  1. This is the Comanche that featured in the film 'Sahara'. Originally 2.5ltr 2wd. Base model, 6ft bed. Currently being rebuilt as a 4ltr Auto 4wd in RHD. Lives in the UK. The truck hasn't been driven since returning from filming over 10 years ago, but should be up and running again soon in its new configuration.
  2. Thanks for the replies. Just wondered if a ZJ or WG shaft could be used... but I'm sure that would have come up if it was possible. Yes, the 2000 XJ donated most of the parts. RHD & LHD drivetrain are indeed the same layout. I owned the MJ for a few months before it was hired for filming in Morocco. It was a pretty good deal, but they made a mess of it with stage paint, and they managed to heavily damage the left rear panel. They actually wanted to burn out the truck, but I insisted on it being returned. From 2010.... http://comancheclub.com/topic/20249-movie-sahara-with-a-comanche-in-it/page-2?do=findComment&comment=250445
  3. Hi Guy's, My long term project MJ conversion here in the UK is finally progressing after it's been sitting in a corner for the last 10 years gathering dust! Its an 88 truck (the one in the movie SAHARA) which I've converted to RHD from using all the parts from a 2000MY BUX XJ. Is there a junk yard rear prop-shaft / driveshaft that I can use or is it a custom part only? Thanks in advance. PS, If there's posts covering this already, please point me in the right direction. Many thanks. Eliot.
  4. Hi Guy's Just to let you know my MJ that featured in the Sahara movie is safe and sound back in the UK. The film company did want to destroy the Jeep while it was out on set in Morroco, but the contract I'd drawn up prevented that happening, and it had to be returned to the UK. They did however, make a bit of a mess of what was a fairly tidy example prior to them using it for the movie. It was returned with extensive damage to the LH rear 1/4 and covered in stage paint. This paint was reported to be water based and wash off-able, but unfortuneatly it isn't. The stand in modified XJ was the only way they could complete the set. My MJ was a LHD 2.5L 5 speed manual 2wd but is now in the process of being converted to RHD and will feature a 97> XJ face lift inc dash & interior from a UK 2001 XJ 4L Auto Classic. Engine choice is undecided, due to the cost of fuel I may used the donor vehicle's 4L motor that's only done 40K mile's and run it on LPG with an AX15 manual transmission, 242 transfer box and 3.67 diffs, or install one of the CRD diesels that are supplied in our BUX Jeeps. It lives to see another day!
