  1. Funny story, okay to me at least..... I've been driving my wheeling XJ to work all summer. Doorless, 3.5" lift 'slightly' trimmed fenders 33" MT's, all the necessary accesories. I've had people in all kinds of vehicles wave to me.... From other modifed Jeeps to lowly ChyCo Baby-buses. I wave back to all of them(I'm orignally from farm country, and that's what you do). I even had the flag girls that are part of the road crew stop me and talk to me about the Jeep. Heck, I get it when I stop at the grocery store on the way home. There is one guy in a Liberty, that just about crashed the first time he saw me, trying to wave. But with the colder weather and my wife's pregnancy, I've been driving the ZJ to work again. It was her daily driver, so its on 235's, no lift, nice cushy interior(a working heater). Now noone waves at me, and I have been waving at people, looking like a complete idiot. Heck, even the Liberty guy doesn't wave at me.
  2. Go pick it up. Down I-43 to 90 to 39 down to 80. JC Whitney is right off 39/80 in LaSalle.
  3. I enjoy a $10 grinder, or $5 set of ball peen hammers as the next guy. But fuses?? That seem to be over the limit......
  4. That's the right look, but at only 60" you would end up with a seam on the box side. But a call to them may yield a longer piece....
  5. Depends on if you were on a first name basis with the turkey first. Self-raised turkey is 11-nty billion times better than free-bird.
  6. I wanted to do a 'Wagoneer' MJ. The only place I found with woody material was BJ's Offroad. It technically a kit for the full-size Jeep. But if my measurements were right, You should be able to do a LWB MJ with it.
  7. It works on decal style pinstripes, not the painted kind.
  8. No, it connects to the intake almost where the fuel line goes into the fuel pressure regulator. I have a 90* rubber fitting thats plugged with a bolt between the tps and another 3 way vacuum port. I assumed that was the one the back line plugged into. . I dropped by advanced and had them look it up but they didnt carry the rear or front ccv value. Where the big vacuum line connector is at. There is a port that is in the bend of the intake manifold right there. The port sticks up towards the hood, that is where the line from the CCV(Rear) goes.
  9. No, it connects to the intake almost where the fuel line goes into the fuel pressure regulator.
  10. I've been by there about 10,000 times when I was working there. But the airlines never want to let me smuggle MJ pieces home in my luggage. Now the company moved to a place worse than Fontana(I didn't think that was possible), Bloomington......
  11. No, a Geo Metro isn't fun..... I'm one of the 4 dumbasses that actually bought one new off the lot. What a piece of crap they were. But I did actually average about 57 miles to a gallon on the highway.(I paid $5100 cash for it) And with the Suzuki motor, parts were worth more than the car was. I bought the parts to do a valve job, and it cost me $600. ON A THREE CLYINDER MOTOR. :headpop: (we need a 'buttream' smiley) A 2.5l is damn reliable, and with the (probably) 4.10 gears it out to be able to get out of its own way, when its empty. You just need to keep the desire to add big tires and a ton of bumpers, rollbars, fog lights, tools, etc. to it under control. Adding extra weight to the truck is going to be your downfall powerwise.
  12. The list you have matches the 1986 and 1988 FSM's except for a couple of differences(missing) in 1986. Engine Type: U - 2.46Liter(150 Cu. In.) I4-1V Carburetor (Gasoline) (In 1986 only, called GVWR in 88) Trim Package: 7 - X 8 - XL 9 - XLS G - X (Metric Ton) H - XL(Metric Ton) J - XLS(Metric Ton) Powertrain B= Auto Floor Shift Part Time 4wd C= Auto Floor Shift Full Time 4wd D= Auto Floor Shift 2wd A= Auto column Shift 2wd
  13. There is no real reason to run different sizes IMHO. IIRC stock is 225/75/15 but mine (and every "stock" one I've seen) came with 235/75/15. The real difference between those sizes is minuscule, and both will easily fit on the stock rim. Ever own an 'old-fashion street rod, or a drag car? There some good reasons why to run different sizes, but just not in this case. I can usually find 235/75/15 cheaper than a 225 or a 215. The size difference between a 235 and 225 is very easy to figure out. The 235 is 10mm or 1 cm wider, and 15mm taller(7.5mm per 'side'). For metric tire sizes: P = passenger car, LT = light truck. First number is width in MM, second number is aspect ratio of the sidewall, and the third is rim size. an R before rim size is Radial So... P235/75R15 Passenger car rated, 235mm wide, 75% of the width, Radial for a 15 inch rim. Or ~9-1/2 inches wide, ~29 inches tall, for a 15 inch rim. Now English(American) tires sizes its all in inches. 33x12.50x15 ~33 inches tall, ~12 1/2 inches wide, for a 15 inch rim. 235/75/15's fit very nicely on factory rims, IMHO
  14. Reason # 47 billion, That I'm glad I live on the RIGHT side of the Cheddar Curtain. :D No emissions testing as long as I'm smart enough not to live close to Chicago or St. Looney
  15. Yes. Mine is the same thing. Base model but was custom ordered. I actually have the order sheets, build sheets, and the original worksheets the OO did when figuring out what he wanted to order.
  16. HaHa "Mad German Wife" Glad I wasn't on the other side of that conversation!!! Thanks for the heads-up! Surfing around and found a whole slew of tid bits http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PDFs/index.html Hey, she swears at me in german when she is really angry. Yet, she has never lived in Germany. I just yell back in spanish(my staff has taught me enough) and it really sounds hysterical.
  17. Pete, you have been around the block enough times to learn never say never where Jeep management was involved.
  18. With RockAuto always order WEEKS ahead of when you are going to do the project. They have a nasty habit of shipping the wrong part, and fighting you on getting it returned and the correct one out. I had several miserable experiences with them. The worst was I ordered a fuel pump for my MJ. They sent me an auto tranny kickdown cable. Tried to tell me it was what I ordered. Refused to refund my money or resend the the pump until the cable had been returned. I unleashed the 'mad german wife' on them. Finally gotten it straight, but there was a CSR with a very red ear.

    xj hotrod

If you have to ask why, then you probably don't realize just how long the winters are up there. :D  haha, i think it looks pretty decent, definately different, i hope he's running a 350 with straight pipes and a front bench seat with custom dash or something that would make it a true hot-rod just like they used to do it... only other thing would be to lower the roof down 3-4 inches and make the front windshield real short x2 ..... Except lose the Chevy motor, just say no to Chevy swaps... Use something more interesting. Say, a 401!
  20. I do like them. Very cool looking from an era when vehicles were getting 'cookie cutter' looking. But I grew up riding in the back seat of a Hornet Sport Wagon.....
  21. I'm doing it on my white long box. But the wood is going to be higher like the XJ Wagoneer. I just need to pick up the woody kit from BJ's Off-Road. So I like it, maybe not in black so much, though.
  22. The Metric Ton / Big Ton models. Or are they considered packages under the others. :dunno: Metric Tonne was a package that was available. As far as available on all, I don't know either. The two I have laid eyes on, one was a Pioneer and the other is my base model/custom order.
  23. SOOO true!! AHAHAHA  Ohh man I've got to pay the photo host bill. I put up the photo of the one I have in the middle of a carrier(right through the spider gears). Jammed it in there to hold the carrier while I popped off the pinion nut. And I use rough service bulbs, The only one I've ever managed to blow out was my fault. I managed to stick the wire welding on the bulb right after 'stackin some dimes'.
  24. AMC 20 axle was not available in the XJ. There is a raised roof XJ that makes apperances on EBAY every once in awhile. Some conversion company apparently made some. There may be a pic on XJDB.
  25. forgot to PAY   who do you USE they must treat you REALLLLY nice, cause photobucket is free. and i've never had an issue in ~3 years Its Picture Trail, but we have the super duper account. My wife and her sisters swap photos of kids and stuff. They have probably 2000 pictures of the kids on there. I get a small portion of the space, but I get to pay for it. And its listed as the off-road package on the window sticker, and in the contract. But I did forget that it included tow hooks. Front and rear tow hooks. I have the front(they are the same as the XJ ones), But I believe that the rears were probably lost when the rear bumper was lost.
