Solid tierod and move on. Or https://www.stinkyfab.com/collections/xj-steering/products/premium-1-ton-steering-kits-jeep-xj-mj-tj-zj

Stinkyfab or ironman4x4 are you're best bet IMHO. IRO makes a decent kit for the money. I have a cavfab on the MJ but was on there from before and I haven't wheeled on it. Sucks it's only the 1 piece cross member and the upper bolt interferes with the gas lines. Dirtbound, core few others have kits too. If you're up to it you could fab up something especially if you link the rear.

The comanche is going 4 wheel drive
Smokeyyank replied to Chriscross's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah agree with gogmorgo. Look for 98-99 axles. Rest are a waste to swap IMHO. -

My WJ, although after it taking dump and me being sick of working on a daily I'l probably get a civic or scion xB soon. Need something with 4 doors I don't have to work on as much as a jeep......

I don't have a picture but this is from Limejeepers build. Basically there is no seal around it and there is a slight gap about 1/4 in between it and the body. It just doesn't sit flush. You'd have to put a bead of silicone around it to prevent water from just sitting. I did have a temporary one piece window in there but preferred the slider because that was the only way to get some airflow in that hot box of a cab.

If you've thought about moving your airbox...
Smokeyyank replied to Big Dan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just wondering how much you ended up spending on this? I'm was looking at a THOR intake for the MJ because I need to relocate the airbox when I dove nose it. -
Yep, issues was the seal for the slider didn't work for the single piece. It was just a tad too big and created just enough of a gap between the glass and body to not seat properly. I also knew eventually I wanted a slider back so didnt load up gobs of urethane.

I had to replace my rear window, it was a mess and I ended up paying someone to reinstall. Here's what I learned. -You need to remove your headliner and other trim pieces. I used the tool pete mentioned and it cut it up. It's pretty much impossible to not jack up the headliner. -Removing the seal is best done after it's been baking in the sun to make it more pliable. Take your time and go slow. New seals are pretty much non existent -Install, I tried to do the urethane but didn't work. I did it with a 1 piece because I could not find another slider. Well the window fell out and was a b*@ch to deal with the urethane. I ended up finding a slider and paid someone to install it. Removal wasn't bad install was a B.

Yes but no. I sold the red MJ to Trent only because I picked up meanlemons project MJ. The red one was just too nice to go beat on. This one will work out better for making a truggy. Need to get it running and finish a few things. Already has D44s, ax15, arbs and 33s. Will beat on it for a bit before really tearing into it.

Cherokee parts to Comanche parts
Smokeyyank replied to 92comanche92's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Best year to source axles are from a 98-99. You'll get a HP30 with the 297 u-joints and 8.25 with 29 spline shafts. If you can find a XJ with a 2.5 chance are it will have 4.10s in there. If doing a 2wd-->4wd conversion you'll need to get a tranny from a different year depending if you have a 5 speed or auto. 5 speed AX15 is the best option but little harder to find. If auto aw4 but you'll to stick with specific years because of the PCM. -
Just a damn shame.....

1989 Jeep Comanche (CO)
Smokeyyank replied to RAFA2009's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I posted that POS a while back on here. Saw it on FBmarketplace. -
Another vote for the Thrush. Ran it on my XJ and will put it on my MJ. Was decently priced and sounded good.

Need your input on making more Comanche racing posters
Smokeyyank replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
I'm personally a fan of big and awesome. But I know that makes it more expensive. Now an entirely different thought but what I would think would be awesome, Silkscreened posters. Could also get a few ts and sweatshirts as well but I know it would require a big enough order. Unless someone's got a diy set up. I'd be willing to pay more for a silkscreen pri t versus somehing just run off. Plus it would be unique and one of a kind. -
Atlas 2 or D300 doubler?
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Never even thought about that part but thanks for mentioning it. It already has the booster upgrade and new brakes, but I'm not really sure how much of a caliper upgrade the Waggy 44 is over a 30. -
Atlas 2 or D300 doubler?
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Currently it's non running, still need to finish up what Neal was working on. I don't think they'll be any vibes, it's only at 3.5" but never know. -
Atlas 2 or D300 doubler?
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cool good to know. I'd consider a rubi case if it was cheaper. Looking now and most are around $1500+. Other thought that just popped in was doing a hack n tap for the 242. Pretty sure I can just use this https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/product/hack-n-tap-slip-yoke-eliminator-kit.html and solve the dilemma. Just don't want to spend on a ton on a short term solution. -
Atlas 2 or D300 doubler?
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I may just keep saving my pennies until I can get a four speed atlas. I have the d300 and can run that since it would about the same cost to get a sye for the 242. -
Couldn't justify keeping two MJs. The red one was a decently clean one and couldn't bring myself to chopping it up to do what I wanted. New one is fairly well built to start and I can beat on it with out worry.
