Hit up www.garagejournal.com and search around for somebody doing something similar to what you want, often they will post their costs, etc. I think for $30K you should have no issue getting somebody to build that, from start to finish, for you.

I was so happy that this had fallen on the weekend that I was not working, this year. 'Course the boss called me today and asked if I'd mind working Saturday and Sunday to change a head and mast... :( I absolutely hate DST and would love to see it go away. I don't think it saves any electricity, certainly not this far north at least.

Sometimes it's worth it just to take it to the quick lube places...

Once I factor in plane tickets, fuel, and the hassle of importing it, it isn't worth it :(

There's two different ones. Earlier and later. No, I don't know the split, but I think it's in the later 80s. IIRC, my 89 XJ had the later style, that only mounted to the bumper; if somebody wants to go through the build thread for that thing, there is pictures.

Extra ridge in the roof immediately above the chimney, which deflects snow/water to either side of it, rather than allowing it to build up against the chimney. They're kinda recommended if the chimney is not near the ridge of the roof, or very narrow. If it is flashed well, and has worked, it's probably okay...

I seem to like beat up old Warn 8274s. Have one on my big ugly GMC thing, and one sitting in the pile of parts for my XJ. They're reliable, reasonably fast with the older motors, and can be found with 150' of cable for only a couple hundred dollars. Only problem is they're big, and awkward to mount.

Agreed. I have one. It was the floor model/demo, so it was cheap. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have sprung to buy it, but knowing what I know now, I would pay full price. Also, people with water beds... Check your homeowner's insurance. Some have a premium for water beds. They present a risk of water damage. If you didn't disclose it when getting insurance, you might not be covered...

It's 'worth' whatever somebody will pay for it. As hornbrod said, we need pics to provide any relevant answers. Where are you located anyways?

Really? I've never heard of that happening. But it's rare for anyone around here to have large snakes. Most people might have a little rubber boa, and that's about it. With animals in general, it's the keeper that is the potential issue. Lots of breeds of dogs get a bad rap, and while some of it may be because of instinct that is not bread out, most of it is because they were improperly trained/handled/socialized.

What are you using for the conversion? I've got a 7000W import 'special' that I would like to convert; it's a Honda clone but they didn't do a good job of cloning the carb, and I hate leaving it with gas in it to use it 4 times a year.

I thought it might be. Vented crawl spaces aren't too normal this far north. Crawl spaces are a bit of a grey area anyways, seems people have a lot of different ideas on venting. I have to agree. I see no reason for it, and would go as far as to say that it's potentially a danger.

What comes out of the vent below there? If it is a vent... I'd agree that normally heat is the only thing that really damages this stuff. Another thing that can, but is highly unlikely, is chemicals... But unless you're running a meth lab in your basement I doubt that's an issue. Seems strange. Is there anything on the inside of that wall, manifold for floor radiant heat, a big electrical panel, or something else that could be screwed up and making a bunch of heat?

You'll need to make a fairly large plate for it to mount to, since it is large, and it mounts on the front (doubles to mount the fairlead). Not specific to a MJ/XJ, but this is how I built a bumper that would mount one for my GMC thing. Image Not Found I had a piece of 3/8" mild bent to make the angle, since the dimensions of it wind up being the same as 3x10 angle, IIRC, which is hard to find. I milled the hole for the cable to pass through (angle grinder would do), and used the mill to drill the mounting holes for the winch's feet. Then I welded two pieces of 1/2" plate to the sides that attach to the frame rails (same idea on a MJ), and put the shackle holes through them. Finished product wound up something like this: Image Not Found On a MJ/XJ I'd mount it as far back as possible, cut out the header panel as needed, and if you rake the winch forwards a bit (like I did on this one) you won't have to butcher the header panel as much. Otherwise it will stick out like crazy.
