Nothing meant behind it. I've kept my finger on the pulse pretty tight on this truck over the past couple months is all.

Before buying used, I would highly recommend taking a close look at the Thermal Arc/Tweco small inverter line (181i, 211i, 252i). I've used each one in the line and each one has its highs and very few lows. The whole product line is based off of multi-process welding. Each one is capable of MIG, stick, and TIG... even though the TIG function isn't all that great in any of them. In the Tweco selection, they just released a smaller yet 141i that I have on order. It's strickly a 110v machine, but I think they're just handy as all get out when it comes to versatility. They're all compact, but they all are very smooth running and offer a bunch of options that most other "happy homeowner" style machines don't even come close to. Best part? Way cheaper than Miller or Lincoln.

Yeah rumor has it he's pretty firm on the 15k lol Rumor has it? You been in contact with Dean also or is there something about this truck that I don't know about?

'91 Speedometer Issue... Does Not Read
neohic replied to neohic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:hmm: Continuity checks out. I'm now looking for a way to check the sensor on the trans and found this picture: ... but no other information to back it up. Any idea how to check this and what a reading should be? I checked the sensor of the t-case also and did get a reading from it. -
The youth of today, right? I’m around them everyday with the profession that I’m in. Some people say that the younger crowd doesn’t contribute anything good to society. Some people say that all of them think that “manual labor” is the president of Mexico. Some have even made comment that they don’t even know how to talk correctly anymore what with their cellular devices and their Face-Tube… thingy. I think it’s great to see someone who doesn’t have a torch passed to them, but rather pick it up on their own and run with it! We’ve got some younger members here. Someone like him is sure nice to remind everyone that this hobby is alive and thriving! Minuit's '91 SporTruck!!! Best MJ story: April 29, 2012, the day it drove under its own power for the first time since 2003. Seeing this truck that had spent so long sitting unused and unloved move again on its own was a truly magical moment. Remembering that moment makes everything I do worth every second. Every single time I take it out for a drive is a great MJ story. I've never met a person that didn't like it and the simple fact of owning such a unique vehicle is a great experience. What owner loves best about CC: The fact that so many people from so many different places have joined together to provide such a great community with a friendly atmosphere. CC gives us owners of these rare, little known vehicles a home. CC has been great to me and I don't see that coming to an end. http://comancheclub.com/topic/38742-driveway-ornament-to-daily-driver-1991-sportruck/?do=findComment&comment=390081 ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●● Jeremy, among other MJs that are way over the top and built to the nines it’s very refreshing to see such a simple and well preserved truck like yours. Way above that, I think it’s great to see an up and coming Comanche owner take a tired truck and totally knock it out of the park on cleanliness! Way to go, dude! -Ben This post has been promoted to an article

First drive into work with this truck! It goes down the road fine and straight. Everything went great! No mirrors... no speedometer... but otherwise great! Stopped at the gas station too for its first fill up with the new pump configuration. No leaks. Fuel gauge works just as it should. Very happy with my setup!

No gonna lie... I miss the Moabs. Nice to see you haven't forgotten about this truck, though!

Anyone have any tips on an easy way to replace the sensor? Crawled under it today and just looked at it for a while... decided I'd work on something else. :ack: -

Time to put this guy away for winter already. I had a blast with all the opportunities to drive it this year, though! Backed everything out and cleaned up the garage some. All tucked in... -
Nice one, Jim! Real sharp machine you've got there!

'91 Speedometer Issue... Does Not Read
neohic replied to neohic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Took the truck for a drive today and the speedometer still doesn't work... even after smacking around on things underneath. I came back and tested for codes and I did get a "15" this time. That sensor looks like a real bugger to get to! :( -
Well, this truck has just turned into a test mule of sorts. I get really excited when I feel as though I've solved a problem. I get even more worked up when I think I'm solving a few problems all with one solution! Over the years of working on these trucks I've ran into HO swaps that turn into fuel gauge issues, leaky fuel sending units, and the lack of good MJ sending units available in salvage yards... every try and make an XJ sender work? Several of us have. Nope, it's not just a drop in kind of fix. What if there was a way that one could use XJ internals to keep their MJ running efficiently and leak free? This sure feels like a sales pitch... this just might be. Let's take a look at just the problem of an external leak at the sending unit. From the factory, the lines are soldered in place with some spot welds on the internal bracing to keep everything together. Over time, rust takes its toll, things vibrate loose, and now you have a leak. What the factory didn't do was make things serviceable. What if the factory had made a sending unit chassis that had fittings instead of solder? Well, the factory didn't and now I have a leaking sending unit again. So I wanted to try with something I've been thinking about for a while. This: It's all stainless and I think it's beautiful. The whole thing works off of that little tab on the sending unit that doesn't seem to have any purpose. It like the factory was just asking for it to be reworked! I bought the '91 with a leaking sender. A couple years ago, I blasted the whole thing and soldered the fittings back together. Must've been from swapping things around that the leak came back. The pump had to come back out. Looking at it, I forgot about a ground. This obviously had to be added. From there, I did what might be considered a cardinal sin in the world of Comanches, but I figured that the unit was leaky anyhow. ... but I had plans to make it better! I'll let the pictures explain: Does it work? Yup! But what about those other issues? You know... HO swaps with XJs, fuel gauge reading backwards, or just the fact that you can't exactly just go to your local auto parts dealer and order one up. To tease us, aftermarket XJ senders can be had... it's just not fair! What does this have to do with my sender chassis? Since it ties off of the mystery tab, that same tab can be found on XJ senders. Wait, what? Does that mean that I could take an XJ sender and just use the internals? You bet I could! I could use my chassis to repair Renix or HO MJ senders or mix and match to use XJ parts being that they're so readily available! Needless to say, I'm pretty stocked about this. I just got it all put back together today so I want to run this for a while to see if there's any unforeseen issues. Might even put together a few if anyone else shares the same problems I've ran into. In the mean time, happy fall!
