  1. This is very true, I drove my 2wd in the winter for a couple years and with 800 lbs of rock in the bed and snow tires even a 16 year old me couldn’t get stuck Well except when I took the rocks out …. They went right back the next morning

This truck probably lived a life very similar to my 89, bought as a 2wd truck (mine was a apartment complex maintenance/security truck) driven locally and then bought by an enthusiast that wanted to protect the truck and keep it in good shape, oddly enough mine is same color interior, almost same option, only mine is a swb, in black and with 73k on it, looks like we have sister trucks
  3. Up here in the rust belt, all the 4wd’s were driven into the ground, these trucks were basically throwaway trucks back in the day. But the 2wd trucks weren’t as good in the snow and ice, so not as many got turned into beaters with heaters, between the 5 my dad and I have had 4 started as 2wd models and only one being 4wd (Low mile Chief brought to the north)
  4. This is super cool, I’ve always wondered if anyone had done this before, Very nice job on Fabbing up the mounts, and the fuel neck pass through on the frame. Do you plan on running a spare tire? If so where? I’m sure at the end of this you could convince someone this was a factory option Looks great so far

Finally also got to installing the last part of my Metric Ton upgrade… Maybe not the most essential part but definitely a cool one, This one was made by @boxyjeep It’s a very high quality sticker and from my research it’s almost identical to the factory one! Definitely a necessary addition to any MJ with the Metric Ton Package.

  8. Thank you very much, She certainly earns her keep around here, just the other day I helped my buddy pick up a new wheel horse and a ton of attachments, and even towing on a dirt road, not one problem And when we picked up 15 pallets at a time for my buddy’s fire

A few weeks back I finally decided I had enough of looking at my bare headliner with no fabric so I started the task of stripping the interior, as I had also yet to pull up the rug… So I also decided to peek under the carpet Not too bad for 73k original New England miles, but after seeing it I couldn’t leave it as is, After grinding I found all the thin spots, Then cut until all that was left was solid metal. Then with a little help from my dad we formed a patch Panel to get welded in. Then hammer forge, and spot weld, and run beads to patch it in: (The gloss finish is some clear Por-15 we had lying around) Then repeat for the drivers side Then finished with grey paint on top to match the factory, as well as seam sealing. (The small hole on the drivers side trans tunnel was riveted in place and sealed, as it was right above the fuel lines) Finally to the part that this is actually about, at the same time I had stripped the rest of the interior, and pulled out the headliner my father had ordered for it over 10 years ago for it to finally get installed Amazingly after being rolled up in a box for 10 years the headliner didn’t want to be in its final shape, even after being layed out on the couch for 3 days The headliner really tied the interior back together, everyone who has rode in it since really appreciates how much it makes the red pop. One last side note for anyone wondering what the wire for the cargo lamp looks like inside, and if the hole is in the metal under, here it is. The connector is tied up to the drivers side B-Pillar light, and the hole is in the center of the roof substructure for the wire to go through (This Is on my 1989) Also I found the Shifter floor delete panel very interesting, as this is a 2wd auto on the column, the floor has just a bolt on cover
  10. I run sagged 3” rusty coils (2” lift) with 3/4” spacers up front with super ride RE lca’s, and doetsch shocks in the front. In the back Hell Creek Metric Ton springs with RC shocks on 31” cooper evolution MT LT load range C. It rides a little stiff in the back while unloaded (40 psi in tires) But when loaded with between 400 and 800 lbs it rides like a Cadillac, soaks up dirt roads and potholes. Even unloaded the ride on dirt roads is surprisingly good. Even at highway speeds (70-85ish) it all rides very smooth, both loaded and unloaded with almost no vibration (with unbalanced tires) Also the load range C tires are plenty for hauling and towing, you just need slightly higher pressures.

  15. Before you go to using a pry bar or hammer ensure you got all the bolts on the engine plate and engine, some face forward and are easy to miss. Try grinding the bolt head flat that is stripped out to ensure it isn’t holding things up anymore, then it should just act as a 3rd dowel pin and require extra prying at the top of the trans. once you get it off you should just be able to get the leftover stud off with vice grips and some encouraging words.

  18. As a matter of fact yes I have it was something we were worried about after my dad and I put it together, it was running hot for the first 100 ish miles, between 160 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit on the pinion now after it’s been driven on for about 500 miles it runs a solid 120 on the pinion

  20. I know the late model wheel well liners are made of a better material that won’t break, but I’m not sure if they are reproduced, i sourced my set out of a 94 xj in the junkyard, and the rear bumper covers are not reproduced to my knowledge, so you’ll have to scour the used market for those

After getting my D44 installed and broken in It was time for my second trip up to Maine for 4x4 proving grounds My buddy and I got up there and we had a blast with our mowers, I brought my boggermobile, and my buddy brought his wheel horse, along with my original tractor as old reliable. Finally to the action shots: ^yes that is a 33” bogger underneath the water completely Definitely a top 10 weekend for me, I met a ton of awesome people, including some guys who completely swamped his xj that we spent the rest of the weekend fixing with them so they could hit some more mud. Finally some of the random stuff that was there This last Dakota was a truck from my high schools automotive that one of the students bought From the school and fixed up into a mud truck
