  1. I put TJ 6.5" springs in mine and got 5" (level with the SOA)
  2. Actually, the BA 10/5 is fine IF serviced by someone that actually knows Peugeots. I'm looking at a turbo diesel from a Peugeot wagon with BA 10/5 in my Comanche (if the owner ever brings it down from Alaska. Ferry ride is expensive) Buddy of mine is a Peugeot expert and he said the 4x4 version wasn't set up with the clearances correct and they ran the wrong oil in it too. His has 300,000 miles+ on it no probs, so he's doing something right!
  3. Cut a hole in the tin pan then use a filter cap wrench. Easy peasy
  4. I used the later XJ linkage bolted only to the trans on mine
  5. Release bearing is the one that pushes on the pressure plate. It could also be the pilot bearing (that's what mine was. It seized to the trans input shaft while I was waiting for a light to change! :ack: (I don't see an eeek! dude) Rule of thumb: If noise goes away when you press the clutch, in the trans (usually front bearing or bad gears) If the noise only happens when you push the clutch, throwout (release) bearing or pilot bearing. If truck lurches like you let off the clutch, pilot bearing seized up. If noise is there before you press the clutch gets waaay worse when you press the clutch, then throwout bearing for sure or something inside the motor is going bad (thrust bearings usually)
  6. Model 15 in AMC Eagles should have the same spiders as non-C-clip D35s (gears interchange but not the axle shafts due to bearing size differences)
  7. What about that corner settling? I had that problem with my house in S. Seattle after the Nisqually quake.
  8. I have a set of Datsun B210 tail lights I'm thinking about putting in my '89 longbed when I do the major mods (shortbox, extended cab, etc)
  9. If you really wanted to do the Northstar swap (or one of the other Caddy engines) then I'd get the AX-15 bell from a Dakota with AMC 2.5 in it along with the other stuff. Don't know about the flywheel though.
  10. Jeep used to have 2 different flywheels because when they did a replacement motor, they had to use the internal balanced engine after '87 (GM ran out of the external balanced ones they pawned off on AMC) Don't assume your motor is externally balanced! Look at the plate for either massive drill outs on one side or a weight on the automatics.
  11. If it's 4x4, count the output splines. 21 is 1987 to 08/90. 23 is '91 up. After '96 another sensor was added for OBDII (I have one of those I installed in my '87) Functionally they are pretty much all the same. Different controllers are generally due to gearing changes. Late model ones ('99ish +) have a swirled 23 spline output (tcases to match)
  12. I did the snow plow like that, but flipped the doors backwards. Also made tow behind sleds out of various car hoods.
  13. The cast iron motor on my compressor was 500lbs by itself. I loaded it in my truck with my engine hoist which was groaning (same hoist I used to lift a complete J10 onto my trailer) Don't trust the bumper hitch! Get a class 4 or 5th wheel before hauling anything heavy. I beefed mine up with steel channel and towed some xjs, but it bent when I pulled my Jtruck up the hill in Skyway, WA where I used to live.
  14. Pull the motor, rebuild it, swap it into yours and put your old motor in it to sell.
  15. Don't put it past some mentally defective environazis or Chaos loosening or removing the other 4. Had that happen while i was in a restaurant.
  16. Why not swap the speedo from one to the other?

    '86 MJ D35

I'd add a magnet to the rear cover or in the bottom
  18. Wonder if THATLDO is taken? Kids would get it Or maybe WILBUR
  19. Note that the motor pics show a chrome grill and the rest a painted one. Smells fishy to me!
  20. Part the russty MJ and use the good stuff on the Eagle SX4. Win-win! (especially the rear axle with 1 piece shafts) I have a Spirit that's slowly becoming an SX4 pre-runner. (along with a 4.0L head/efi and AW4 transplant) and an '81 wagon with 4.2/727/NP229 and XJ 8.25 rear that's just about done.
  21. Before: 4.0L, BA 10/5, SOA rear and 6" front on 33/9.50/15s (front diff was in but no transfercase) 3.73 gears 18 mpg mixed city/highway/mountains After: 4.0L, AW4/NP242, the rest the same. Will find out by next month.
  22. It's been a little bit, but I think your part numbers are backwards. Vee belt and serpentine with the grooves on the pulley are clockwise. Smooth serpentine belt pulley (like this one) is counterclockwise. This is true for all engines unless the motor runs in reverse (none of the Jeep motors do).
  23. I looked into the ATT unit. It's $250 to outright buy it, but they charge a $40 monthly fee for service! I think I'm going to try the cradle booster. Where I live near Seattle is a dead hole because of the mall between us and the best signal. It got worse when a 6 story Hotel with wifi was put in on the other side of that. Top that off with someone else's cell tower within rock throwing distance and me living in a metal roof, metal sided home and I have a great Faraday box! I'm trying to find one like Ebay item 350132813523 but it's wired through the wall. I recently replaced all my windows with triple pane thermoglass and lost all signal in the process (which is why I checked out the mini cell) I found out it won't work where my cabin is unless I get high $peed internet. $3,000 to install plus $100 a month (and I don't even have power hooked up there yet!). I may as well get two way satellite service (which I can install)
  24. Autolites or NGK BPR6EK for mine
  25. cat rattling like popcorn?
