Wow; I'm pretty impressed. Maybe I'll just have to keep searching the pick and pulls then. :hmm: :dunno:

I remember seeing the video about the Firebird a while back.. Can't believe that kid actually survived hitting the pillar of the overpass.

The updated MPFI AMC 2.5. Obviously the biggest difference is the multi-point fuel injection, but what else is different about it? I assume it has 4 injectors on a rail VS the 1 inside the TBI on the old style engines? If I were to swap one into my MJ, what would I have to change other than the complete wiring harness? Any other useful tidbits about these things? I don't ever hear much talk about it, probably due to the fact that it was always more of a YJ engine than an MJ one. I figure I might go the MPFI route one day when this engine gives up the ghost; if the upgrade is worth the trouble. Hopefully that won't be anytime soon :crossfingers: ; but then again, Murphy's Law tends to strike at the worst possible times. :ack:

88 Comanche Olympic Edition
Zenobian_84 replied to cdizzy001's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Olympic edition was just a "Prettied Up" 1988 Comanche option. I believe they came with extra goodies like a larger gas tank and the 4.0. Not sure about anything else though; the only real way to tell an Olympic version from a regular is the Olympic ring logo found underneath the "Comanche" emblem location on the fenders. Can't recall atm who on here had an Olympic Edition, and what was on it. :dunno: -
Love the front license plate. I am, INDEED, mad. Great truck though! One of the best I've ever seen!

Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Bought some goodies, although I probably shouldn't have bothered with the headlights, since I'm going to be returning one of them... probably both honestly; since I HIGHLY doubt I'm going to find another "Made in USA" headlamp. It's also good to note that I'm really starting to get tired of getting these "Made in China" BS parts that are even worse than the $#!& I'm trying to @#$%ing replace here! -
Want even more proof that this is getting rediculous? Look at this; a perfect example. 2 headlights purchased an hour ago from a local Carquest where my GF happens to work. Notice the difference in the boxes? Out of the box. Everything seems alright....? Wait, no, there's something wrong here. You can see what's wrong. One headlight looks like it should, and the other seems foggy. If you can even believe it, the one on the left is MADE IN USA, circa 2003. The one on the right is made in China, circa 2010. Same price for both, but you can see where the quality is. The "Glass" on the one on the right doesn't even feel like glass, but rather a hard plastic. :headpop:

Been a while, with nothing major to report. Did find a good video on how to make a good looking Anemometer though. Going to try and make some sort of prototype today before I head off to work. I also need to find some cheapo VCRs and rob them of their ball bearing spinners; It's what makes the tape play / spin (or in this case, the anemometer) Going to do some things different than what's in the video though.

I totally agree with you Knever I don't usually go off on tandems like this, because most of the people I talk to about it already feel the same as I do, but here goes anyway.... Sorry to say this, but China already dominates America. Not only are our citizens to set in their ways to make a difference in the products they buy that actually SUPPORT AMERICAN businesses, but they honestly don't really care; as long as they have food in their houses, designer clothes to wear, and the technology that they "just can't live without" to use daily. :thwak: Take a look at everything you own in your household, and try to find 10 things that aren't made in China. 90% chance that you won't be able to. It's a crying shame how a few decades ago, you could still find those "Made In U.S.A." stamps on a lot of the things you bought; now, it's nearly impossible. But not only that, the few US makers of goods (specifically Auto Parts makers) goods nowadays aren't any better quality than the "Chinese Charlie" parts you can buy at the parts stores and are usually nearly twice as much. Made in the USA is a dying breed; and it's only through people like US here and the guys over at IFSJA (a lot more groups out there, but the only one that comes to mind) that still value the hardworking Americans who are masters of their crafts that can still produce the high quality goods that, at one time, dominated the industry here in America. I think if I kept going with this, I'd just write a whole page basically saying the same thing. It boiles down to the lazy masses of today and their "ignorance and un-willingness" (for a better term) to do anything to support American producers and businesses. Hell, I work for Walmart, and everyone there knows that it's because of Walmart that we have so many of the problems with "Made in China" products nowadays. Supply and demand folks, that's all it it's about; along with the industry fat-cats making that sweet money at the end of the day. Other than that, forget about who you're stepping on, or what you're destroying to get there; am I right?

Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Didn't happen. Somehow lost my torx bits so I have to get some new ones to undo the seatbelt buckle bolts. Yet another week on the back-burner. :wall: -
Not trying to add any fuel to the fire here, but everyone is pretty accurate with their estimates; I wouldn't pay much more than $300 on my nicest day. It's not about what you think it's worth; it's about what some clod out there is willing to spend to get it from you.

Who Wants A Comanche Club Can Coozie? (They're Here!!)

:( Sorry to hear that Pete. What's the difference between the two? Not too familiar with Coozies in general I'm afraid. :hmm: :dunno: -

Going to try and change out the door weatherstripping today. Hopefully, those heads won't break off the rusty screws when I undo them... :crossfingers: :ack: -
Bump? Surely someone has to have a few of these things laying around.... :redX:

I would go with Rob's advice; some engines in the GM family are picky about those Delco plugs, I've seen it before. Oh, and it is a conspiracy Pete. "Truck" Code Engine my rear end! Those clods at AMC were too lazy to check the goods GM was dropping off at Kenosha I tell you! :fs1:

Vendor For Door & Window Seals
Zenobian_84 replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not to :hijack: but is it recommended to remove the dash to install the door seals? Or is there enough room to barely squeeze them in? Was pretty easy to remove at the junkyard, but I'm guessing it won't be that way to install. :ack: -

Low Oil Pressure Really Low!
Zenobian_84 replied to jeep_freek88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wouldn't hurt to swap in another gauge to test if the sender is bad. If the other one reads the same, change the sending unit first. Can't recall where it's located on the 4.0, but that's probably what I would do first. If the new OSU (oil sending unit) reads the same, then you should probably move on to swapping a new oil pump in. Always start with the cheap stuff and work up from there. -
A good teardrop trailer is a thing of beauty. You'd give the CoMansion a run for it's money. :rotfl2:

I don't know whether I'm crazy, or just unlucky; but every seatbelt buckle cover I've come across in the P&P, be it XJ or MJ is not the same as my own. I would have figured that Chrysler would have at least kept this designed the same, but I guess not. The right one is out of my 87, and the left one is out of an early month 88. You can see the difference here. I'm assuming that all Chrysler produced MJ's have the "Tri-Rounded" edges, whereas the AMC one is bigger, and square. I'd like to have 2 of the AMC version buckle covers (in the light "AMC Blue" if possible, but if not, I'll take anything), because the one in the picture my old man somehow broke off the mounting areas. :dunno: Shipping shouldn't be much, if anything I'm assuming (32778 area) Let me know what you have; thanks.

FWIW, Astra Hammond makes a few models of Louvers that are "supposedly" a direct fit on an MJ. None of them look as sharp as the OEM one though, in my opinion.
-
Just some things I want to get done before the new year arrives. Get floor pans repaired / new carpet installed. Replace the valve cover again and use the newer OEM 2.5 bolts I picked up. Do a complete tune up within the next month. Figure out why my Non-A/C system still isn't working correctly even though I've checked all the vacuum lines to and from the darn thing. Get a new windshield installed. Get a new rear slider installed. Figure out how much tech-school is going to cost me. :ack: Anyone else looking at tackling some projects before the new year? Doesn't have to be MJ related either.
-
My reaction. Wow. Don't even want to know where you dredged that one up from Jimbo. I'd rather have some random good looking chicks to look at for a month than something with it's own zip code.

Having a fun birthday / anniversary. Ordered myself 2 "presents" for the occasion. One is a copy of Castlevania 3 for the NES, the other is a new LG Optimus Elite phone to replace my Optimus V. Instead of working on the Jeep this weekend, I'm going to relax and work on playing the heck out of my 360 I usually don't ever touch. First on the agenda? -

Carnuck's stepside Honcho? Already seen it out IFSJA a while back. It's a shame he's selling it. If I had the means to get it and the money set aside, I might consider it for a slow side project restoration. :dunno:
