Did he put the axle shafts back in or at least the outer stub shafts? I would not drive it if the shafts are missing. The unit bearings could come apart , since the stub shafts hold them together.
Check to make sure you did not knock the vacuum line off the MAP sensor, or put it back on the the bolt instead of the vacuum port by mistake. ( I have done this before, does not run to good)
Where do you live? Have any pictures of it? Have you checked Craigslist or other local ads to compare. $3000 seems high to me for a 2 wheel drive that had rust problems. I live in Arizona so rust is not very common here, so a vehicle with rust will sell for a lot less here.
Sad to hear this. Your infomation has helped me out alot on my MJ and XJ. I always looked foward to your replys when someone needed help. Hopefully you will return someday. Thanks for all your help and take care.
I painted the blue body parts satin black today for a different look. Also painted my mirrors. Going to paint the trim on my other set of tail lights black also.

I would check the thermostat first. Might not be opening all the way. I had the same issue, just one day it started to run hot. Just replace and go from there.
