  1. Hmmm.... Is there some sort of bracket they attach to up in there, like with the B-Pillar speakers? I'd go out and check for myself, but this darn Tropical Storm isn't letting up on the rain. I'll have to look more into this. I'd be pretty happy if I can get rid of the honkin' huge door speakers altogether for some hidden ones in the B-Pillars and in that nook.
  2. Got a chrome front / rear bumper? I think the King of Chrome might be in serious trouble if you can figure out a way to somehow chrome all 4 fender flares. :rotfl2: That'll really get him burning. :rotf: Looks really good though, in all honesty.
  3. This is more of a "What are these here for?" question than anything. Are these cutouts in the kick-panel purely for aesthetic value? Or do they have some sort of hidden purpose? I always thought that if you had a pickup with the speaker delete door panels (MJ specifically, not sure about the XJ) that some sort of speakers would be put here. A buddy of mine had an old 90s Geo Tracker and this is pretty much where his speakers were mounted by the factory. Then again, if you had the delete door panels, I'm assuming the original buyer had no interest in a radio either, so that got a delete panel as well... :dunno:
  4. Oh jeez. don't want to imagine how the Comanche would have looked if THAT was the final design for the XJ Thankfully, they gave it a more rugged "Jeep" look.
  5. Bearing down for a "Hurricane" that's supposed to be side-sweeping FL and heading right up into AL by Tuesday. Was hoping to get some things done on my days off this week; coincidentally when this thing is supposed to side-sweep us. A little peeved, but no big deal. Still trying to figure out what I want to do about the radio situation. Also still have to install the alternator I picked up earlier this week from 90PioSport99. So many things to do, and not enough time to do them in. :ack: I bet I'm forgetting something, but can't remember what it is... :dunno:
  6. Interesting story; but I can't say I'm surprised though. Gotta love those AMC engineers... I'll have to remember that Sil-Glyde for when I install some leakers. If I can find a decent pair that is. Apparently the PO never had the window channel weatherstrip on my driver's side wing, so the entire thing is rusting down and has holes in it. So it's basically a non-functioning vent window. :fs1:
  7. Thought I was the only one that that had happened to. :dunno: I remember swapping out my gas gauge a while back for another one, and it didn't work. 10 miles into my drive, it just snapped on. And yes, my FSU is 100% operational. Temperature gauge did that one time as well too. I'm thinking it has to be a freak thing though. Usually they don't act up when swapped out; at least most of the ones I've swapped / seen. :???:
  8. No idea if I even have any on the truck (highly unlikely) but I would like to get my grubby hands on some. They fit nice and snug inside the B-Pillar trim area (near the bottom) for anyone not knowing what I'm referring to. Shipping is to the 32778 area. :chillin: Thanks.
  9. 87 was. Guy is sitting on a complete goldmine for an FSJ lover. Definitely has no idea how rare that thing is. Less than 2k trucks came off the line in '87.
  10. Diggin' the scratch style Sport on the side of it. :chillin: Seems like a pretty decent truck. Am also curious of the build date. :brows:
  11. Just curious, as I hacked mine off at the base of the tower when I removed the passenger fender to install the new one (also hacked that one at the same spot). Is there an aftermarket replacement for these things (specifically the one with the L plug for the radio, not the straight plug type of old)? Or do I have to source one from the junkyard? More importantly, can it be removed from the tower and transplanted to another? Might be swapping back to a Jeep tape deck, and I do occasionally like to listen to the radio now and then. Plus, I'd just like to get everything working like it used to in there. Also, am I going to have to pull the dash to install a new one (or used)? I've been thinking of swapping out the heater core as of late, so it'd be preferred if I could do it all together. :ack:
  12. Shot the passenger side flare yesterday with the KF paint. Seems to have come out much better than the driver's side (in terms of glossiness and overall smoothness). I'll probably have to add another thick coat to the driver's side. :ack: Got my alternator from 90PioSport99 yesterday. Took it up to Advance to test it and everything checks out  Might install it today, depending on if I can get motivated from sleeping most of the day away. It's always the days I work that are nice and pleasant in the afternoons. Seems like the days I have off are the ones that have to rain for 9 hours of the day.... Also managed to break the faceplate off my radio, from trying to fix a ground wire that came disconnected. So I'm seriously considering going old school again and rewiring another Cherokee tape deck. This radio's been a PITA ever since I installed it. Seems I threw out the old wiring harness for the tape deck I have now, so this one will probably be my parts deck... :dunno: If only I could get my hands on an old AMC TD. That'd be pretty cool. :brows: Car show seems up in the air right now, as I have to work Saturday night. Might go, might not. :dunno: Lastly, a sexy Grand Wagoneer I came across the other day while getting some stuff at the store. Because everyone needs some more Grand Wag. in their lives.
  13. Every time I see a nice center console like this I have to think of 5 reasons I shouldn't put one in my truck, along with some buckets. I still have yet to come up with 5 reasons other than laziness. Keep it up man!
  14. Don't feel bad Pete; It took me a month to remember to set the Quartz clock to the correct time... even though I drove it ever day and looked at it several times during said day. :fool:
  15. Nope. I'm sure some of my measurements are off, but I'm going for a 1:1 scale.
  16. So I had the intentions of making a prototype weather sensor today. Those plans promptly fell through when no craft store or even a party supply store had the style of plastic balls I was looking for. Seems I'll have to either head over to a major craft supply store or order everything online. I was just going to make a single one for now. Still trying to get a lead on tiny blinking LEDs. Time for more I suppose. :typing: On a positive note, I may have found my "Dorothy" drum. My buddy's old man is a collector of all kinds of different things, and he has quite a number of rain barrels sitting around his rather large garage that are the exact dimensions I'm looking for. I'm going to see if I can work my magic and get one for a few clams; much better than paying $100 for one. :brows:
  17. Decided to do something about those fender flares today. Was a perfect mix of wind, sun, and cloud coverage to do so; although it was still as hot as Mars. :ack: Was reading MJ300's DIY thread on using Krylon plastic paint to restore your old, faded, and generally grubby looking flares. It made his truck look even better than it originally did, so I decided to give it a go with mine. Got some black satin, which gives the flares a slight glossy look, like they originally did back in the day. Good stuff, and cheap too. Roughed the flare up a bit with some 60 grit. Decided I'll try lightly dry scuffing the old paint instead of wet sanding it down like MJ300 did with his. Didn't leave any nicks in the flare, which was what I was worried about. Here's after the first light coat. After the 3rd heavy coat. The 2nd coat was a medium one. We got a pretty good rainstorm for a few hours down here; and the water just beaded right off of it. I'll have to check on it in the morning to see how it handled the weather. A comparison shot of this repainted one verses the one directly in back. Decided to do the same thing with the vents. Same method of scuffing, with a light, medium, and heavy coat of paint. Looks lots better than it did before. Lastly, something I've been very iffy on the last 2 weeks since my P&P trip. Picked up 2 tan OEM Jeep floormats out of a 91 Cherokee for a whopping $2.00. The problem is; these things smelled like $#!&. I think that may even be putting it mildly. After giving them a 2 day power wash with the strongest chemicals my old man had up at the dealership; and letting them hang on a clothesline for 2 weeks in the hot FL heat, rain, and wind, they finally lost their roadkill smell. Decided to paint them with the leftover paint I used on my door panels. This is one after one medium coat of paint. Still needs another coat, and then the second one will get the same. It's nice having OEM stuff for my truck. Makes it look better for car shows too. Speaking of car shows, I'll be attending the one in Eustis again this Saturday (should be there by 3:30) if anyone in the Central FL area wants to stop by. Should have a better showing this time with the truck looking 10x better than it did last time. :chillin:
  18. Not sure how I completely missed that. Still, not a bad haul
  19. Been following this thread for a while like Backdraft, but haven't commented until now. First off, I have to say that that is one beautiful MJ. The color is absolutely gorgeous, and everything about it just makes me jealous.  I'll have to go back and have a re-read through the thread to remember everything else I have to give you props for, but then my post would probably take up a whole page. ;) Keep up the good work man! Also, a Honcho with a Pignose AND a brow? For shame. Just kidding, that is one sexy truck. :brows:  What kind of Engine/Tranny combo you have in there? EDIT: Nevermind, don't know how I missed it on page 6  :fool:
  20. Not sure if I missed this, but is the no-frills red one the 91, and the AMC Blue one the 87? Both are pretty decent looking trucks  :wrench: Will be watching with much interest.

    oh crap !!!!

I can't say I've ever heard someone complain about the 300 i6's torque output. Those had some balls. I've driven a 300 that was in pretty good shape. I'll admit, it's got the power, but it still feels bogged down; to me at least. :dunno: Not bashing the 300, as I am still impressed with their overall design and lastability; just simply throwing my 2 cents in.

    oh crap !!!!

 Haven't had a good laugh yet today, thanks for that. I've driven a number of Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and GM Trucks, and I can say that the F-150s were the absolute worst of the lot. Granted, the 150s were the 80s-mid 90s models and I haven't driven any of the NEWER F-150s, but still. Chevy's were in the same timeline, my old co-manager had a 2002 Dakota. Loved that truck. Was a real gas-hog though with that Magnum V6, but it had real get-up-and-go power. I had more faith in my boss's little 2.2 GMC Sonoma than I did either of his 2 F-150s (1 I6 and 1 V8) he had hanging around for the company to use. Always breaking down, un-reliable, rode like a rickity push-cart, could barely get out of their own ways, and most of all, didn't have any of the torque left that his little 4 cylinder still had. The only credit I'll give either of them is that the interiors were amazingly plush and comfortable, and the layout on the dash was nice... But then again, most of the gauges in either of them didn't work.. so it's a bit of a moot point. ---- Getting back on topic though, I'm not surprised at the plastic use in todays cars. You have to remember though, that todays plastic is 10x better and more durable than the crap everyone used to get in the 70s and 80s. I'm also just going to assume that since Jeep is USING the stuff, it must be reliable. Either that, or Marchionne is more clever than I originally gave him credit for.
  23. Actually, I may be selling this one to buy a better condition one. (I'll keep the roll bar and brush guard for the new truck which is missing them) Is the bed rusted onto the frame? You don't see too many of those stype beds anymore. IMO, I would keep it; maybe someone with good fab skills can fix 'er up. I hear about FSJ guys looking for those beds every so often. If you can't sell it, I wouldnt mind buying some small, misc parts off it. If you part it out instead that is. :brows:
  24. Actually, you have them reveresed. If you use a WJ booster / MC, you have to enlarge the hole and add a spacer. On the 96 XJ (unsure if 95 is the same) it's a simple matter of installing it and bleeding it. According to Don, the 96 is a plug and play deal, but I haven't seen anyone actually install one and give their 2 cents on it.
