  1. TV mini-series Lonesome Dove starring Robert Duval and Tommy Lee Jones. The book by Larry McMurtry is done considerable justice and it is a great read also.
  2. Looks good to me! Put me on the list for a couple 2 or 3.
  3. Perfect! Only thing missing is a view of the chrome bumpers but one can't have everything. Good job!
  4. I am deeply moved by Don's passing as I'm sure all of us are here on CC. It's a sad day indeed. He will be missed as he has been already. Wishing his family peace in their time of grief. Here's to you Don!
  5. My same thoughts as well

    moon go bye bye

Pete, nice photo in spite of the tripod. Watched it here through some fairly high power binoculars. Haven't had a really good camera since the invention of digital Totally clear skies, 32 degrees and about 5k feet. Looked just like the photo
  7. Recommended to me by a local body shop. Purchased and appears to work quite well. Free delivery in 2 days with Prime. Corroseal https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CRFYG0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  8. If I remember correctly, with the pan off you can check how much slack is in the timing chain. Mine was pretty loose well before 200K. I replaced it along with the harmonic balancer. Easier to do while engine is out.
  9. I expect I will be heading down that road as well on my next flare. I'd rather be fishing.
  10. I believe up to and including the 96 will just drop in. After that there may be mods but not really sure. I tried to fit a 97+ at the junk yard into an MJ and it was not a drop in.
  11. I used penetrating oil several times over a couple of days before removing one of my flares. I still managed to break 3 of them. Hard to see that you're going to break one until it happens. Next one I will likely take the wheel off and use a dremel and rotary brush on the threads after oil and see if that improves my success rate.
  12. An added incidental while you're at it. This from Hornbrod some months back. Read down to my question about which part as there is some confusion about which one of two is correct at the beginning of the thread. I found it a worthwhile addition.
  13. Dang, a day late again. Thanks for the tip on changing preferences
  14. You can just plug it with the proper size npt brass plug. Makes purging the air easy as well that way. With the engine cold remove the plug when you are filling with coolant and put the plug back in when coolant starts to come out of the hole. Make sure the heater valve is open. You're already wired through the block and the head.

    Merry Christmas

At Eagle....Thank you for offering up your Christmas wishes with the proper spirit of graciousness and humility that is exemplified in the person and the day we are celebrating.
  16. Regular Army, 68-71. If you want to thank a veteran vote for those who validate the injuries incurred in service and who fund the VA. Do the research, the rhetoric is very often BS.
  17. I know that feeling well My Lenovo with Win7 kept trying to update to Win10 and nothing else. I let it do it once and decided I hated it and used the uninstall function on the install. It kept trying to install Win10 so I looked up some solution on the interwebs. It now stops trying to download 10 but it also won't update anything at all and I can't remember what exactly I did. I then left it unplugged for a few months and now the battery won't charge either. I could get a new battery but still not sure if I could fix the problem. Reformatting doesn't seem to be an option and the discs I supposedly have somewhere for taking it back to the original state seem to have gone missing in my recent moves, if I had them at all. Oy vey, eh? I'm off to do some electronics repair on my subwoofer. We'll see if that goes any better
  18. I also have the Firestone Destination AT and like them quite well. Nice ride on the highway (not noisy) and gives good grip off the pavement as well. Probably not the best choice if you are into 'off roading.'
  19. The tail gate literally takes about 30 seconds to remove and another 30 to put back on. I take mine off on a semi regular basis because it makes some things easier to load and I don't have to crawl over it. Try it, you'll like it
  20. Why not just take the tail gate off when you're loading it and then put it back on?
  21. Here's one that looks interesting. http://downeyproductsnortheast.com/partfinder/product/list/?year=1990&make=Jeep&model=Comanche 7' Long Bed Oops, looks like it's a soft cover.
  22. I'm pretty sure I stated what I do is for myself and my situation and I'm well aware of the limitations of smaller caliber hand guns. Yes, I'm sure as Canadians one is more likely to be invited to high tea than to be assaulted. As it happens half my maternal clan is from BC. Around here I'm a lot less worried about problematic wild life than problematic human life owing in part to my wife and I having found ourselves in very a uncomfortable situation out on the road. Take what you like from what I posted and if it doesn't apply then leave it behind. More than just you and the OP read posts on CC and in this case at least it was more to add food for thought for preparedness in marginal situations. Your criticism (ridicule) is duly noted.
  23. I've been driving the CO Rockies for 45 years as well as many trips to OR and back during the winter in a variety of different vehicles over the years. I carry a duffle bag full of winter survival clothing... Sorel felt lined boots, heavy wool socks and polypropylene liners, ski pants, down parka, Swedish Army wool winter hat, a couple different pairs of winter gloves and mittens, hand warmers, water proof wooden matches, and energy bars. I also carry a collapsible snow shovel, kitty litter for traction as well as tire chains, road flares. On longer trips I take a down sleeping bag with me. Anything longer than a trip to the grocery store I take bottle of water. I've spent nights on the road because the highways were shut down due to blizzard conditions, road snow closure, or just because I was too tired to go on. I usually have a way to sleep comfortably in whatever vehicle I might be driving. A 9mm gives an added sense of security. After I retired I spent a year living in an off grid cabin at about 9500', the last 5 miles driving in had a 1000' elevation gain over a rutted non plowed dirt road of which my cabin was at the very end. Had solar electricity and internet or I could never have done it. During the winter I never went anywhere without all of the above. I also drove my AWD Subaru with aggressive snow tires and not my 2wd MJ. Never faltered! Enjoy the trip! I love em!
  24. By all indications you are not getting the system purged. When I first got my MJ one of the first things I had to do was replace the radiator after it sprang a leak. I had the same problems with overheating after that until I learned how to purge the air from the system. Here's what I did. I took out the water control valve and ran hoses directly in and out of the heater (optional). I installed a 91+ thermostat housing with a brass plug (NPT) where the temp sensor goes and put in an OEM thermostat with the hole oriented up. If you want to use an aftermarket stat drill a 3/16" hole in it and orient it up. This will allow air to pass through it. The engine should be cold to purge the air from the system. Fill the bottle to the half way line with coolant and leave the cap off. Take the plug out of the Tstat housing and wait for coolant to start coming out of the hole and then reinstall the plug. Fill the bottle to the half way line and put the cap back on. It shouldn't over heat now (unless something else is wrong). The other way to purge the air is to remove the temp sensor at the back of the head (cold engine) (MJ nose pointed down hill preferably) and wait for coolant to start to come out. The other way sets you up for easy purging should it need it again anytime in the future. Good luck.
