. I could snap a picture if you like... not right now, though. Still at work avoiding my students and cruising CC instead.
  9. Hmm... can I hit that too?
  10. Wait... what? Not at all what I have in the transfer case. :hmm:
  11. Hmm... no dice on the engine codes. I got a 12 and 55. Nothing from smacking the sensor around either. What's next on the list to try? Can I hit anything else?
  12. Come on up and visit sometime! Open door policy to any CC member.
  13. I'll give that a try. My kind of maintenance... the percussive kind!
  14. I have not. On the docket for tomorrow. Wouldn't that turn on the "check engine" light if ti was bad?
  15. Anyone know if there's a way to test the sensor?
  16. ... and it's something else again. Backed it out of the garage and the apron was wet from the rain and snow today. Noticed some rainbow spots all the way down that weren't there before the truck went over it. Started the truck again and just sat and watched... fuel sender... again. When I first got the '91, one of the first things I did was rebuild the fuel sender because it was leaking around the return line fitting. Looks like it got bumped and a little scratched up with the whole change over. Looks like I get to fix it again. :wall: I'm thinking about trying something a little different on that. More on that later. As for the rest of the truck, I'm pretty happy with it. Obviously, I'd like to have finished a bunch more things before the weather turned sour, but it is what it is. What I need to get done sooner than later is throw some mirrors on it, a windshield (I cleaned all the over spray off in the mean time), and now deal with the fuel sender. As for now, it's back outside to ween it off from the cozy garage stall.
  17. Took it down the road today... and drove it back too! Everything seems to work fine minus the speedometer. Always something... this thing just wants to fight all the way to the end it seems. :fs2:
  18. My speedometer doesn't work in my '91. Everything was working before I started swapping everything over to the new chassis and everything worked when I moved it all over in late June. I made sure that the speedo gear is aligned correctly and... from my high beams thread... made sure that everything was plugged in that I can see. From what I remember, the only electrical connections are starting at the gear housing, then another at the firewall by the blower motor, then the last behind the cluster. The truck just has dummy lights and the giant fuel gauge, and the rest of them all work. I tried taking out the gear housing and spinning with a drill without any luck as well. Any other ideas? Thanks guys.
  19. Yeah! "Tractor-like". :D
  20. Really pushing to get this done enough to drive this winter. Yesterday and this morning were a couple more days that things were accomplished, but mostly was just a fight the whole way. For whatever reason, this little truck has been putting up a fuss the past week of working on it. Probably due to the fact of putting things off and finding other things that need to be worked on instead of finishing this thing weeks ago. So it goes... Here's a recap of where I'm at: Swap coils Bleed the brakes... again Figure out why I have no high beams Finish the harness to the taillights Align the brake light switch as the rear stay on unless you pull up on the pedal Top off the tranny Minor metal work on the bed Paint the bed... which may or may not happen before it gets too cold to paint Bedliner... really? Who am I kidding... that's not happening this year Fix the hole in the dash to the light switch can mount in properly Misc. interior finishing/cleaning Build a rear bumper Hang an exhaust Install shocks when they come in Throw some cheapo mirrors on the doors Get a new windshield I wanted something more relaxing in terms of ease of working on today so I decided to tackle the one thing left that I had total control over how well it goes... a bumper. I think it's no secret around here that I love building just about anything with a torch and a welder. Metal work is very relaxing to me because it's more like an art project as opposed to mechanics. I started with taking a set of my typical bumper brackets off the shelf and just went from there. Obligatory close up of a weld: Went with the same graphite color again. Not totally sure I'm 100% crazy about it. If I were to do it again, I think I would've staggered the tubes so they weren't one on top of the other. Then there's the whole "if I were to do it again". Maybe next time. On a side note, I was moving the truck into the garage and Robyn was standing in the doorway. She made mention of how the exhaust sounds a little weird. I agreed... I think it sounds almost agricultural. Neat!
  21. Already have. Seems you like wiring! I don't have the patience. But I know a guy.. :shake:
  22. Yeah... too bad I know what you paid for it!
  23. Gorgeous! Hopefully another truck of yours that I'll someday own. :D
