  1. Just thought I'd post up some neat finds (for me anyway) while "picking" at my local Flea Market. Liger Zero model. Doubt anyone used to watch that old "Zoids" cartoon back in the early 2000s, but that's what it's from. Got this at a steal. Just some Frampton. This album is sort of a running joke between a friend of mine and myself, long story. One of the places I usually visit when I go; for obvious reasons, you can see why. :smart: :D It's a lot bigger than that, and there's way more stuff hidden around, but that's all the photos I could get of it before people started walking around. You can see the Liger I picked up sitting on the corner of the top shelf. This place is also conveniently located across from a classic video game store. :brows: Gets loud @ the 3:00-3:15 mark, so turn your speakers down before you cringe in pain. :ack: k_DmeOa-NjI
  2. Happened to stumble on this thread by accident. Gotta read the last 23 pages  334
  3. I would totally do a 360. They have the exact same external dimensions so you get 54 cubic inches for free. In stock form in any given year a 360 would get you 50-75 more horsepower and up to a 100 more foot pounds of torque than a 304 for the same buy-in cost. For me they are easier to find as well. Everybody does a SBC becuase they are cheap and easy... I hope they don't chose their wimmin by the same criteria.. :D The front distributor engines like the AMC or a SBF are often much easier to install because you can put the engine closer to the firewall. ( The 401 is a great motor and the same external size as the others but they are getting very pricey and you could easily match the stock 401 numbers by bolting performance goodies on the 360 and still be a ton of money ahead) Although the horsepower ratings for the last couple of years of 304 were 130-ish your reasoning that the low HP rating makes it and the 150 equal falls into the age old trap of forgetting both torque numbers and power band. During its worst years the 304 had considerably more torque (220) than your I4's 130 foot pounds. As people only seem to understand horsepower numbers: would you consider a 130hp & a 220hp engine equal? Of course not. So why do you think a 130 ft/# engine is remotely the equal of a 220 ft/# engine? The 304 produced its peak numbers at a lower rpm as well so that it would be a much better engine in the real world. Horsepower is not the be-all and end-all of power ratings and IMHO is best used only for bragging rights. My '93 Dodge CTD only had 160 horsepower...do you really think that a 160 HP I4 could compete with it? Would a 160 HP Accord I4 even MOVE my CTD dually let alone tow a 12K trailer as well? Of course it would, they are both 160 horsepower.... :D The same principal applies to the 150 and even the worst years of 304. Sorry for the :hijack: But... I totally understand that Torque will trump Horsepower ANY day of the week. That's why when I've been looking into the minute amount of additions to my 150, I look at what kind of Torque increase I'll gain, rather than horsepower. I was simply stating why most people frown upon the 304 and call it a $#!& motor. By no means is the 304 a cruddy motor like most people assume it is, based on CI size and horsepower outputs past '75; it served its purpose for what it was put in, and although it wasn't a beast like the 401, it was good for what it was.. It performed well enough in the CJs, and was relatively all around good motor. I just read about everyone trying to get rid of their 304 for a good 360, and it seems like such a waste of potential to me. My reasoning behind the 304 against the 360, is that everyone does a 360; and yes, there's good reason for it (way more 360s left than 304s) but I'd rather be an oddball. If that makes any sense. I doubt I would put the 304 or the 360 into the MJ; but I always wanted to rebuild an old engine, and what better than one made by AMC? Now if I could get my hands on a decent, EARLY Gen III TD 401... I'd have to reconsider dropping it into the MJ. :wrench: ;)
  4. Hopefully I'm done with that dern paintin' for a while. :ack:  On the truck and it's related accessories at least... :chillin:
  5. Y'know, I was seriously thinking about this same question at work tonight (today? :dunno:). Although, it wasn't a Chebby motor I was thinking of putting in; it was an early model AMC 304. I was mostly thinking about getting my grubby hands on a 304 and using it to tear down and rebuild in preparation for going to school next year.... but y'know. I think the 4 pistons already there in my truck could use another 4 sisters; if you catch my drift. :brows: My only beef with the 304 is that the later models could barely keep up with my own 150. What a shame emissions crap will do to an engine...
  6. And I just got a new replacement rad a few months ago that has a plastic filler neck . :(
  7. So... what did you do? Rob Am also very curious about this. Everybody knows better than to seriously mess with my MJ. Everyone I know pokes fun at it on occasion but that kind of stuff has never bothered me. I guess no one ever messes with it because they're too afraid of a 6'4 235lb 19 year old getting out of the cab. Being tall and in good physical shape is a natural deterrent y'know.
  8. Ah, I see what you mean now. I should know better than to forum surf right after a 9 hour shift at work :ack: Especially when I haven't had a decent sleep in days. Can't say I've made too much progress. I'm aiming to have some physical progress by the time I go back to work next week. If only I had a welder, all this waiting and planning wouldn't be necessary.
  9. Not really sure how I can make a cell-phone (with a pretty iffy at most video camera) "Less Jerky". It is what it is man. As for the panning out, there's nothing I can do about that either; unless I slow down my overall speed immensely; increasing the overall video time. Not trying to be a debby downer here, or get on your case (so please don't take it as such) but I don't exactly have the best stuff to work with here. It's just what it is man. I'll try fiddling with some things and see if the next one is any better. If not, I may just leave the videos for important stuff. I'm not too sure right now what exactly I want to do. Will probably wait til the weekend if not later to get everything sorted out.
  10. Got my parking light problems sorted out finally. Those Cherokee sockets are a good upgrade over the old ones. And just because; another vid. :chillin: hZa6DYb9tkc
  11. $99 for a regular replacement through Rock Auto IIRC. I got a GM one at a discount for $72 shipped. Has been working great since I replaced it.
  12. I'd probably be up for 5 if they're under $2. I could definitely use some coozies. :brows:
  13. You would be correct on that Skidoo. I took another look at the passenger side and, as fate would have it, the other horn is MIA and my guess is that it's the Low tone horn (before I swapped wheels, the horn still on there had that high, whiney tone :ack:) Good thing I picked up 2 spare horns then. Oh well, I had to remove the front header panel anyway to clean up some of that headlight wiring the PO did. I'll post back if I can get everything working. One last question: Does the wire running to the column have constant power running to it? Just so I can know which to splice into to run it to the toggle switch on the dash.
  14. Apologies in advance for the crappy sound-quality my phone delivers. :ack: Decided to make a video of my question instead of the long-winded speeches I usually do. Relates to the horn; I also didn't mention in the video that if needed, I can cut into the wires to find out which is the hot one / negative one. I don't really want (Read: Like) to do it that way though, but If I have to, I probably will. :ack: Thanks. uCrymMpV0UQ
  15. You can make the full-size pickup guys crane their necks at your truck as you roll past. True story. Even had 4 different kids offer trades for my pickup within the last 2 months. :chillin:
  16. Yeah, I got it straightened out after deciding not to use the XJ head unit I picked up. Works pretty well, but I'm looking into picking up a few speaker brackets to use the rear speakers as well. :wrench:
  17. Decided to mess around with that dern phone camera. Was going to do another video, but it started raining :ack: tGYQp8c6ywY
  18. Wait, Bronco Dan's place off 19? I think I've been there before. It's surrounded by the woods right; with some young kids most of the time there? If it's the place I'm thinking of, you can have that bed-liner; those kids think that they have $100,000 cars there, and that everyone is a complete sucker. I managed to show up most of the guys working there about their knowledge of cars. Wasn't impressed the last time I was there, and have never bothered to go back.
  19. Decided to stop fiddling with the column horn wiring and go the easy route by wiring it to a swtch. Are the OEM 84-96 toggle switches the same setup? IE: If I have the ground on the top prong of the button, and the constant power on the bottom, can I swap them at any given time and still have a working horn? Or does each prong have a specific function? I got Don's fog-light wiring guide a while back, but that didn't show me what I needed to know about the switch itself. Thanks :wrench:
  20. Finally finished the other door panel. Now I finally have a 100% matching interior. Decided to clean up the old cassette tape holders I had sitting around. After 3 coats of of flat black interior spray (same stuff I used on the door panels). Definitely helped give them a new look. Painted the holding clips too. Gave the backside of the bottom one another coat after I noticed the spotty coverage. Cleaned up both of the old valve covers. The plastic one is going to be painted and put on a glass shelf inside the SGC I'm working on. Not sure what I'm going to do with the spare aluminum one as of right now though.
  21. Finally got the backside primed and painted. Color seems to be a bit off in the picture. It's just a tad darker IRL; but it's close enough. Depending on how the weather plays out in the next hour or so determines whether I put a 3rd coat on today. I have an erratic schedule with work this week, so I'm not going to be doing anything with it again until the weekend. :ack: Also, this gun attachment is awesome. Makes it easier to get a better spray than using the old arm method. Just cleaning up a front license plate I picked off an '85 Z28 the other day. One of the only 2 generations of Camaros I like (1st / 3rd) Should look pretty good on here. :brows:
  22. Picked up 3 of these bad boys from my last trip to the JY to replace my rusty, crusty, and all around not working, 25 year old sockets. I can only assume the "Minor" wire (brown, middle) is the switched power; and "Major" (green) is constant power? If so, what are the equivalent wires to hook into on the MJ? Just so I get 'em in and go on with life.
  23. Finally got tired of procrastinating. Accomplished a lot of different things today. :wrench: One of the few things was finishing the other door panel. Now I finally have a 100% matching interior.
  24. Hmm... Will look into that. Not a bad idea, but they might be too small for what I'd like to do. We'll see though. Also, going back to rework the Tornado completely. Don't like how it looks at all. Will probably also rework the weather sensors as well. Seems more like "Snowy" than anything... :dunno: :fs2:
  25. Decided to start doing some of the custom graphics found on the drum. Still a work in progress. Should only take another hour or so to finish it all up. It can wait for another day. Got a lot of projects going on right now. Based off this one from the movie. Still trying to source a drum, and I've been procrastinating on the sensor balls. Should have a prototype weather ball done by next weekend hopefully. I want to start getting this project off the ground; :wrench: or at the very least, everything sourced and diagramed by the end of the month. If I can get the electronic junk sorted out, and the weather ballasts / anemometers finished, I'll be in good shape. It's hard to work on something this time consuming when you're trying to juggle work, and day to day outings / projects. :ack:
