It's a moot point, now. My little bro was down other day. He gave me his old one, a Garmin GPS Map. Seems to be a nice unit. Going to wait until I try it out in the woods and check battery life. We'll see, but hey,,,it's free.

Using a '90 xj for 4wd conv on '87?
jimoshel replied to UNL1MTD's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes. You are getting the complete Jeep, right? If so then you will have all the bits and pieces needed except for the rear drive shaft. -
Anybody have feedback on this air compressor??????
jimoshel replied to jeepaholic's topic in The Pub
I know nothing about a Morgan air compressor. I do know Northern Tool and have had dealings with them for many years. I trust them. They're not going to be selling junk. -
I have done it in one day, but to quote Eagle, that was really crankin it and not worrying about how it was going back together again. There's a difference between parting one out for scrap and parting one out for donor. When your removing a part it seems obvious where it goes when putting it back together but guess what? It doesn't happen that way. I think one of the most common reasons projects get abandoned is because the guy, or girl, is looking at a wire, or a hose or a part and can't remember where or how it goes. Label everything. Take lots of pics. Make notes of anything that gave you trouble removing it because it is going to be twice as hard putting it back. Get beer. Get anybody you can con into it to help, especially if it's somebody has an idea of what they're doing. Have fun. Jim

Hatch= A square thing-a-ma-jiggy that is used on sea going transportation vehicles (Ships) to cover holes in the decks. Holes having been put there for the purpose of loading and unloading cargo. Batten= Canvas used to fill in the space between the hatch and the hole in the deck. Not needed with modern constructed vessels but was very necessary with the older wooden constructed ones. Prevented the holds from filling up with water and sinking the ship, to the dismay of the occupants of the sinking ship.

Sorry. 42RE console shift.

How do you remove the plastic handle from the shift lever, tranny and TC? The book says pull up firmly and it will come off. I say like heck. I have put a pry bar under it and beat on it with a hammer and I can't budge it. Any clues?

What feature made you select the TomTom over the Garmin? depends on what you're planning to use it for... Street driving going place-to-place = Tom Tom type would work well. If ya plan on using it for finding your way in the back country, i'd go with the magellan/garmin type. Probably the primary use will be to pull the Jeep, Or the horse over, take a reading and locate it, me, on a topographic map. Secondary use will be to confirm a location when on a search and rescue. And I do appreciate the replies and comments. Jim

comanche runs like crap...getting annoyed!!
jimoshel replied to beaterheep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Might want to run a compression check. A burnt, sticking intake valve. or lifter has the same symptoms. -
After getting lost a couple times while getting up in the middle of the night to go to the john, I've decided to splurge and get me a GPS. We've all heard the stories where some idiot blindly followed his GPS directions and drove off a cliff or something equally asinine. What I would like is recommendations on which ones are good and which ones to avoid. Thanks in advance, Jim

wheelbase question
jimoshel replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mechanics with short tools prefer short boxes. A quick way tell a short box from a long box is look at the gas filler door. On short boxes it is mid ways between the rear fender well and the front of the box. On long boxes it is closer to the fender well with a wider space between it and the front of the box. -
Release The Key-Starts, Then Won't Stay Running
jimoshel replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Might try checking your B+ latch relay. And there are 2 fuseable links in the start-run circuits. I don't think they are the problem. -
Can someone look up data in an Owner's Manual?
jimoshel replied to FXWorks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wondered that myself. Same components so must be the way they were rated.Or maybe they figured the average drivers were heavier so they deducted that from the useful load. -

jimoshel replied to FXWorks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
He asked for information from a 1988 owners manual. The information I sent was taken from a 1988 owners manual. -
You have the main plug which is attached to the column. This is standard on all columns and has the horn, turn signals and emergency flasher wires. Then there will be one or two plugs that will come out of the column housing but will be loose, not attached to anything. One will be for the cruise control and one will be for the washer, wipers.

Quote Pete, the inline fuel pump will wok great. Mount it behind the fuel filter so it gets filtered gas instead of gunk straight from the tank. -
I got a 60'X100'X6" concrete slab I'll sell to ya fer $25. You pay removal and shipping.

Yep, several times. Half the time was able to fix them with all the steps you did. Half the time didn't.

New door mirrors, no hardware!
jimoshel replied to DodgeFan01's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As they come from the factory they used TORX screws. I have seen replaced ones using common bolts. -
