How common is red interior?
carnuck replied to 89 shortbed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My '87 is Black interior with red exterior, the one I'm swiping the 2wd AW4 from (I have an AW4 4x4 trans and NP231 to go in or at least with it) is blue interior. -
They put a mall where my old mudhole was near Everett, WA. One was so deep, the wave went over the roof of my '83 Full Size Jeep and soaked my son (who rolled his window down 2 inches)

I wish I had a couple in summer to clear away all the Mexican Bamboo (Chinese boxwood) we have at our cabin and along the roadway in. Don't know if they would eat it, but it's not supposed to be poisonous.

WJ Booster and Master Cylinder Upgrade
carnuck replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Very important in high pressure areas. If you have an accident, your insurance is null and void for using them and ignorance of the law isn't excusable in safety regulations. -
Does it get hard to move when you turn the key on but not running? (missed the AX-15 part. Text size wasn't readable on my screen at the time and the color blended in with the black background)

Manifold Upgrade vs Serpentine Belt
carnuck replied to flint54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Use the gasket that matches the exhaust manifold to head the best. If head is small holes and large holes in the manifold, it's a toss up which to use -

My '86 was red/red and my son's '89 is too. -
A friend of mine was forced to move right after he moved in and paid the rent (first/last and deposit), due to landlord dirty tricks (the asshat had my friend's XJ and Isuzu Bellett towed away then when asked why, AH replied "Who cares?") so my friend carved "Who Cares?" in the lawn in huge letters and burnt the sod with chemicals that won't let it grow back.

Sounds to me like the circuit breaker in the fuse box got kicked loose.

I'd try the filter first. At this time of year, first batch of winter gas cleans out the tank and guess where it goes? Straight to the filter (if it doesn't rip up the pump along the way!)

I put my Lab/Pit cross in the canopy with the slider window open so he can see/hear us in the front or he'd crawl under my feet when a Harley/Ghetto thumper drove by

Use DOT 5.1 fluid (NOT DOT 5!) It's compatible with Dot3&4 and won't eat up the plastics plus it has a higher boiling point and lower miscible level (water absorption)

Test one of the lights directly and you'll have your answer. Lowbeam is power to the center pin plus ground to one of the side terminals. (grounding one will result in dim light. The other will be lowbeam)

Someone suggested the throttle cable fraying near the end. I've seen that before. Can you move the throttle under the hood easily or? If automatic, could the neutral shift cable from the column be causing an issue? The throttle plate may be loose or needing adjusting.

WJ Booster and Master Cylinder Upgrade
carnuck replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Just an FYI, but you can NOT use these compression type fittings on brake lines! They are designed for less than 200 psi and brake systems are over 1,000 psi on mild stops. -
EGR valve/tube/switch Elimination??
carnuck replied to skidoo_j's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I cut the tube with my tubing cutter rather than mess with breaking the joints loose (and the tube) then join them together with tube connectors. EGR was used to cut NOx in older rigs. The HO has the cam timed differently and restricts the amount of advance to do the same. -

Did you unplug the crank sensor when you pulled the head? -
I would find a nearby Amsoil dealer and get their fuel system cleaner/treatment. Since you have only 1 injector, any clogs are REALLY noticeable. Other brands of cleaners have been known to cause the injector O ring to go bad.

It could be a corroded firewall connector too. AKA C101

I'm having a hard time understanding why you are so opposed to me putting in a little bit more effort than the next guy in determining a safe and effective design for a trailer hitch. I'm not charging anyone for my time - I just wanted to use my IMAGINATION and not do a straight copy of an existing design. Plus, I wanted to have the peace of mind in knowing that it would perform as it was intended. Again, it was my name and reputation on the line and I want to protect that even if, by your standards, it means making it out to be more "complicated or engineered" than it actually is. Seesh. Sorry. I'm sure any Joe Blow that is good with a torch and a welder can come up with a perfectly acceptable trailer hitch design that fits on our trucks and works just fine. That's fantastic. Through my over complication and engineering, I was also looking for ways to reduce material costs, that I could pass down to the consumer. When it comes to sheet steel, weight = money. And finally, your generalization is somewhat insulting. Since I'm 26 and fall directly into your blanket statement of unimaginative engineers, I take offense. Computers, CAD, FEA, CFD etc. are all tools that aid engineers and are, by no means, a replacement for imagination. It was no different for the engineer's of days past that used a pencil and paper to come up with designs and perform calculations. The ideas have to come from somewhere and that's usually up in your noggin'. You bring up a couple of good points. At 45 I had the blessing of working with and learning from what may be the last generation of craftsmen. Oh sure, for some a craft has been handed down to them but for the most part.......craftsmanship is lost. To the point of being offended- it wasn't personal just an accurate observation of a generation at large. I've had numerous hobbies over the years and my Comanche is the latest and that what brings me here. I will not have a lift on my truck because I work out of it, the only folks here in E TN that drive lifted trucks are the toothless hillbillies that come down off the mountains and I cannot have that kind of appearance when I pull up to someone's home. Having read quite a bit here I get the impression that if your Comanche isn't lifted you aint $#!&.......shall I be offended? No I'm past that nonsense. I used to build Ak47s and I used to handcraft stocks for them, gripsnstocks.com now defunct. The trick is to move directly from your imagination to your hands.......that's where craftsmanship lies. The last project was- This Cub does not exist (only one that I know of), standard tranny with full hydraulics (less rear hitch). It's what you don't see that matters. Built from a compilation of the best that Cub Cadet had to offer, complete build from lose parts and my custom hydraulic system. No I did not grow up in the computer age. We have only had a computer in the house for the last 5 years. I bet you don't remember a time before cell phones and computers and only 4 channels on the one TV in the house? We had 2 channels and I rode horse to school. There is a shop about 25 miles from me that does custom hitches, They built me a Class 4 for my Eagle wagon (they said it was Class 3 certified but the add on bracing I did increased it somewhat) back in '98

ignition control module/coil problems please help
carnuck replied to Squeegy410's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Could be the connector or the crank sensor is going out. Possibly worn out ignition switch. See if it restarts after sitting a bit. -
Sounds like the IAC is clogged
