Molded Gasket - Dakota 2.5?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OS 34007 R - 1 Piece oil pan gasket From the description and pictures of it on the website, it looks nothing like the one I bought previously. In fact, I can't find that particular gasket anymore at all! :fs1: My advice is to buy at least 2 of those nice valve cover gaskets and hope they don't discontinue them like I'm assuming they did with the nicer oil pan ones. -
In 30 years, you'll probably be one of the only people left in the country with a "true" J-Truck. Only seen two around where I live within the last 3 years. Still can't believe I let that 84' slip through my fingers. :fs1:

Yup. She doesn't go on the forums, although she knows I waste 60% of my days off surfing around on here. I'm also very positive she'll say yes. We've kind of had a thing for each other since we were little kids back in grade school, although we always thought the other wasn't interested. You can imagine the surprise when we hooked up 3 years ago. Plus, she teases me off and on about when I'm going to ask the question.

Yup. I know how it is. I went into Advance earlier to pick up a differential gasket. Person behind the desk can't figure out how to find the section for differential stuff, so they told me to go home and order it off the website. Sometimes I wonder how these people can hold a job. :thwak:

Molded Gasket - Dakota 2.5?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Rejoice my 2.5 brethren; finally found a solution for those of us who hate using those $#!&ty cork gaskets. Went and picked up the 98 2.5 gasket I posted earlier about. $28 later. Fits like a glove, and is the same quality as the one piece one I picked up for the oil pan earlier this year. This one will only fit the aluminum valve cover, so you guys still running the plastic are stuck with the cork / rubber combos. One more potential oil leak I can eliminate for good now. Hopefully this will be the last pricey purchase; trying to cut back on $ spending for a while... :ack: -
Not even sure where I want to know where this came from. I'm also fairly certain she would go gaga over it. She's started to get into the whole Jeep Bug ever since I bought my truck. Took me a while to convince her I "Didn't waste my money on a POS Jeep Pickup". Now, she wants a YJ / TJ to replace her DD. :shake:

It's just Jim being... well... Jim! Congratulations on fulfilling the "Lifelong Dream" Jimbo. :rotfl2:

1986 MJ 2.5L 4x4 | "Heavy Four"

Sexy! :rotfl2: -
Seems like it was just last week when I met my high school sweetheart. Fast forward a few pleasant, exciting years and we've made it to the 3 year anniversary mark, with her birthday coming up (next Tuesday). Much to her girlfriends' delights, I'm going to finally pop the question on Halloween (at a small get-together with friends), and take them along to do ring shopping tomorrow. Here's hoping for something nice, and many more happy years together.  . . . . . Now hopefully the MJ won't get jealous and start to wonder where all my "Misc. Jeep Parts Repair $" goes to. :rotfl2:

Putting A Newer 2.5 Engine Into My 86
Zenobian_84 replied to jmderyke's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, as I was told by Eagle in a previous thread....; That's pretty much it -- multi-port injection (one per cylinder) rather than a single injector in the throttle body. I don't know, but I would expect that the head got the same port revisions the 4.0L got when it went from Renix to Mopar. The change affects both injection and ignition, so you would need all under-hood wiring and the Mopar ECU to make it work. The MPFI version was rated for quite a boost in power -- The original carbureted version was rated as producing 105 horsepower at 5,000 RPM and 132 foot-pounds of torque at 2800 RPM. The throttle body injected version produced 117 horsepower at 5,000 RPM and 135 foot-pounds of torque at 3,500 RPM when it was introduced in the 1986 model year. This was raised to 121 horsepower at 5,250 RPM and 141 foot-pounds of torque at 3,250 RPM for model years 1987 through 1990. The final, multi-port injected version produced 130 horsepower at 5,250 RPM and 150 foot-pounds of torque at 3,250 RPM. -
Have the exact problem as well. The driver's side window has some pretty deep scratches; might end up just replacing the whole thing. :ack:

Decided to get another valve cover gasket. To no surprise, the cork is finally giving up the ghost again; plus, I'm giving the truck a tune up anyway, so it was time for another. Found this nice (but pricey) gasket on Advance Auto's listing under a '98 2.5 Dakota (PN: VS 50502 R). Looks like the same one I have on my oil pan (also found under a '98 2.5 Dakota) and like one's I've seen for the 4.0s. I know about the "Crush Spacers" on the 2.5 aluminum valve cover, but am unsure if the Dakota uses the same style on the newer 2.5s. Has anybody tried using this gasket on a Renix 2.5? If not, I might just pony up the money to give it a test; either that, or take in my spare aluminum valve cover to see if they can let me test it out. :dunno:

Pretty much summed up my whole thoughts on the J-Truck scheme by the bigwigs over at Jeep. Although, I do believe they would just end up in a backfiring position on the "Eagle" approach if they were to do something of that nature with a Subi AWD competitor. I still remember as a kid all the flack the Jeep/Eagle (even though you're referring to the AMC version Eagle) deal got with a lot of people; namely the talk around work w/ where my dad used to work. I doubt most people even remember the Eagle brand (or the original car itself), but there's always surprises out there waiting.

Cool, thanks guys.

Not too bad actually. Decent bed area, considering it's on the Libby platform. Ditch the rear wiper though, there's absolutely no need for that other than to say it's the ONLY pickup with that kind of option. Also, it would probably be perfect if they slapped another foot extension on the bed. I'm a lot more impressed with this than most of the talk about what's coming around concerning a Jeep Pickup.

Going to spend some change on a grease gun soon; so I can eliminate the need to go up to where my father works and borrow one of the technician's guns. Question is, and it sounds noobish, but the grease you use in the gun is the "general purpose grease" right? No heavy super duty mega stuff? Its pretty much just going to be used on the usual components every few months or so. I figure it'll pay for itself in the longrun

:dunno: Not any that come to mind or any that I've seen happen to others. I haven't pulled the Champions yet (been in there for a year) to check on their condition since being used. Won't really know if there was a problem 'til I do. I just like sticking with the same tried-and-true things, IE: Same brand oil filter, fuel filter, etc. I'll probably end up using the Autolites this time and see if there's any noticeable difference between the two sets.

I know there's a lot of people who are picky about their plugs just like they're picky about their women. I should know, because I am one of these people. I'm also curious because I was reading a very heated debate over on Wrangler Forum about DIS 4.0 Plugs. :shake: So, long story short, what's your preferred plug (for 2.5 / 4.0)? What would you recommend on avoiding? I figure this might be a helpful post to new guys on the forum looking for solid advice as well. I mistakenly bought some Autolite's at the parts store because that's what I thought I had on there last time. Of course, I had Champions on the truck instead.... :fool:

Page not found. :dunno: I thought about trying to find a WS1 Firebird for a while, but gave it up due to costs. They look, sound, and drive so nice though...

I bet you might be right. He's such an amazing singer though.

Seeing as how the Jeep is in great running condition, I have a bit of spare change set aside to off and on searching for my "dream" car; an 80's Pontiac Firebird (305 V8, T-Tops, 5 Speed). I'd love to get my hands on one of these for cheap to use as a fixer-upper / show car someday. Especially since I'm going to be going to tech school for around 2 years and would need something to work on while I'm going. Behold, the first car I ever really fell in love with; my all-time personal favorite (sorry Jeep!). Plus, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Pontiac brand. :driving:  Now if only I could find a decent one around FL somewhere....

:rotfl2: Gotta love Tom Jones.

Figured that was probably it as far as revisions go. Definitely wasn't expecting anything like the 4.0 update for NVH. Thanks for the info Eagle.

Gotta love the bit about the "Typical failing Jeep clear coat." Truer words were never said. :shake: Looks like a good truck for the price. Could probably snag it for 1k if you're a smooth talker.
