Dual Battery Set-Ups - Diesels?
jimoshel replied to Bornindesert's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At one time I ran a dual battery set up. I was running a Ham rig in the Jeep and had the second battery mounted in the back. Had a heavy duty police, taxi alternator in it.Want to make sure you have them isolated so they don't both run down together. -

You get a couple thousand CB'RS running high power outputs in a concentrated area and it's easy to see why they limit the output. Want to run a couple KW? Get a Ham license. I used Midland in all my trucks and was very satisfied with their performance. That's been many years ago. Haven't used a CB in over 15 years. -
Got a Dana 44 from a '87 MJ at the local P&P. $125. they don't care, or know the difference between a D44, D35, Ford or GM. To them a rear axles a rear axle and that's their going rate. When selling I ask $150 for a Rear end and if they offer anything over a $100, I take it. Dana 44 excepted.

Dual Battery Set-Ups - Diesels?
jimoshel replied to Bornindesert's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've worked in Thule Greenland where the lowest temperature reached was -64*., 1953-54, 1979-80. I've worked in the Sinai Desert 1981-82 where the highest temperature was 117* If we had a battery that didn't last at least 3 years it was a defective battery. Not the temperature. Maybe you could just install a portable generator in the bed, trunk? -

Unless you need 24Volts for something, why mess with 2 batteries. Just get one heavy duty and go with it. -
Wonder if we could get politicians interested in registering electric fences and leave our guns alone?
-
Having personal experience with electric fences, I can vouch as to everything he said being possible. The fartherest I've ever been thrown from a horse was one day I was working with Ms Whiskey and didn't pay attention to our position and backed her up into the charged fence. Didn't need a pilots license for that flight. :D

Was running a SBE34 to a Collins 2KW linear, Ham rigs, with a Hy Gain 20-15-10 4 element beam mounted on a 34 foot tower fastened to the trunk. First time I went under a overpass I realized that i may not have made an intelligent choice. -
THIS is the best and easiest way to do it if you are swapping in anything but MJ seats. when you do this you can swap in almost any kind of seat. Take care that the seat you're putting in is not too wide, too tall or too short...and do NOT use the rocker (rocket?) sliders if you are any taller than 5'5". That's what they made sun roofs for. Wear goggles.

Back in 1963 I had a 1962 Austin Healey 3000. Came from the factory with trip carbs, One more than the '61 models. Thinking that if 3 carbs were better than 2, then 6 would be better than 3. Without going into details I fabricated and installed 6 Mikunis on the thing. 1 carb per cylinder with a 2inch runner. The linkage was a mechanical nightmare At this point I forgot about adding a turbo which was in the original plan. I was happy just to get the thing running. There was a noticeable improvement on the top end but a very bad bog on the take off. Everything was mechanical, no computers then. I'm thinking that with the improvements we have now and using TBI with computer control it might be a viable option. Would sure be fun anyway.

Deer Hunting Story...even if you don't care about hunting...Gotta Love Ted! Ted Nugent, rock star and avid bow hunter from Michigan , was being interviewed by a liberal journalist, an animal rights activist. The discussion came around to deer hunting. The journalist asked, 'What do you think is the last thought in the head of a deer before you shoot him? Is it, 'Are you my friend?' or is it 'Are you the one who killed my brother? Nugent replied, 'Deer aren't capable of that kind of thinking. All they care about is, what am I going to eat next, who am I going to screw next, and can I run fast enough to get away. They are very much like the Democrats in Congress.' The interview ended.

[WARNING: This is my very First writeup] Never know it if you hadn't said anything. Very well written, lucid and informative. Tnx for taking the trouble to post it.

$10 you pick up. Otherwise plus shipping.

Whether it's worth the time and trouble or not is an individual opinion. When I pass some one while driving down the highway and I know they're reading the 'JEEP" on the tailgate, to me it's worth it.

These are some of the most detailed diagrams I have seen in my life. In fact I think they're too detailed. Sometimes make looking for wire or schematic overly hard. It will show you everything about the wiring you could ever possibly use or need to know.
