Yep. They're all the same. Just calibrate the pot. Just a thought. If you want to send me your unit and I'll send you one like you want. You pay shipping both ways.

Set the IP on your work bench. Remove the front plastic cover. On the back is 5 screws, 2 big ones and 3 little ones. Remove them. There is also a screw on the lower right of the tach face. Remove it. Pull the tach out.Behind the tach is a circuit board with a pot on it. That pot is the adjustment. I can't post pics but if anyone wants one email me. To calibrate the tach you will need some jumper wires and hook it back into the XJ circuit or if you have access to a power supply and signal generator use them. For the 4 cyl 66.7 HZ=2000RPM. 166.7 HZ=5,000RPM For the 6 cylinder 100HZ=2000RPM. 250HZ=5000RPM.

I'm wondering if the tachs themselves are made for each usage, meaning you need the tach made for that engine, number of cylinders. If so, then I see no reason a 2.8 and a 4.0 can't be interchanged. Perhaps some one with a parts manual, DON?, could check the numbers and come up with something.

I have IP'S with tach from '84, '85, and '86 XJ'S 2.5 and 2.8 engines. I also have IP with tachs from '87 '88, '89 and '91 XJ, 2.5 and 4.0. None of them has a pot or anything else for adjustment that can be seen. I haven't torn into any of them to see if there's something on the inside. Also in neither the FSM for the 1986 and the 1989 XJ-MJ there is nothing about tach adjustment. The schematic just shows a wire from the ign module to the IP.

I recently saw where Ferrari has come out with a new $2million dollar sports car. I immediately ordered a matching set. Yellow. I received a correspondence from them asking for a substantial down payment before they shipped. JEEEZ. Doesn't any body trust any body any more?

That is the part that screws to the floorboard. The one that fits on, in?, the console is shown just below that and to the right. There is no boot that fits directly on the tran and shifter. I have made one for there when I build a Jeep for dirty usage.

Wonder if he'd take $400 and deliver?

If you're going to swap, then why not swap everything as a unit? Head, and both manifolds? And if needed, down pipe.

You come get it.

Comanche Of The Month - March 2013
jimoshel replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Nice rig. Really nice to hear that I'm not the only guy that appreciates the very capable 2.5. But question. Why are you trying to push that stump back into the ground? -
Hint. The mobile version was meant to be used while in motion. If you're standing still, don't use it.
-
When installing the new head, don't use the factory head bolts. Instead use ZipLock ties. They're easier to remove.

Having never been so frustrated in my life that i felt the need to resort to physical violence or release of pent up frustration Therefore I don't understand it. However I have heard of a incidence in which a PO'D person was swinging a 16lb sledge at an inanimate object and a poorly aimed blow deflected the hammer sideways, striking the hammer swinger on the shin, Which did not help the situation any. Don't have a 9mm? 12 gauge is also very effective.

I recently sold Hitman a set of springs from a '95ZJ, 5.2. He's wanting to lift the front of his MJ. When he removed the springs from his MJ he found them to be the same size, length and wire thickness as the one's I sent him. It cost him $40. For that money I, We would like to know whats going on. I'm thinking it might be possible a PO swapped them. Are all the front coil springs on a MJ the same? MT excepted. Any body got any ideas? 405840000.jpg The coil I removed from a '95 and sent him on the right. A coil from a '89 MJ on the left. http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL620/13235509/23557276/405840000.jpg

That's the factory installed lift kit. You pump it until you get the lift you want. It's also known as a brake equalizer. Proportions the rear brakes to allow for the difference between a full and empty bed.

Don't chop or hack a good MJ. Get a S10, Dakota or Ranger if you feel you gotta chop something.

I always heard that the mind was the second thing to go. I forget what was first. :rotf:

Yep. Anyway, saved me a wasted trip.
-
That's why it happened, cause I forgot.

Fella just called me. Got a '88 Dakota wants to sell. 4 cylinder engine, 5 speed manual. He doesn't know a 2.5 or a AX15 from shinola. Problem is, he's to far away to just go to loook. Almost have to be sure of buying to justify the trip. My question is, what are the chance of it having the bell housing for a a AX15 swap into a '87 MJ 2.5?

I'm laffin now. A coupla hours ago I was DPO'd

Mine too. Many a time I've seen a request for something and I wouldn't answer it because I didn't know their location.
