My old man used to have a 93 Cherokee. Colorado Red with a cool brush guard on it. The first vehicle I remember him owning and I fell in love with it at age 5. Had some fun times bouncing around in that back bench. There used to be a picture of it IIRC, but it's probably lost to time now. :(

About time you made some progress. Now get that 4x4 swap finished and get that leaky SIV back on the road. :wrench: :brows: If you ever want some help, just shoot me a line. Wouldn't mind coming out to give you a hand.

Wasn't the one I was thinking of. Met the kid in the last 15 minutes of my lunch hour. Turns out he met up with some friends and left it there to go offroading with them (2WD '87 4.0 I found out; with the $#!&ty Puke-Goat) Told me his grandpa's DD truck. He said he came up there about 20 minutes after I started working and ogled my truck with his other buddy and his GF. Told him it took a lot of work to make it look as good as it does now; gave him a card with the skinny on CC. I was surprised when he said he had to drive back to Lady Lake and get home. Don't know why he'd be out this far, but whatever. It was cool.

But I think yours is the epitome of manly. Just make the person who needs the couch moved throw it on the rack. Either that or tie it to the bumper and have them sit on it while you hit the road. Like this. Instead of "Man", just think "Truck". Too bad it's not a real badge. I'd rock it.

Am sitting next to a Gray Renix LWB. Pretty surprised when I came outside for my lunch break. Will post some pictures when I get off work. :brows: Pretty sure I've seen this one within the last few months. Didnt think anyone drove it, as it was sitting in the yard of a nice house with 2 other cars.

You'd be correct. 'Course, I only used that thing to hold all the pennies I'd accumulate from being on the road. Now I just store them in the armrest on the door panel. Thanks guys

Don't shoot me for all this...

I was able to make a good replacement for that actually. If it's not broken at the bend of the Air inlet tube, you can just use some heater hose to run to the air box. IIRC, it was 3/4" I used to replace the "Special Cold Air Duct Tape" job the PO had on there when I bought it.... If it's completely in need of total repair, I was able to fashion 2 parts together to make it work; Only works for the plastic valve covers though. Dorman PN: 5047028 (90 degree Elbow; should be labeled "Chrysler PCV Elbow" if the PN doesn't match up. I don't have the box that the elbow came in, so I'm listing the number on the part itself. ) Dorman PN: 42059 (Grommet that elbow plugs into; labeled "AMC PCV Valve Grommet") Don't know if you have an Advance Auto up there, but both parts were only $4 or $5 combined. And are both located in their "Dorman" Self-Help part of the store. -

1. Didn't know 87s came with a closed loop system. My own 87 2.5 has an open system. Should be the same procedure for a 4.0. If you do a search of "Closed System" you should find out how to "burp" the air out. Usually, you unplug the temperature sending unit (back of the block with the little wire running to it) and park the MJ on an incline to allow air to rise to the surface. Top the bottle overflow bottle off if it's getting low. Not sure if that's everything, or if that's mostly correct. :dunno: Double check to make sure though. 2. Oil on filter = Bad Thing (if it's more than a drop or two). It means you have "Blow-By" which is caused by the little plastic line on the back of the valve cover (runs from the VC to the Throttle Body) being gummed up / missing. You can replace the line with a similarly sized one. 3. Check the Haz/Stop Fuse (15 IIRC) and the Park LPS (10 IIRC). If it's not either of those, then you probably have a wiring mishap somewhere. Also, check the ground on the driver's side taillight. Should be a little wire running to the frame. Clean that up and remove the paint on the connection point so it can get a better ground. That's a cause for a lot of electrical things not working right on our rigs. 4. Just get a gallon jug of your preferred oil viscosity. Can't remember off the top of my head how much the 2.5 needs. Usually, if I'm at the ADD line, one quart will bring it up to full. :dunno: 5. 80w-90 is what my owner's manual said to put into an AX-4, so that's what I ran. There was a whole discussion on it HERE if you want to give it a read through. Has various member's opinions on what to run in the transmission, 4x4 system, and the motor. Hope this all helps  Nice to see another 2.5'er out there. :clapping: -
Will do. Will be hitting a few P&Ps with a buddy of mine in a week or so. I'll post up here if I find anything that's a match. ;) Hey Red Did you ever run into one? Thanks! Zach Can't say I did. 1st gen S10 seems to be close though. This is based off a rough estimation though of one I found that was in pretty rough shape. Wheel arch may be a tad off though. :dunno:

Fooled around with the spare money holder on the truck. Decided to swap in that nifty 242 Bezel I got and cleaned the other day. My question is, does a non 4x4 MJ have the socket to fit on the mini-console to illuminate the 4x4 controls? The cut-out is there, and there's some wires poking around, but giving them a tug didn't yield anything. Since I'm not pulling up that vinyl-jute carpeting anytime soon, I'm not going to investigate too deeply into it. I'm just curious. Would I be right in assuming it's there, since AMC had a thing for including all the sockets / wiring for everything not included on a given MJ? "A fine example of an invisible 4x4 System." :(

No sadly. One of the first things I checked. Even found a 4 speed MJ.... no 4WD though. :fs1: 4wd AX-5s are easy enough to find, and 3.55 is the most common gearing in the D30. :brows: Hopefully 87-90 21 spline 242s as well. :ack: That's what the big game's going to be next time.

Beautiful. How many hands high is she?

Underhood Insulation... Any Difference?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ignore the majority of the last post. The reason the hood wouldn't close right is because I left a pair of channel locks tucked into the nook of where the hood closes on the passenger side. :fool:  :dunce: That's what I get for trying to work on a Jeep with only 6 hours of sleep in the last 2 days. :ack: -
Underhood Insulation... Any Difference?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So, with a lot of finagling and swearing, I got the insulation in. Pretty ugly, but better than looking at bare metal I suppose. I can always go get another for $10 from the P&P though, so it's not too bad. Problem is that now I can't shut the hood. It's getting caught on the hood release cable, and I'm 95% sure that it's because of the bottom clip. A closer look reveals that it's not holding the "metal" piece in the middle. It keeps sliding over to the left (entire cable; passenger side) when I try to close the hood. The clip was already in pretty rough shape, but now it's border-line mangled. I'm assuming I should probably go pick up some someplace? I'm really not sure if anywhere sells a clip like this; as they're all push-pin style types with no "lock" on the inside of them. Any ideas of where to search? :dunno: I'm thinking the hardware store, since the auto parts places around here didn't have nearly any type of selection of these things. Had to hit up my old man at work to get the retainers. -
Picked up one of these yesterday, to put on underneath the hood. It should cover up some of the shame and grime lurking underneath. Honestly, I really should take the hood off and give it a good power washing before I put it on, but all that work... yada yada.... I know people say it's supposed to "dampen underhood fires" should one occur, but I know it's just there for sound-deadening. Honestly, is there really much of a difference in the level of sound? Also, is there any truth to the argument that if you don't have one, your paint on the hood will begin to crack and fade faster? Lastly, where can I pick up a complete set of those little hood clips? Dunno if they're the factory ones (little - sign wing ones that just pop in) but that's what I saw on most of the XJ's that had 'em. Not sure if I trust the ones I pulled out from the various Jeeps; being of various years and such.. :hmm:

86' problems with climate control and speakers
Zenobian_84 replied to E4Marty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Actually, I'll have to check that one. Still haven't gotten around to solving mine... I'll just take the easy route and say it's been laziness :D -
1988 Jeep Comanche 2.5 Litre I4 / AX-4 / 2WD / D30 / D35 / SWB Build date: Missing sticker - 1988 is the only thing known. Current Location: Daytona Beach, FL Status: Junkyard, awaiting the crusher in a few days. :( Notes: Pretty rare dark blue AMC interior. Everything inside was leftover parts from the AMC buyout. The only Chrysler parts I noted were the seatbelts missing the AMC logo. Aside from that, just your pretty standard model; bench, dummy lights, etc. Nothing really special about it. Current owner: LKQ of Daytona Beach, FL

Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Started out yesterday morning heading to the Orlando LKQ. Definitely a warm and humid start to the day. :ack: Found a decent 2.8 Camaro to ogle for a bit. Moved onto another part of the yard and found an old 60s Chevy PU. Gotta love the color :brows: Miles of un-cramped engine room. Anybody know what engine this is? I didn't think Chevy used to make I6s.. :hmm: After a bit of Jeep parts pulling from the first 2.5, we stopped for a bite to eat and then drove 50 miles to the Daytona LKQ. After a bit of walking around the GM side, we headed for the Chry-Co section. Found this little beaut. off to the side. :D 60s AWD Scout? Hmm... :dunno: No clue as to what this engine is. Other than the fact it's a I4? Couldn't get a good picture of it. And they said Jeep interiors were "spartan"... Good for the times though, I suppose. Found another 2.5 Cherokee. Had to go get a closer look... Darn it. The first one was missing the fan shroud... Wouldn't have mattered a lick anyway; the bolts were just free turning, and the PO added a few extra ones so the rad wouldn't "Fall" or something like that. You gotta love Floridians. One way to cure the "Wide Butt" MJ look, I suppose. Had a pretty good dark blue interior too. :( Checked inside the TB and there were pieces of the Injector all inside. No idea how that happened... Thought about getting some PS parts, but I decided not to. Don't have the $ for a new Steering box, or new PS components. Old or not. :fs1: Retro Non-PS wins today. :chillin: Big finds for today. Another aluminum VC and a decent Heat Shield. Got a good deal on the heat shield for only 10 clams, 20 for the VC. Last decent finds for today, 242 / 231 4WD bezels. 4WD is getting there, slowly but surely. The rest of the stuff I picked up are just little things; emblems, buckles, 97+ cherokee sockets... and a few other things. Not a bad haul for $50 all together. -
The Jeep gods must be happy with what I'm doing with my MJ, because I was graced with not just one 2.5 Cherokee to pull parts from, but 3. The third was unfortunately from another MJ. :( Had a pretty good haul today. Pics tomorrow though of all the goodies. Couldnt find a nice looking chrome bumper though :fs1: that much I'll say for now. Its nice to actually get a good haul of things you need verses things you overspent on; just because you wanted em. :chillin: Also, for anyone thinking that finding 3 2.5s to pull parts from in a junkyard isnt a big deal, it is. These engines are virtually non-existant in FL. Believe me, I've spent months searching for just one down here with no results…

Going to be looking for a chrome front bumper tomorrow when I hit up the P&P, and was just wondering what the size of the Torx bit needed to remove the 3 screws on the bumper is. Seems like it'd be a T-50 or possibly bigger? :dunno: :hmm: Are there any other screws I'll have to take off to remove the bumper? My brackets are still in decent shape, and I've heard that leaving the brackets on the Unibody is a much better idea than trying to remove those with the bumper still attached.... If I can find a good bumper and remove it, I'll replace the screws with something else. Torx bit screws are the bain of my existance :fs1:

This is probably asking a lot, but does anyone know the color types of door panels WITH map pockets (see bottom pic.) offered by both AMC and Chrysler for the MJ / XJ ? I'm mainly looking for the types of colors here, as I want something that won't clash with the AMC Blue interior. I'm not 100% sure, but didn't they offer basically every color and the buyer could add a map pocket onto it if they wanted? I've been giving a lot of thought to creating another door panel with a "basterdized" map pocket added at the bottom. Mostly, because I want extra space to put stuff in, and to replace these giant honkin' 6.5 speakers in the doors with factory spec'd ones. Luckily, the chrome strip in the middle is screwed onto the panel, and the bottom part is just carpet padding with a speaker cutout. Definitely the ONLY one I've seen that's setup this way, to MY knowledge. I was going to find one that looks like this, and cut it a few inches above the carpet line, and tuck it under the blue vinyl of my own panel. BAM, instant map pocket 80s goodness :chillin:

So, you the guy that buys MJs? Guess so; from the looks of it. Looks like a good parts rig. Shame you can't find deals like that out East here without driving 400 miles + both ways. The more I see those mirrors, the more I take a fancy'in to 'em. Good job  :brows:

Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Gearing up for my early run to the P&Ps tomorrow morning. Hopefully the weather will cooperate as well. Decided to work on some side projects today I've been putting off for a while, seeing as how it's been looking like this since about 12. Makes me wish I was in the country-side of OK, or the panhandle of TX chasing storms instead of living here in FL. -
Thought I had a few pictures of these floating around on this thread, but I guess not. Some very not-so-recent finds from earlier this year. Legend of Zelda / Super Mario Bros. thermos from '89. Doesn't look like it's been used or even cleaned for that matter since it was shipped out. Some kid won it in a Nintendo Power giveaway to promote both of the games, or probably Nintendo in general. They don't make 'em like they used to. :chillin: I was lucky to find it when I did. So I collect a lot of VG stuff; what can I say? Other than a few specs on it, the thermos is in relatively pristine shape, not bad for a $20 snag. I got this along with it. Matching lunchbox. Upon closer inspection... :D Maybe one day I'll post some more pictures of all my other VG-related swag... Maybe. :brows:
