  1. The AW4 was 21 spline until 08/90 and all the 4 cyls were 21 spline trans/tcases except the 3 speed auto which was a short 23 spline.
  2. I just painted the letters on. Been too sick to do much the past week.
  3. '87 to 08/90 is 21 spline in XJ and MJ. 23 spline after that and usually only on automatics. If it's a 700R4 or TH350 then it's 27 spline. TH400 is 32 spline usually but some came with 27 spline.
  4. I think it's a D44 or D30
  5. I'll get my son to snap a pic of it since it's on my old '86 in Canada. PS: I was a welder fitter on the Alaska pipeline back in the '70s.
  6. Paid another month's storage

    car dolly

Uhaul usually won't rent a dolly to anyone with less than a 3/4 ton.
  8. Is there a part number on them? 2wd and 4wd are different too.
  9. Some one on the FSJ list was doing that too (to make an adapter to run w/o the tcase while it's being rebuilt) I can't measure my 2wd AW4, (it's 50 miles away) but IIRC it was 5.5" longer than 2wd.
  10. I used mine all the time till I couldn't tow the wife's Subau and it handled funny on the road to my cabin.
  11. Awesome. Not concerned with the fronts at all, but this may be good information for someone. If the J10s are by themselves and the J20s and Waggys are the same length and there are major load differences... what would said differences be? The difference between a heavy 3/4 ton and a light 1/2 ton. The J20 usually uses 2 thick leaves whereas the Wagoneer uses multiple thin leaves for flex.
  12. I got back to stock ride height and feel with mine. I did an AAL on my '86 longbox which increased it's load ability but rode harsh empty.
  13. J20 are all 8 lug stock (I swapped J10 axles into a few because I wanted the upgrades for other rigs). J10, wagoneer, cherokee are 6 lug (74-83) FSJs with RH drop FSJ axles are '74 to '79. Pickups and Wide Track Cherokees are wider that 4 dr Cherokees and Wagoneers. On the TH400, I meant to say any stock TH400/tcase combo is going to be RH drop, even in Chev until after '88.
  14. Could also be the thrust washer on the dist is MIA (between the gear and the housing)
  15. I think you fixed the vacuum leak and over compensated with the fpr.
  16. No-one knows? All I need is a diagram link. Tom doesn't have them on http://oljeep.com
  17. Yes I did. He wanted to take a 4x4 AW4 and hook a driveshaft to it without a tcase attached and wanted to know about the spline count (read the title) Answer is no and I explained why.
  18. My factory Renix manual had a section that showed using a matchstick to reset it.
  19. Dist cap 180 degrees off (there is a notch to align it that will tilt the cap against the rotor) or the shear pin on the drive gear has lost the shim between the dist housing and gear allowing it to ride up too high and hit the inside of the cap.
  20. Major: NOT be sick for the past year or so and have mine done! Extended cab/doors with a shortbox (on the '89 longbox. Once I get the parts, I have a shop to do the bodywork/welding)
  21. It depends on whether you have HO or Renix. The cam timing/power curve is different. renix = bottom end. HO = top end.
  22. Does the motor spin? If not, then the switch at the top of the clutch pedal or a loose ground wire on the block (heats up from running then stops contact till it cools and contracts till it touches again) If the motor does spin, either you are getting no fuel (fuel pump relay, pump resistor is cracked or pump is dying) or no spark/injector signal. (weak CPS, melted harness on exhaust manifold, bad coolant sensor for the computer or corrosion between the coil and ignition box under it.
  23. If you lift more than 3 inches without a longer/adjustable tracbar, you will get a RH pull with the alignment done (found out the hard way. 1 $et of 255/85/16 tire$ 3 months later) I usually find the wobble is the trac bar loose on the driver's side. Put your fingers on the nut and have someone shake your Jeep side to side and see if it movbes at all (it shouldn't) You'll feel a little clunk in it like a bad tierod.
  24. Take the main leaf from an old XJ or MJ pack, cut the eyes off it and put it in #2 position (or any other leaf you can find) I did that to my '86 and hauled a GVW of 6,000lbs average to Ouray, CO and back.
