Haven't ID'D the rear axle yet. ONly know it's not a D35 or D44. The dash is full of screw holes where they had all kinds of something or another in it. Two holes in the roof. Still had the podium like mount for a radio. Been most of the day just removing bent metal. The left hand side LCA was ripped off the axle and the control arm was bent over 90* Upper control arm bent 60* Front driveshaft was pushed back into the 231 shattering it and wiping out both UJoints. Double checked the frame and amazingly it isn't bent. Radiator's OK. Left front fender, hood, bumper, grill, back panel and windshield needs replaced. Interior clean. I got this just to part it out for the engine and tranny but after getting into it, I'm going to fix it and keep it. I've got everything it needs except a 231. Maybe I'll see if I can swap a 242 or 249 into it.

Trying To Pick A Manual.
jimoshel replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I ordered, and received a 1989 FSM from them over a year ago. It was advertised on ebay and if I remember right it cost me $80. Four books total. The main manual is really dog eared and greasy but completely readable. The other 3 were like new books. You need the '89. -
Use a hydraulic press and apply enough pressure to the cross pin to shear the retaining pin. Then worry about getting the retaining pin out, which should be easier since it's now in 2, or 3 pieces.

Welcome, and if you ever use that motor home to come this way, drop in.

A fella just delivered a 1995 Wrecked XJ that I bought the other day. 4.0, 5spd, EXTERNAL clutch, 95,650 on the clock. Belonged to the City of LaVeta. Impact drove the front axle back driving the front drive shaft back and shattering the 231. Didn't hurt the engine or transmission. Hopefully it will lead to better things. While talking I asked him if he knew of any Jeep P/U around. He said his neighbor has two, a Blue one he drives once a week and one with paneling, he pointed to my Waggoneer and said. "Like that," That he never drives. From his description they are both in excellent shape. He said the guy is older than I am. He's going to talk to him and call me, so I may be going down this afternoon or tomorrow and have a look. They are both MJ'S. And I tried to upload pics but as usual Photo Bucket refused to co-operate so after half an hour I gave up. Getting overly anxious to go look. We'll see.

Humming Alternator

Isolator diode going bad letting current leak thru to the exciter winding. -
In reading the above posts and being technology challenged myself, I have deeply and thoroughly pondered the situation and believe I have come up with a working solution. Horses. In reading the following repotaire, repotare, essay please keep an open mind and fully think about it. You take the pic you want to post and wrap it in a piece of paper and place it in an envelope. Take the envelope to the nearest stable or relay station. From there it will go by horseback to it's final destination. How simpler can it get? There will need to be a series of relay points as a horse can only go about 10 miles at a gallup before tiring. On a 1,000 mile leg that's 100 relay stations and a couple hundred horses. A rider can go 100 mile before needing a rest. No union here. That's 10 riders. there will be charges occuring which will need to be addressed such as hay $14 a bale, rent on stables, vet bills, Managers at the stations, etc, etc. For this service we will need to come up with a catchy name, Horse Express or Pony Rider or some such. Just a thought. El Jimbo

Not sure which is cheaper. College or experience. The only difference between men and boys is the size of their girl friends boobies.

Which Is The Best Amc Engine 4.0 L Rebuild Kit?
jimoshel replied to dan12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am assuming you don't have the necessary tools for checking cylinders and crank for wear or doing a valve job and will be having a machine shop doing it for you. As Biotex stated, ask them. They'll know. -
The first, but definitely not the last. This country is dry. Good pics. What lense, setting were you using?
-
Nonsensical? Don't ever call me that again,,,until I've looked it up and find out what it means.

I hit the 'quote' button once and get two posts.

$45 shipped '89 XJ
-
OK. I got one. $20 shipped. Thats just for the circuit foil, That's kind of steep but I am breaking up a good cluster. Perhaps if anyone wants a tach, speedo or one of the gauges I can average the prices out and come down a little. Around here a complete cluster goes for $40.
-
It does take a steady hand and low heat. I have found that sometimes it's easier to go to a tie point on the same circuit and tie into it, If it's a long run you will want to use insulated wire. Ont he bad ground could you tie into another ground point?
-
Have you tried repairing the old one? Clean the foil real good and solder a copper wire across the break.

Elmer, Is this anything to do with your firm?

Was in town today. While sitting at the second busiest intersection in town I spotted a maroon MJ coming towards me. Very nice looking truck. It turned Left and went down the street passing everything in it's way and disappeared. There was no way I could turn around, go around the block or anything else to catch it. That's the second one I've seen around here in the last two years. . :MJ 1: .

The Coast Guard is dismantling and upgrading some of their lighthouses and selling stuff from them. If you can get one of them lights mounted in the bed I think it would provide sufficient illumination rearwards for even the most demanding perfectionist.
-
Welcome Elmer, and I agree with you. When I was in Manilla I couldn't believe the number of Jitneys running around the place.
-
Well, I looked. The 2.5 starter does mount with two bolts going up into the block. Wondering where I went wrong there. I looked at a 2.5 block I had on the ground and didn't believe a bolt that small could hold a starter. Solved one problem but created another one. I have 11 starters on the shelf all marked 2.5. So how did they get marked that way and what are they off? The 2.5 and 2.8 still will not interchange. The Jeep is inline bolt pattern and smaller than the Chevy staggered pattern. Note to self. When Corry says something. take his word for it. LOL

Want to have some fun? Have the rock move when she pushes on it. :D

put me down for two.
-
It's to dark now to see anything. Going to take another look tomorrow.
-
Dog gone it Corry. I had to go out and look. The bottom bolt goes thru the starter into the bell housing. The top bolt goes thru the bell housing into the starter.
