If you want to run gear oil, Schaeffer's synthetic gear oil is yellow metal safe. I use it in my AX15. Napa had it in stock. https://schaeffersoilshop.com/products/02937590-012-supreme-gear-lube-75w-90

If XJ belts fit this is probably your best option. Any color you would want. https://www.seatbeltplanet.com/i-30497867-1984-1996-jeep-cherokee-xj-4-door-front-seat-belt-kit.html I have some of their generic belts in my truck. The quality is fantastic but the ones I have are too long, they don't retract all the way.

Interior colors/paint
Eagle_SX4 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
For those looking for medium blue paint I believe I have found a match. Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric Medium Blue HVP112 https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/dupli-color/dupli-color-11-ounce-medium-blue-spray-paint/dpl0/hvp112 The color is not as dark as the lid would suggest. The previous owner painted my blue interior black but I want to go back to the blue because the black is chipping in several areas. Here are some comparison pics. I sprayed some cardboard as a test panel. This one is a piece of the dash I trimmed off by the radio This is my driver's side kick panel. -
Colt from BleepingJeep is building a 91 big ton Comanche for EJS 2025. First video went up about 2 weeks ago.

Got a new front bumper from Iron Rock Off Road. It is going to be awesome when I get it put together. Hopefully within the next month. It is a hidden winch design. It has the best mounting brackets I have seen on any bumper for a Cherokee/Comanche. They are bent and wrap under the frame not just on the side. https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/product/Mamba-xj-front-modular-bumper.html

Project: Slippery Slope – a ’91 MJ runner
Eagle_SX4 replied to Gjeep's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I agree with @89 MJ it is XJ diagram. I have found several typos in the factory service manuals while reading them. This is the first pic that has been wrong though. Here is the title of the I.S. Note. June 1986 edition. -

Stock is supposed to be 9" +- 1/2" You are only 3/4" to 1-1/4" higher than stock. It will probably settle down to within stock height. Pic from information service note 14E. -

I am curious what is the distance between the top of the axle tube and frame? -
Needing new Fuel Sending Unit and Pump
Eagle_SX4 replied to TX_Heat's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Bosch unit is a great choice but as far as I know the 69302 has been discontinued. You might get lucky and find one on eBay. I've got the fuel pump they sell and it is working well. I have been running it for about 3.5 years. -
Needing new Fuel Sending Unit and Pump
Eagle_SX4 replied to TX_Heat's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The only company that makes a new one is MTS. https://www.mtscompany.com/sendingunits.htm The one you want is a JPSU-7. They don't take online orders so you will need to call them. -
Is that a Comanche? https://www.ebay.com/itm/274449235573?_skw=WARN+9000&itmmeta=01JP5RJ3JDE0MZREZM7STFWC7E&hash=item3fe672fe75:g:sTIAAOSwSIBfKWXh&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAAwFkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1cLhJqDaXGgvQL7kXe0GjHRGsKRYAUhKbW0jIUNabyeotGHLEMozHYn9%2B7o0JYVu%2B4qhVrutAIOS%2FVUMLcRbH71nUkfguKIWWyNzJWMsImv2HNbfGVGR3evViQrndYBNpSg6hqVboGRicKKSZ9df4Xb9A482z8fESDs7f%2FjHGdLVHS1fDy4kQuCNthZaLl7YCP8b%2BEvUUutfB490l9SsEe6j4X3RXDRCGOidY9YnTbGRA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR7S5yLixZQ

I will defiantly be ordering parts from them for the next transmission I rebuild. @john.silm the rebuild kit is only $127 and includes synchros. https://www.allstategear.com/AX15-Jeep-Bearing-Kit-with-Synchro-Rings-p/bk163jws.htm

Cruise control switch/stalk, can't find one
Eagle_SX4 replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Found this post from @eaglescout526. It has a PDF file of the cruise control system with some diagnostic help in it. -
My kit came with Nachi bearings which are supposed to be very good bearings and the synchros are very well machined. Seems like a good high quality kit to me.
-
You might be able to use TJ wrangler knobs. They are easy to find with a quick Google search.
-
Both the tail shaft and housing will need to be swapped over. Which will require nearly full disassembly of both transmissions. At which point you would want to get a rebuild kit. All 4x4 AX15 transmissions have a 23 spline output shaft. The 2wd drive version has a slip joint for the driveshaft. The 27 spline input shaft you linked is for the Chevy version of the 231 and would not work for this application. I would just rebuild your 4x4 AX15 vs getting a used 2wd version. I got my rebuild kit on rockauto for $200. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=10581108

Installing a Third Brake Light/Cargo Lamp Combo
Eagle_SX4 replied to LakeOzarkMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes that is correct. It only lights up when you hit the brakes. -
Installing a Third Brake Light/Cargo Lamp Combo
Eagle_SX4 replied to LakeOzarkMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Does that make the third brake light flash with the turn signals? I connected straight to the brake light switch so I would not have to deal with the turn signal switch. -
Installing a Third Brake Light/Cargo Lamp Combo
Eagle_SX4 replied to LakeOzarkMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is what I did with mine. For power I just tied in to the brake light switch on the pedal. I used the factory wiring for the cargo light. If your truck is 86-90 it should already have the wiring for the cargo lamp. If it is 91-92 it won't have the wiring unless the cargo light was actually installed. -
I did check that both holes were in the same location both in relation the gear teeth and the bearing surface. I also used a added a lot of engine assembly lube to the "new" gear before reinstalling the distributor.
-
Good to know after comparing cams from several different places the same cam is listed for 87-95.
-
On a hunch I thought I would see if my extra 4.2 liter distributor had a better gear. It did and was a direct swap for the old worn out one. I looked at the gear teeth on the camshaft and they look like they are about as worn as the old distributor gear. Yet another project for down the road. When that happens I will probably take the opportunity to swap to a 7120 head with H.O. cam and intake manifold.
-
It may have I don't remember it misfiring when I got the truck. I have a borescope and will look at the cam gear when I get a new distributor.
-
Good news I got my distributor indexed properly and the misfire issue has gone away. Looking at the old cap the spark was arriving early catching just the edge of both the rotor and the cap. Surprised it ran as well as it did. Bad news is my distributor gear is very worn and I will need to get it replaced soon.
