I submitted my request form to NVU. Here is a part of it, you can see where I'm going here, I'm specifically choosing from what is already designed to keep costs down. Although, if money were of no concern..........I have other ideas. 1988 Jeep Comanche (MJ) I want to replace the existing 6 gauge cluster with modern gauges. You have two clusters on page 12 of your flicker account. The arrangement I'm looking for is exactly like Perf2night. The style of gauge including backlighting and font is found on greg-night. The dash bezel window size is 13.25 wide and 4" high. I can send you a drawing, or a gutted cluster that your cluster will need to mount to. GPS speedo with 120 read max. I found your clusters on this page https://www.flickr.com/photos/90719091@N02/with/11007358325/

AMC20 rear disk conversion
Jeep Driver replied to gogmorgo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
US citizen? just curious. We all got problems, no matter where we are. Edit Now that I think about it, I could not transfer my truck to many of the states for emissions reasons..........no different than your situation I suppose. -
Ok, your topic, your post, you stated three possible reasons for the whine. Thick gear, Yukon gear, cheapo oil. I cannot speak to Yukon gears, never used them, however, you will find countless discussions of Yukon whine, across the board, regardless of make or model. Sounds like you found the solution to Yukon whine. I don't think thick gears have anything to do with it. I thought I was on 'topic'.

AMC20 rear disk conversion

Maybe you should just apply for a green card. Or label yourself a 'dreamer'. Gov sucks. -
Thanks. Wait a year or so, you might see supercharged and injected V8 tucked away in there. :)

I don't buy the thick gear as a cause for whine, not at all. In the next few weeks, or when I get around to it, I'll be pulling the rear axles for the brake swap, I'm anxious to see what my fluid looks like. As I have mentioned before I'm using a 50/50 of 40W and Lucas, ran it for two years, maybe better than 25K miles. Every time I mentioned Lucas I have gotten the slap down........hocus pokus snake oil and all that happy crap. So, I don't mention it anymore. Lucas is a good product. I expect my housing to be clean, fluids to be clear, odor free.

I listen to KSFO primarily. They are saying the fires may burn for weeks yet. It ain't over.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong......... End of shaft looks distorted/bent/mushroomed. That's what I see.

Yes, you should have no problem adding a pump, and you don't need a separate reservoir, get a modern pump and use XJ lines. You'll need a pulley from a 87-90 MJ XJ, 2.5 or 4.0 should fit. Get a good clean DRY ZJ box........you'll be happy. Pull the steering wheel, use an angle grinder with cut-off wheel to cut the damaged portion of the steering shaft off............or, replace the entire column.

I want all six gauges on a single face, I want them to fit into the stock cluster, behind the stock lens. I want modern gauges, a modern look, but I want it to look like it's always been there. Since my colors are black/tan with blue accent, I want a black face with white digits/dials/pointer but a blue glow at night. Definitely going GPS, forever ending cables/senders. I want what no one else has. To answer your question on cost, my guess, based on what others have done, $1800

I don't know, yet. They have to send me an estimate after I send them the request form and rendering. I've looked at Speedhut's site a dozen times but I just found this page, they do make matching gauges in 3 3/8 which would fit. I contacted Speehut first, they are not willing to do one-off designs. These gauges are nice, take one to the custom page and play with it. These are a second choice. http://www.speedhut.com/gauges/3-3-8-inch/?catid=f254&i=18&p=1

Just to update this thread............. I've spent hours scouring over every conceivable combination of existing gauges, nothing other than some digital gauges that might work, just nothing that I want. I made contact with NVU today, I spoke to Micheal in the custom dept. He is willing to make a one-off 6 gauge panel to replace the stock MJ cluster. I have to do the artwork/rendering and decide on what gauge style I want. Just updating that this can be done, will be done. May take me 6 months to a year but it will happen.

I was confused.........never hears of that 'complete' assembly. Spicer ujoints are like $18 each. As for the $45 unit bearings, read threads, 6 months to a year and you'll be replacing those again.

Rears came today.

My truck was broken into years ago, lost DL and gun permit and CCs and checkbook. Wallet never gets left in a vehicle now. Really sucks getting all ID stolen.....getting replacements are a real hassle. Wait until you have your house ransacked.........all your personal belonging gone through........gold stolen...........guns stolen................really really sucks. The wife and I never leave our handguns at home now. And a trailer was stolen from my driveway 2 years ago........that's a long and interesting story, they way they got caught.

That's pretty cool! We've got yard art all over E TN..................lol

Both sides are something like $140 from Summit. US made with Jap bearings. Budget or no budget................not worth rebuilding.

I will probably just epoxy the inserts in when I get ready to hang and adjust the doors.
