Thanks hornbrod. Looks like I need to visit the DIY section more.

So, are the 97+ mirrors a direct fit?... just unbolt the old and bolt up the new? I've never explored this before and this thread has piqued my curiosity.

Crew Cab Comanche Portland, Or
AMCJeepMJ replied to Goose's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Its an XJ hacked with MJ parts. Pass. -
A winter bike is one with zip-ties around the wheel/tire to give it traction. :laughin:

I pay $86 every other year for registration. I have on a Pacific Wonderland plate which cost a one-time fee of $100. Other plates such as the Cultural Trust or Salmon plates have an additional $35 added to the bi-annual registration, but not the PW or Crater Lakes plates with the one time fee.

The mystery wire with the connector is for a cargo light.

Oh, I thought this thread was going to be of the Alice Cooper song of the same title. Carry on.

I haven't built one in ten years. Had an extensive collection of Tamiya and Testors paints, airbrushes, and about 70 kits [Revell Germany, AMT, Monogram, even a few Jo-Han (Chrysler Turbine!) kits and others] in various stages of being built, dissasembly, or ruin. Most were unceremoniously damaged beyond feasible repair during my move from TX to OR in the back of a 30+ foot Uhaul truck. I put the whole lot on the local CL about 4 years ago and pocketed just over $200 for it from a guy that does kitbashing. I have two remaining completed kits left: a Revell Germany S-100 Schnellboot [model railroad 1/87 oil barrels make great 1/72 depth charges] in ghost/haze gray, and a Revell JU-87G tank buster in winter camo. Ninja edit: One of the kits that went with the lot was the above Hemi Cuda, but done in a gunmetal with the black side decals. Looked good and even wired the distributor with fine wire. Did a Chrysler 300C kit in champagne and Mazda MX5 in bright red and wired the engines on them too. I don't think I have the patience, eyesight, or steady hand to get back into doing them any more.

Bench Seat 4 Point Safety Harness
AMCJeepMJ replied to comanche1989's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sabelt harnesses are what pro drivers use. My thoughts are, however, if you are using the rig as a DD, a 4 or 5 point harness isn't going to be practical and may be thought of as a Fast N Furious item by others. I am using an aftermarket retractable 3 point seat belt from Mid America Motorworks after my retractor mechanism failed; it only took a small amount of modification to make this work and was relatively inexpensive. -
Go to Google, type in 'jeep cherokee brush guard' in the search box, then hit enter... at least that's what I would do. Could also try ebay with the same search parameters. Works for Amazon too. If you're looking for a bumper with a grille guard, that's a different story.

A few dowel rods or stakes in the area with a few inches of string on them would show airflow direction, which could help with determining the best method or location for cutting down the dust/debris.

...five months later... $3.59/g for 87 today.

I purchased a 4' by 10' roll and have 3M aerosol headliner and trim adhesive for application [strong stuff]; I am waiting on a warm day to complete the install... it's all currently in my garage waiting to go in along with a fresh headliner. I estimate the majority of the roll of insulation will be used. About the insulation, after reading reviews of a dozen or so different kinds, the EZ Cool was the winner and should work as effectively as Dynamat at a fraction of the cost and weight. Don't pick up tar-backed stuff or the foam-n-foil kind from Lowe's or Home Depot.

Options For Hood Vents From The Wreckers
AMCJeepMJ replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did you use any kind of mesh or grating on the back side of the cowl to keep rodents/leaves/birds/elephants out, or is it open?- 44 replies

Options For Hood Vents From The Wreckers
AMCJeepMJ replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks nice. What did you use to seal it against the hood so water does not get in? Also, any interference with the wipers when the hood is raised?- 44 replies

I went with EZ Cool sound and heat insulation for the roof panel behind the headliner and under the back window behind the backboard. Packing peanuts as mentioned above will make it squeak and be noisy; they could also break down and settle. Another thing to consider is if they would interfere with the seatbelt operation by getting in the retractor mechanism.

Loose Steering Wheel Fix
AMCJeepMJ replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Nice write up. This would have been handy prior to my replacement of my entire column with a freshly rebuilt one the weekend before Christmas to remedy wobbly tilt. Oh well. Oh, and for those of you who don't know, those turn signal stalks pull straight out for removal. Just line up the wipers to the 'off' setting and give it a firm tug straight out.
