Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Haven't done too much lately. I'll probably work on getting the weatherstripping swapped out, and the new door handles installed / polished when I start my weekend tomorrow. -
My Badass Metric-Ton Comanche Build! (The End)
Zenobian_84 replied to MancheKid86's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Awesome truck man. Props on all the work you've gotten done with it. -
Haven't forgot about you ExGray. :waving: (Had to go back and change the first post in the thread; I had no idea why I put down Whowey when I meant to put down YOUR name :thwak:  ) I was wondering if you were still driving the old girl, seeing as how I've been out your way a few times in the last month and haven't seen it hanging out at the dump. If you ever want or need a hand with anything, shoot me a PM; I'll be glad to come help you out and talk some Jeep.

Has anyone ever seen a factory AMC window louver on an MJ; in person? :dunno: Like everyone else, I was pretty surprised that was even an option. Also, seems Jim was right in another thread about the passenger side mirror being an "option" (Black SporTruck, 3rd picture in my big post) I didn't think you could get away with doing that sort of thing back then.

Reminds me of the brother of my next door neighbors. Has a sweet white, 88 Cherokee in very good condition, and whenever he's over at their house, he eyeballs my MJ from the other side of the fence. The only problem wrong with the Cherk. though is the fact that he has a solid piece of plywood for the grill. :thwak:

Right on man. Those 4.2s are awesome!

Each picture represents a page. Apologies for taking so long; had to re-scan a few pages I accidently blurred by moving them. Also, as you can see from the first (2nd in chronological order) picture below, we weren't the first ones to come up with darkening the borders around the taillights. Seems AMC was ahead of the game by about 20 years. I for one didn't know they used to do that back then. I thought it was a

:brows:  Working on getting the rest up as we speak. Just thought I'd post this one as a teaser.

Had a pretty decent, albeit small, haul at the yard yesterday. Driver / Passenger 97+ XJ Door Moldings - ($6.00 for both) Driver / Passenger Chrome Door Handles - ($19.00 for both) Spare Black Window Crank - ($2.00) Random Emblems - Free (not "Pocket Parts") Pontiac Firebird Dash Band (pretty neat, also free, and not "Pocket Parts") I'll post up a few pics of some cars I found later. Coolest thing I found was a 70s Plymouth Valiant with an indestructible Slant-Six. Didn't find any AMC related swag / radios though. :fs1: -
Saw a dark grey (possibly black?) SWB a mile outside of Deland headed towards Eustis on 44 yesterday around 2:00 pm. We both looked at each other and I didn't get to give whoever it was a thumbsup!

Interesting. I'll have to look into this the next time I hit up the P&Ps. I believe most of the time there's at least 1 PT cruiser, and a handful of WJ's there. Also, that is one clean engine bay! Makes me jealous every time I see it, Murph.

CoMansion definitely. That thing is ridiculously cool! Makes me green with envy too, I might add.

Thanks! It's so beautiful...

Oil Pressure After Oil & Filter Change
Zenobian_84 replied to guckingfuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Doesn't sound too far off from mine. Usually fluctuates at around 40-50 when idle and stays around 40-60 when running after it's warmed up. I believe most of the time it's around a constant 55 psi (running, not idle). I'd follow Jim's advice though; doesn't hurt to make sure it's running at it's peak. -

I was reading up on that on your thread. How are they holding up by the way? I'm assuming you used some "Make-A-Gasket" or some such when you installed them? -
Most of the AMC 20 SJ axles are, like Richasco stated, lower geared. Usually in the 3.31 range, with few above that number. If anything, I would look into an Explorer 8.8 or a Dana 44; both are pretty tough stuff axles and will suffice for what you plan on doing. Don (Hornbrod) has a 4.6 stroker and I believe he runs a 44. Not sure if he's had any noticeable issues with it though. I'm also fairly certain he likes to occasionally drive it with an iron boot on as well.

Strange to hear the thicker oil didn't help it (if you did use any by chance). When I got my truck, it had the same problem, and I know that it was a sticky lifter. I didn't use any treatment, but have switched to 10-40 weight oil. Tick has gone away and the motor runs smooth. Now if only I could get rid of it's occasional stumble... :ack:

A pic would be nice. I'm interested in finding the other variants of the AMC offered radios for our trucks as well.

Replacement For A 2.5 Tb?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just to those wanting to know, this question was asked for the sake of seeing whether or not I could use a 4.0 TB in place of my own TB, simply because I don't want to pay an outrageous price for either a NEW TB or a NEW fuel injector. Seems I can't get out of either I'm afraid. I'll have to pick up a spare throttle body next time I find a 2.5 at the pick-and-pull. On the other hand, the info Bulliwagon and Murphy posted is very interesting. I think if I wanted a dramatic increase in power, I'd go with a 3.4 or 4.0 swap-a-rooni though. 3.4 would definitely be cool. :brows: -
Replacement For A 2.5 Tb?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmmm... darn. Well, I guess this setup is here to stay then. Too much work for me to squeeze out another 5 HP at most from this engine. -

Decided I'm going to spend the change for some KC's up front to match the ones from the J10. Just have to find a decently priced pair online.... :typing: Still very much up in the air on the decision of a roll-bar. It would give the truck a good look, but I bought the MJ for versatility, so it would probably spend more time off more than being on it. I'd rather have the tools to fix my Jeep should it ever breakdown rather than see what someone's doing at the end of the block. :dunno: I am very much considering a factory looking brush guard for up front though. Anybody know of where to get one at? :redX: -
Replacement For A 2.5 Tb?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Interesting; I knew about the above stated difference though. I wonder how the YJ guys pulled it off then. Unless there's a difference between the design of the AMC 2.5 and the Chrysler/AMC 2.5 allowing the Injector in the TB to be bypassed. Doubt it though, so that would mean they had to rig it up into the system another way, right? :dunno: -
I've heard that a 4.0 TB can be mounted to a 2.5 engine with apparently minor modifications, if any. Is this true? My TBI system is running perfect as of right now, but I know that sooner or later (later, hopefully) it will start to show it's age and wear out. I just want to see what the scoop on this is; if it's true or not; and what negatives there are to installing a 4.0 TB over another 2.5 (mainly to get out of the $100+ NEW 2.5 fuel injector cost. You 2.5 guys know what I'm talking about) A link for viewing pleasure; some guy's help thread about having a WOT symptom after he swapped one onto his 2.5 YJ. http://www.jeepforum...p-help-1343376/
