Thank you for the offer. I think you have sold me on this. Especially the leg room department. I know with the stock bench it feels like i'm sitting on the floor with no angle of my legs at all. I'll reach out when I get started. I think i'm gonna start hitting pick and pulls this weekend and see what I can come up with seat wise.

Looks good, it doesn't seem very hard just time consuming. I think you have sold me on just fabbing brackets. My one question for you, is how is your head room when your sitting in the truck? I'm 6"2' and am worried about hitting my head. I've read every thread now and some people say it's ok, others say it's a issue. I wish you were closer so I could sit in yours.

Junkyarding today. Needs/ideas?
Lthompson741 replied to coolwind57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It doesn't look to complicated, thats the one thing I didn't like about the dakota seats is how the center seat is up higher. Although I would mainly be using the center seat as an armrest folded down and the upholders. The only time it would be up would be for my dogs. It looks doable and I've thought about stripping my bench off its current brackets, and stripping the dakota bench the same way and seeing what all needs to be done to make it work. I don't see it being more then a couple of tabs added in my mind. But i've never had a dakota seat in my possession. -
Yeah, your busy already. The repair shop here is slammed as well. I hope everyone starting to put money into this planes means we will get some more activity here. A lot of hanger queens here lately and not much traffic at all.

Yeah I've been following the Graywolf thread too and waiting to see what they come up with. I'm not in a huge hurry and like you I have more ideas then money. -
Rusty and Boring 1987 Sportruck getting fixed

Not a bad price with the plow. I've bought two jeeps with plows now (both CJs) and sold the plows making them pretty much free jeeps. If your gonna use it to plow it not a bad price at all. -
Please keep updating this thread. Also in the small aircraft business, (i'm in charge of operations at a small GA airport, and detail airplanes on the side). Its neat to see other people that work in the business and how their hangers and airports are set up. I scoured your pics to see what was going on in the background.

Rusty and Boring 1987 Sportruck getting fixed

Nice MJ. Its nice to see someone start off with a rusted one as well. I'm in Chicagoland and the one I bought is about in the same shape as yours. I haven't done really anything to mine other then the injector upgrade, alt, battery and fuel tank/sending unit. I also need a windshield and a crap ton of cleaning before mine can be driven. It makes me jealous following builds where the jeep looks like it just came off the show room floor. How much did you give for it if you don't mind me asking? Looking it over I'm excited to see it cleaned up to an extent. When I look at mine I can't wait to just wax it and see if there is any shine left to the paint. I love that color, looking for a a 2door XJ that color. BTW when I changed my injectors, they were varnished closed and made a heck of a difference. I also somehow killed the o-ring in the fuel pressure regulator in the process. I'd suggest picking one up cause your probably gonna knock it around changing everything out. -

I really need to find a junk yard that actually has a dakota in it that isn't burned, or stripped already. The seats are the one upgrade I want to do. What are you going to do for brackets? -
Nice truck, especially for the price. I guess I should of looked at new/ year old models on the lot. Just bought a newer used truck as the new ones were way out of the price range. Hell the one I bought still is. My busy has a 2016 non dually and he loves it.

I went thru a hail claim about 3 years ago. If you had golf ball sized hail I'm willing to bet you have damage. I thought the same thing, no damage that I could see. Then all my neighbors started getting new roofs so I decided to call and have my adjuster come out. All in all, they replaced the shingles on my home, shed and shop. All aluminum wraps around the windows, and siding on each building that faced west. Make sure you check it out throughly, or have someone you trust go up there. With the storm coming thru it is no secret you got hail and be prepared for the storm chasers to start hounding you on the phone in person and in the mail. They know your insurance company will pay out with little to no evidence and will do everything they can to get you to ok them looking around. The total claim for my damage was around 30K which included my golf balled super duty dent repair as well. It has been three years but I and still finding things that were damaged. New holes in the siding on other sides of the building that were missed, dented grill, dented random crap that was next to the garage, etc. glad you made it thru safe.

Looks like the radiator is for a closed system..... I'd convert to an open cooling system if your going to change the radiator. I was in the same boat radiator wise and found a the open style radiators were cheaper then the closed style. -
Looks a lot better with just a bath!! Look forward to updates.

Looks Good. I live in the US salt belt and park my Jeep toys because of the salt. My daily F250 gets a wash at least once a week with undercarriage. I know all about the small fortune. My last F250 rotted out very quickly...so hopefully I can stay on top of the rust with this one.- 53 replies

here's a pic. It appears to be a piece of aluminium. I am a HAM so I'm gonna swap the cb antenna for a Ham antenna and mount a radio some where. -

I don't think its an adapter, i wanna say it's a piece of aluminum. The PO had the two lights and a CB antenna up there. I'll get some better pics tonight. It is optioned well, I gotta see if Jeep can give me a build sheet on it. - Roll Bar - Factory Tow Hooks - Matching Spare rim - It had a tailer package on it, but the PO cut it off for some reason. The brackets are still there. - A/C - Factory Front Fog Lights - The Turbine Wheels By far my favorite as well. -

Cool, I looked over your pics pretty good and almost thought they still looked factory in the rear. Your fronts look very good tho. I figured if you were able to retain the rear factory look I had to ask how. -

Looks good. Very functional and not over done. Do you have any more pics of how you cut and mounted your rear fender flares? Or is their a write up somewhere? My bedsides are a little rotten on both sides and am wondering if I can cut it out and still retain the factory look like yours. -

I like it. I wonder if the tailgate opens. It looks like it would be a possibility. He left the handle at least.
