Congrats! Don't forget to wrench with him when he gets old enough. Some of my best memories are from times like that with my Dad. Can't wait to get home this summer and do it some more...

Good rule of thumb is that if you can break even on a car, you did good. :D It won't be long though and you'll be bitten by the bug again and go out and buy another one. Let us know how long you can last without having withdrawls... ;)

I got the rockers on mine sprayed at the body shop before I shot paint last summer. I don't know the name of the stuff but he told me that it was a rocker panel product. I got it color matched to the paint so that if I ever chipped the paint (I painted over it) it would be disguised... I'm VERY happy with it so far!

I've been thinking about putting one on mine and then putting a set of discos on it too. I bought some used YJ ones a month or so ago and I'll modify them to put them on the frontend. I could make a set for the rear. "Its one of those, if I get bored I might try it" projects. I would be really interested in hearing what other people say about them and if anyone else has installed one... A while back there was a MJ featured in JP. It was the one for the Currie Ent. Shop. They had one on the rear of that...

Will 88 Cherokee Flares fit 88 Comanche
500 MJ replied to Luvtohunt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I welded new machine screws on the strips when all of mine broke off. Simply drilled out the old ones and welded in new ones. Its the best way to go in my opinion, it sure is easy to put them on and take them off this way and you still can use the inner black liner from the factory. I also dabbed a big gob of industrial valve grease on each stud. That stuff is really really sticky and its helping to keep the studs from rusting back up... ...just my $.02 -
Will 88 Cherokee Flares fit 88 Comanche
500 MJ replied to Luvtohunt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Front flares will fit no problem. Back flares are completely different. You can make them work but they won't bolt right up... A good rule of thumb is that everything before the rear edge of the door on a 4 door cherokee will work on a Comanche. There are some differences in the floor panels however that don't follow this rule but for the most part it is a good one to go by... -
X2. My LUV did that too and it was high tech for having the high beam switch included on the turn signal lever. Most old cars had them on the floorboards...

Chocolate Laxative. It makes them literally crap themselves to death. Thats how we do it in Michigan. Only bad part is if they are living under your house, you have to go clean them out once they are dead and due to the massive amounts of poo, its not a fun job...

The Good Lord smiled down on me today and gave me a sight I'll never forget in Finland... I was walking back from the grocery store and saw this: I'm keeping a tally of how many Jeep products I see while I am here. This is #31, the first and only MJ so far. There is an overwhelming majority of Grand Cherokees over here which I find kinda different cause in the states I see way more XJ's than anything else. I also have seen a few wranglers and I also saw a restored MB on the streets today when I was down town. I didnt have a pen and paper on me but I was glad I had my camera. I ran home to get a pen and paper to write "www.comancheclub.com" on it and stuff it under the wiper blade but by the time I got back to my apartment I heard him start it up, burn out and take back off headed for the freeway. The aparment complex we are staying in is in the background of this pic and my room has a balcony on it so I was able to watch him lay some rubber on the gas station parking lot. I don't know why, but Finnish people seem to rev their engines and burn out ALOT... Anyway, it made my day! ;) Thought it would make you Guys' day too...

At the least, it is good to pull the seats out of for the seat frames. 4 dr XJ ones don't fold forward. Those are the kind that I used and its a major pain to get things out from behind the seat because they don't fold. The 2 dr ones are something that is very handy when you only have a truck cab to put them in...

Yah, I like it - ALOT! http://jeepspace.jeepforum.com/FiveHundredMJ

Wow, sorry I never responded to your post... I used a Clayton Long Arm kit on my truck. It was made for a XJ so I had to Cut the arms down a little bit to allow them to fit on my MJ. I don't know why but they were too long and I needed to shorten them up a smudge. Its a good setup, it incorporates the crossmember into the new bracket for the lower control arms. Pretty slick setup considering that it can all be unbolted easily to allow the trans to be pulled... I got mine USED for a few years for $300 from a friend, I had to put about $150 into it for new rubber bushings and a whole new arm for the upper passenger side. You can buy just parts from Clayton, at least they let me do it last summer... you might try that... just make sure they will work with your kit... Again, sorry it took so long, good luck...

mini beast Project: Stock To Beast!!!
500 MJ replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Don't you hate not having 4wd? I would be getting that sucker finished off ASAP! If you wanna go wheeling I'd be up for it but you gotta get that 4wd working 'fore we head out. Got any places in mind down in your neck of the woods to go to? -
:D I think he is talking about this...

1985 Comanche project from Finland, Europe
500 MJ replied to A-V's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Hyvää Päivää! I'm over in Finland right now studying overseas. I'll be here until June 17th in Tampere. What would you suggest that I go see while I'm here? - Brent (-$500 MJ) -
I'll be traveling to Roveneimi this weekend. I'm afraid thats the closest I'll be getting to Norway. Its a far drive from here to get there and I will be traveling in a group so I don't have the ability to take the car and drive around on my own... I am getting lots of pics for sure...

Well, I've been over here for a week now and I have very limited Internet access but the trip is going great. So far I have seen 21 Jeeps in Finland, but not a single MJ. Next weekend we will hopefully be heading up North and we'll see what I can see then up in the farm country... Hope all is well back in the states - TTYL

Project: The Duke - 56K warning - NEW PARTS 8/04

Truck looks good! Do the fender flares rub on the tires though? -
That Truck Looks Great! But your grille is upside down

Well, A pulling of the trans reveiled the problem. I took it all apart and the syncros are shot. No problems with the gears or anything else that I could see... So onto the next phase: I almost forgot I had a spare one of these trannies back home. I'll be forgoeing the expensive rebuild of this old one and installing my spare AX-15 this week once I get it from downstate. I will be scrapping the junk one, anyone need any parts from it? I don't have access to a press though so if you want a gear, you'll get the whole shaft. Also, does anyone have a schematic of the AX-15 posted on the net, It would be handy to have one of these for future reference. When I put the new trans in, what do I fill it back up with? I've heard that these run on gear lube but I want to make sure...

And look at that, not a spec of rust on that thing - you are so lucky, you don't even know...

Removing Comanche Cab
500 MJ replied to Crassis-Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Its all one piece, the rear subframe and the cab. You can take the bed off of the rear subframe by unbolting it with the 8 bolts on the bottom of the box. To get the cab off, I would use a sawzall. The subframe is thinner than you would think it is and a sawzall can handle the job easily. Also, if the rocker panels or cab corners of the cab are in good shape, it might be your best interest to save them. Lots of people on here need them from time to time and you could probably get some money from them farther down the road. Other people with Cherokees like to hack up the back of a comanche cab and make a "cheromanche" out of their rig with the sheet metal from the comanche. If you know anyone who owns a cherokee, see if they would be interested in this section of the cab before you trash it - its another potential money maker... Good luck + Have Fun!
