  1. I'm curious. I have three vehicles which will need paint at some point within the next couple of years. I can spray frames and axels all day long and make them look great with my 80 gallon compressor and a cheap HVLP gun, but have no confidence in my ability or equipment to do any exterior panels at any acceptable level. I think you were in my spot until you got a much better paint gun, right?
  2. Just purchased a 1992 Base 2WD last weekend. Drove it 100 miles home to York, PA from Queenstown, MD. The brakes were very soft. This is what the LSV (load sensing valve, attached to the driver's side of the D35 read) looks like: I just want to confirm, with it like this, there is basically little to no rear brake pressure. I am almost positive that is correct, and the soft brakes would support that. So how does it get like this? Will the LSV invert at droop if put on a lift? Was this just installed incorrectly? I think this is totally wrong based on everything I know about the LSV, but it's so odd looking I had to post. Any comments are welcome. Thanks.
  3. Mostly. The YJ is split in half in the garage pending some final floor work and then complete reassembly. Doing that project right has taken way longer than I thought. The TJ is MIA on load right now. The JK and JL are the daily drivers so they're always around here somewhere, and the MJs just sit there waiting for the YJ to be finished. The 91 MJ is a good driver, in fine shape, so I do run around in that from time to time. It just looks like a basket case with the terrible paint on it. I'm out of space now, so don't expect me to get another one. I just couldn't pass up a southern HO. Had to do this one. Plus my son is super-excited to have a manche like dad.
  4. Ghost: 1992 Comanche Base This is the Ghost 1992 Base build thread. This truck is special because it has a March 1992 build date, making it one of the last Comanches to roll off the assembly line. Ghost is a High Output truck originally from Kentucky. Vehicle: 1992 Jeep Comanche Base SWB VIN: 1J7FT26S9NL215160 Engine: 4.0L HO (Chrysler Electronics) Transmission: AX-15 Transfer Case: None Front Axel: Dana 30 Solid 2WD Rear Axel: Dana 35 3.07 Gears Wheelbase: Short Wheel Base / Short Bed Build Date: March 1992 Current Mileage: 242,100 Factory Options: None really except aluminum wheels History This truck was one of the last Comanches built at the Toledo, Ohio factory. It's build date is March 1992. It was ordered as a very plain base truck with an AX-15 and without 4WD. It was sold to the original owner by Bob Allen Mortomall in Danville, Kentucky. It spent most of it's life in Kentucky, and is very clean and rust-free underneath. The original owner moved it to Ohio after around ten years in the south. Apparently it was in perfect condition until the owner lent it to his brother-in-law, a painter, to use as a work truck for a month. It came back to him with nearly every dent on the truck today. In 2010, club member terrawombat purchased the truck in Ohio, and moved it east to New Jersey. This pic is from 2010 when he purchased the truck: During his ownership the truck was well-cared-for, and daily driven - mainly used as a work truck. The damage to the passenger side fender and door happened when he loaned the truck to his father for a weekend. There is not a body panel on this truck without a dent or ding, and every one of them happened when the truck was loaned out to family. I've made a note of this. These upgrades/modifications were done at some point in the past: Partial floorpan replacement; New Luk heavy-duty clutch and new flywheel in 2016; Leer SWB Comanche topper added; New SMS headliner; Carpet re-dyed; Steering rebuilt with Redhead steering box and all new joints/bushings in 2017; AX-15 was replaced at some point prior to 2010; Black grill and headlight bezels replaced with chrome. In 2015 the truck was moved to Queenstown, Maryland, and was registered in Maryland with 236,000 miles on the odometer. I purchased it from terrawombat on June 16, 2018 with 242,100 miles on it. The gauge cluster reads lower mileage due to being swapped - that will be fixed at some point. This is a pic of the truck in Maryland as it looked when I purchased it: Chrysler Build Sheet ALAP SE Decor Group APAS Monotone Paint BAPS 75 Amp Alternator BCCS Dual 730 Amp Maint Free Batteries BGAS Power Front Disc/Rear Drum Brakes CBAP Straight Back Bench Seat CKAP Carpets - Floor and Cargo Area CUMS Mini Floor Console DBBC All Manual Transmissions DDQ 5-Speed Manual Transmission DMMS 3.07 Rear Axle Ratio DRJS 175MM Rear Axle ERH 4.0L I6 Power Tech Engine GACS Tinted Glass Windows GBBS Tinted Windshield Glass GCBS Front Door Tinted Glass GEHS Fixed Door Vent Glass GFD Rear Sliding Window GRZP Left Remote Mirror GSZP Right Remote Control Mirror GTZP Manual Remote Mirrors HCDS Do Not Use - See HCA JAZS DO NOT USE - See JP, KA classes JCAS 85 MPH Primary Speedometer JHAP Var Intermittent Windshield Wipers JJAP Cigar Lighter LAPS Shift Indicator Warning Lamp LBCS Glove Box Lamp LMAS Halogen Headlamps MBJP Black Powder Coated Front Bumper MB1S Black Front Bumper MFFS Black Grille MHAP Black Windshield Moldings MMCS Rear Door Solid Window Insert MMGS Belt Moldings MMKP Lower Grille Surround-Painted Silver NAAS Federal Emissions NBKS EVAP Control System NF2S 18.5 Gallon Fuel Tank PW7 Bright White Clear Coat QW7S Bright White Clear Coat RAAC All Radio Equipped Vehicles RAFP AM/FM Cassette Radio RCDP 4 Speakers SBAP Power Rack and Pinion Steering SCGP Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel SFAS Standard Duty Shock Absorbers SGAS Rear Shock Absorbers SUA Tilt Steering Column TBCS Compact Spare Tire TBMS Tire Carrier Winch TMWP P265/60r18 BSW A/S All Terrain Tires TZAP Goodyear Brand Tires WJNP 15" Aluminum Wheels WLZC All Aluminum Wheels XBSS Pickup Box YAAS Build To U.S. Market Specifications Day 1 Pics Current Issues Needs to be registered and inspected in Pennsylvania; Partial floorpan replacement needs to be checked - looks good from underneath; Driver's window regulator replacement; Steering is a bit loose; Clutch slave is leaking slowly; Starter is abnormally loud; Vacuum line boots are cracked, vacuum issues; Load sensing valve is not operational; Power steering pump is whining; General cleanup of wiring and engine bay; Every body panel from the doors forward needs to be replaced; More to follow. Future Plans This build will be done in similar fashion to my 1991 Silver Star Pioneer build. They will be very similar sister trucks. The body will be fixed up, and it will be converted to 4WD. The Comanche Leer topper will go, it will eventually get a SWB factory rollbar. Interior will change over to AMC black. A decal package will be added. Ghost will stay white, but she'll need to be repainted. The paint is original right now. Might convert to an automatic transmission. Right now I'm thinking this truck will be given to my youngest son when he is responsible enough to own it (he's 5 now). This will be a very nice father-son project over the years. This truck will be brought back to better-than-factory specifications over a long/slow build. This build should progress in tandem with my 1991 Silver Star Pioneer build. Here they are together for the first time: Thank you for following.
  5. This is why I love this place.
  6. Want to buy or trade for a SWB factory rollbar for my 92. Located in York, PA. Can arrange freight shipping via Greyhound if far away. If anyone has one, please let me know. Can pay via PayPal, or if local, I'm willing to trade a Comanche specific SWB Leer topper in very good shape plus cash on my end, if required.

  8. 87MJTIM is correct about this. I am not a lawyer, either. However, I know quite a bit about patents and intellectual property due to my career. This is not legal advice: Patents expire after 18 years. This is a federal requirement so as to allow competition and innovation after allowing the original developer a long enough time period to capitalize in a sufficient manner on their research and development. Beyond that, the right to manufacturer a specific part may be owned by a licensee, whether or not a valid patent still exists. If the part is on a 30 year old truck and no longer actively produced, it's likely the right to produce it is not licensed to anyone, and the patent has expired. If, after a patent on an original widget has expired, you modify that widget in some fashion as to enhance it (innovation), that new widget is considered inspired by the original, not the original. For example, if you were to recreate original factory electric window bezels (which are discontinued and not produced for more than 18 years) with your 3D printer, and your did not print the factory stampings/markings on the back, but instead printed it with extra ribbing for support, I don't see how you could have any issue with anybody ever.
  9. I was thinking oil as well. It's deteriorated as everything has dried out over decades. It's probably supposed to have a darker, richer color. Oil may breathe life back into it.
  10. My house is about three miles from the fairgrounds, so we're going to be close. Anybody needing to pick up anything from Brandon, and wanting to do it here, can get my address from him via PM when you work out whatever you need to work out. Or PM me.
  11. There was discussion about that recently. Nobody has ever seen it, and we don't think any truck ever came that way. Check out the thread here:
  12. Really excited for this. We'll be in Jeep mode all weekend. If anybody that wants to meet Brandon here at my house to pick up anything or to just hang out, just let us know.
  13. Who is going to the All Breeds Jeep Show in York, PA this year? York Fairgrounds, York, PA July 21-22 2018 http://pajeeps.org/ I will be there all weekend, not showing any Jeeps, though. Last year quite a few guys from the club showed up. Chime in if you're planning on coming. The show is pretty JK heavy, but does get it's fair share of XJs, MJs, CJs, older FSJs and things you never knew Jeep made. Good time every year.
  14. I'm on the east coast, so I can't help you get one. I'm chiming in with info. I have a couple bedliners, and have seen a few others in yards. I've only ever seen them read 'COMANCHE' in all caps and 'Jeep' or 'Pendaliner' in mixed case. I've not seen 'Comanche' or 'JEEP' stamped on any, although they may very well exist. Based on what I've seen, I think the earliest bedliners produced (85-87) likely were stamped 'COMANCHE' to match the emblem on the truck, and when that emblem changed, the bedliner likely changed to 'Jeep'. I could see them still having bedliners being sold with trucks from the dealer stamped 'COMANCHE' maybe as late as 88 or 89 due to production runs. Just guessing, though. There's nothing out on the web about these. The OEM for the bedliners was Pendaliner, and you will find Comanche-specific bedliners which are stamped 'Pendaliner', and not 'COMANCHE' or 'Jeep'. I believe these were sold in the aftermarket, but absolutely use the same exact mold for both the liner and the tailgate cover as the OEM stamped bedliners, except the lettering. And there were both over-the-rail and under-the-rail models produced.
  15. It was very nice to meet you and thank you for everything. Stay tuned to CC, I'll be sure to post plenty of updates to her.

    Brisket

Happy Father's Day! My mouth is watering looking at that brisket. And funny enough, I had lunch with my dad today at Mission BBQ and had it there. Looks fantastic. Grill hard, my friend.
  17. I purchased this Comanche from Tim today in Queenstown, MD, and drove it 100 miles north to it's new home in York, PA.
  18. June 2018: Vent Windows and 4.0L HO Badge Acquired Just had to share. Some more pieces of the puzzle arrived today. Two pristine vent windows, and a 4.0L HO badge...
  19. My truck had that bull bar all mangled to hell and back laying in the bed when I bought it. I think it saved the front end at one point from a total disaster.
  20. I'm not sure if the Renix bracket is the same as an HO bracket, but on an HO the power steering bracket is locked into place with three bolts, and if I recall correctly, they are 1/2" and there's one at the front and two in the rear. You have to loosen those before you try to move the pump using the tensioner bolt. It should move, and if it doesn't it's probably corroded together and needs to be convinced to move with a pry bar. I'd recommend a Continental (used to be branded as Goodyear Gatorback) for the belt.
  21. That rear bumper is sweet. Great find.
  22. That proxy should not have been on and that's what was causing you issues. We are about to start archiving all remote pics posted to the site (see pub thread) so it needes to be off anyway. Your old method of posting images seems to work fine now.
  23. I see that turning off the image proxy also caused all your good/bad/rusty pics to come up in your recent post. And most of the posts you have here. So, I guess you know what to do.
  24. Hey Bonks. Pete had turned on remote image proxies and that was causing issues embedding remote content. I've disabled that feature as we're going to be archiving remote images on the site soon enough. To get those remote CL images entered, do something like this using the SOURCE function in the editor: <img src="https://domain.com/path/to/img.jpg" />
