HITCH PLATES!
mikekaz1 replied to krustyballer16's topic in Vendors- members making products for MJs
side plates were perfectly made, all directions on welding dimentions were spot on! and all bolt holes matched perfectly with no hassles. I used the lower shackle bolt hole and that fit and worked perfect (with the addition of a couple washers to fill in the gap) and helps to tie in the structural rigidity of the hole rear end of the truck. the complete hitch is a great buy, and the DIY is just as simple for someone who likes the self gratification! -

Decided on powder coat. And I'm glad I did! -
HITCH PLATES!

made mine a little different, but i finally got it welded up! instead of the tube stock receiver i used an off the shelf 500/5000lb receiver, was just simplier for me and i actually have a "weight rating" sticker now too. -

got my hitch welded together, debating paint or powdercoat still but excited to finally be able to tow things. -
Fwiw when I replaced the floor. My internal frame support was pretty well gone. So it ends just in front of the seat bracket. I was originally debating just welding in a 1/8 strip in place of it. But I never replaced it. I also haven't seen any I'll effects from not having it (XJs never had it).

Spare Tire Security Hardware
mikekaz1 replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
pretty neat, I don't run a spare tire. but I much prefer the bar style to the "winch" style in the ease of use and dependability categories. -
all conversions would involve full electrical harness replacement. here are my known year brakes for conversions tho..... 91-94obd1 keep your dash and steering column, but swap all electronics. 95obd1 and 96obd2 introduced the airbag steering wheel and redesigned column, so electronics and column swap but keep dash. 97+ obd2 full electronics, dash, column, doors, and firewall modifications. for simplicity id go 91-94 obd1 i see no benefit to the 95/96 swap. the 97+ swap can improve personal aesthetic preferences and the ability to use more common engine diagnostics. but I don't see much more benefit then that. or go "stupider" and keep your electronics and convert to a carburetor. (depending on what electronic problems you've been facing, if its engine based or general electronics)

Headlight harness upgrade
mikekaz1 replied to Sir Jacob the 2nd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the putco harness is easier and neater then most DIY jobs. but for the $5 cost to DIY vs $40 for the putco, I just made my own. -

RHD 4.0ltr Auto 4wd conversion
mikekaz1 replied to SaharaMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
as far as I'm aware the running gear are the same LHD to RHD its just the steering components that are different (steeringbox, column, various linkages). the shifters are still the same and the tcase is still "drivers side drop" (left hand drop) along with axles. -

Hmm the only can change I'm familiar with is the 99+ dual pattern cam. Other then that I've always been under the impression 84-98 were the same -
'88 Eliminator Colorado Emissions
mikekaz1 replied to neohic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Was OBD1 really that big of a game changer to adjust these NOx levels to where the EGR system stopped being used? I don't see how the same engine set up running between renix and OBD1/2 could have changed that much. -

I'm confused a little on the process out there? so you have to inspect your vehicle before you get a in state registration? -
'88 Eliminator Colorado Emissions
mikekaz1 replied to neohic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
MA is pretty relaxed, $35 once a year, safety and emissions check BUT +16 years old theres no emissions testing. emissions is obd2 plug and play and was a tail pipe probe previously. safety is as involved as checking all the lights work, the brakes work, headlights work and a ball joint check. -
