  1. They have a good gun shop too. :) One of our jewels here.
  2. You were in Knoxville? Yeah, one 86 IIRC. If you don't get there 1 or 2 days after it's been put out you won't get much.............like a bunch of vultures round here. PnP is an hour away and as it is I drive better than 3 hours a day so it's not like I'm going to just swing by.....in the early years I was out there a lot, today, not so much.
  3. Tbolt clamps are the best by far..........finding the size you need is another story. I prefer the spring clamps and I've asked parts stores about availability...........none............maybe a dealer item or scour the JY. I agree, standard parts store clamps are garbage......that said- I got a couple of Earl's ends for braided SS hoses, the worm/screw clamps are top notch, real nice like they used to be. So, somewhere somebody still makes good ones.
  4. My biological father died to me a dozen times over the years, he's breathing but still dead. I was raised by an abusive (and I mean abusive) alcoholic step father and I became an alcoholic myself. I always felt that I had missed out on something, lacking, awkward, guilty, deserving of punishment, good for nothing, worthless. (long past that now) I've raised three kids of my own, wife and I have six between us, ages 37 to 13, one left still at home, our son. We have good relationships with all of them. I've never raised a hand to my kids, never yelled at them, never called them names, not even in my darkest of days. I never wanted to become my father(s). It wasn't until later in life that I realized that it is not the son who is blessed by the father but the father who is blessed by the son. By kids are a blessing to me. To those of you who have- Happy Fathers Day!

  6. Yes, I do plan on out-driving your headlights. Just for fun-
  7. I don't, though that's what is perceived. Wife and I were having a discussion over dinner about cleverness. I went to town earlier to go to the store, lines of hot rods and trucks out today, cars shows and cruise-ins, a lot of people out playing today and I was envious for just the moment- I wanna play too. But as I sat at a light watching these cars pass through it occurred to me......my vanity plate! I got it! I've had several in mind, better than a week ago I picked up my application for the plate and I planned on sending it in in another week, glad I waited. The irony- After dinner I sit down to go through my emails. I've known for some time that Suntrust had merged with BB&T, today Suntrust sends out the email notifying us of the new name.....ready?...........Truist. Truist- altruism- benevolence. What comes to mind is Utopianism, the mindset of the do-gooders, the social justice types. This merger has now made Truist the largest bank in the world. Now, I won't go into what I think about corporate XXXXXXX XXXXXXXs or the psychology of the name or how today's non-thinkers think........but........... The name does not even sound like the name of a bank. I may not be the brightest bulb in the box and I know that according to some I'm just a lowly white trash worker, however- Given a cup of coffee and about twenty minutes I can certainly come of with something more clever than Truist. And I won't even charge $250M a year for the effort. Truist, it's not clever, it's inept.
  8. Just common grade 8 studs.........found at any NAPA.
  9. I'll echo your sentiment.
  10. I am one who needs to concentrate on one thing at a time. I also can not stand the accumulation of junk/stuff. If you need it for parts......great. If you need a project........great. If you can flip it for a buck......even better. If none of the above.............you're just going to piss off the Boss.
  11. Replace them with studs. Blue Loctite .
  12. Leak or not, it's pretty cool that you are finding new parts. I rest my arm on top of the door, the wing is at my wrist................I always hated the F'ing thing. '97 doors were the only solution.
  13. Every one of us have shown up with our elephants..........one bite at a time. Blue Felpro for the gaskets. General Spring for the leafs........and you'll be doing your front springs too. Rears first then adjust the front to match. Bilstein for shocks.
  14. Yes, I've had PIAA in the past and for halogens they very good.
  15. If I'm going to cut lose of $1K I'm going to deal with a US retailer. Also seller has a feedback of a whopping 4.
  16. I've saved my pennies and I'm about to order JW Speaker 8910 headlights. I'm looking for recommendations for off-road and driving lights to replace my ridiculous 3" cubes. Spot or flood or combo lights. I'm considering brands such as KC, Rigid, PIAA, JW Speaker......etc......... no ebay/chinesium junk. LEDs for sure. Have any of you found a lamp that impressed you? I'm looking for quality here.....and value of course. I'd spend some serious money on these if they were available here- ARBs are close to these but the red irritates me for some reason. (also ARB is not a lighting company...they just slap their name on someone else's crap)
  17. A short fun clip to inspire you- Now, if you want to see what the higher grits are for, how it's used, polishing-
  18. You have a beautiful truck. I can tell by your posts that you have good taste and a demand for a high quality end product, your XJ is just as nice, IIRC. Thanks for the inspiration.
  19. $1200 is hardly 'top tear', $500 wouldn't buy you one gallon of clear. I probably have close to 200 hours in body work so far.......so........... Unless your truck becomes your full-time job, you'll be working one panel at a time and in doing so you'll consume much more material. So far I've used one gallon of body work primer (lacquer) and two gallons of Upol 2K, that's about $260 just in primer. If you are not going to strip it down, built it up, block it out..........Why bother? I posted a dollar amount for a reason- What you guys leave out- Sundries, such as tape, paper, plastic, filler, spreaders, a filler palette, sand paper (a bunch), sanding blocks (several), DA (air or electric, I have both), lacquer thinner for cleaning, hardener, a couple (few) gallons of reducer, spot filler, lent-free rags, tack cloth, respirator, stud welder, body hammer and dollies, degreaser, and whatever else I can't think of at the moment. Gun and compressor are a given. Costs add up, there will be mistakes along the way and that will cost you too. There will be things that will need to be replaced or repaired along the way.......screws, bolts, door seals...etc.. The unforeseen expenses. Badges that need attention, decals that need to be replaced and so forth. Got door hinges that are sprung? bent? need welding? pins? Window guides and seals that need replaced? Now's the time to take care of it. Undercoating if your are going to address your frame appearance and give it a finished look. Water leaks? I just had my windshield removed on Tuesday, besides the fact it needed to be replaced I wanted to make certain that the channel was rust-free, clean, primed, painted, ready for new glass, I also want the rubber trim. Now is the time. Why not rattle can? The Rustoleum primer OP mentioned is not sandable, can you sand it? sure, but it's not sandable. It's meant to be used wet on wet, good for small parts, finish after flash, chemical bond. It's not meant for a full body paint. Can you get sandable primer in a can? sure, but you'll never get enough high build be make it worth using. And it will not have the sealing properties of a 2K. Even automotive grade rattle can clears will yellow over time and will never harden enough to offer long term protection or UV fade. And there is no way you will achieve a uniform finish with rattle cans, no matter how much you lie to yourself. Why did I bother to post? Quality matters to me, quality matters to my customers, quality matters. My effort matters, my time matters, my money matters. On a personal level- I have zero tolerance for laziness and apathy, if you are going to make an effort- make it count. Will I be successful? Time will tell, but if not, it won't be for a lack diligence.
  20. Yeah, I suppose if you're going to ask $13K you should at least proof your ad. It may be real though, I don't see any signs of hackery.
  21. Yes, you'll need the compressor bracket for the Renix........belt alignment. Check on the compressor and hoses for the '91, I don't think they are compatible with Renix. Everything changed in '91.
  22. I'm going to give you some solid advise here- Get to know your local automotive paint supplier, make friends, visit often. Yes, the answer is heat, heat removes the decals..........however, since someone committed an EVIL........who knows what it will take now. NO rattle cans, you'll make a mess of it. Yes, start will 80 grit........you'll have body work, you'll prime, filler and primer need the scratches to bond. 2K primer, multiple coats, at least four. Base/clear- depending on color and coverage- at least two wet coats base and up to 5 wet coats clear. Between primer and base- sand to 320 and wet sand to 400, no higher. No sanding between coats, once prepped for paint.........all wet coats. Cut-n-buff........then you'll be getting into the 1500 to 5000 and beyond grits. If you're serious about this you'll strip the entire truck......remove the bed and doors....etc........ I'm doing a tri-coat and my costs for materials in the end will be close to $1800. For base/clear you'll be around $1200.........just guessing if you're going on the cheap.
  23. Well, welcome to Comanche. It's work. It's likely time for cable replacement.
