  1. I wanted to go from C to C but didn't want to go through the trouble of going on top of the axle since its temporary. I have a HP D44 waiting to be retubed,I plan to build a nice truss on top when I build the 4 link mounts. The truss seems to work well, and the loss of clearance isn't as much as I thought it would be but we will see when I get into the rocks.
  2. I considered it,I've got a few sets of XJ packs laying around. Problem with the shorter pack is I will lose some flex and I already don't like how the rear flex's vs the front.
  3. Thanks. The bed turned out pretty good, the hardest part was blending the inside of the bed. I don't care for having my springs so far behind the truck but I guess I have to live with it till I can get around to linking the rear.
  4. Got my hyd hand brake installed and all hooked up. It works awesome with the new disc brakes,it will ratchet and work as a park brake or I can disable the ratchet and use it to hold on a hill or obsticle. Now that I have brakes again I was able to drive around a bit and check out the new gears, with 4.88s its like a different truck.
  5. You have $3000 in a 2.8l? :hmm:

    Crazy mad flex

Its actually a Dodge Ramcharger with a Yota cab,the owner calls it a Dota. Its got a 318 and a 4spd.
  7. Eventually they will go I just wanted to get it together. I don't want to give up any travel so the shocks will go into the bed,but that's another project for later.

    New here

Last year a bunch of us went to the "Don't fear the Jeeper" show in Vancouver. It was nice to hang out with other MJ owners. We will have to do something again.
  9. FYI the Dakota seats sit level too. Mine don't because I wanted the buckets to sit lower which isn't an option with the Ranger seats.
  10. Was it this one?

    Crazy mad flex

Here is what a 33 looks like on top of a 42" tire
  12. I haven't updated this in forever. The MJ is now running 4.88s and locked front and rear. I trussed the front axle and finally got the D44 and disc brakes built and installed as well as a dual diaphram brake booster. I also bobbed about 16" off the bed. Its not done but getting there,I've driven it a little and the truck is much happier with the new gears.
  13. I've thought about it.I used to have a Ford ranger body on my Losi XX4, I still have the mount kit for the truck body
  14. That kit would be completely useless to you. If you lifted it that high nothing in that kit would be needed. Basically you would be paying over $600 for some 3" coils then putting pucks on top of them. My first MJ lift used 3" coils and 2.5" pucks(RRO),it didn't really match the height of my SOA. I ended up going 6.5" up front to make it sit how I wanted it.
  15. Usually you just build a simple truss over the Diff and intigrate the mount into it. Something like this
  16. I think either will be fine, we have a 135 and and 140 amp Lincoln at the shop for small stuff and they work great for what they are for. Our bigger welders are Hobarts we have a 250 MIG and 165 TIG,the 250 is one of the nicest welders I've ever used. We haven't had any issues with either brand.
  17. It went well,we had people show up both days and a few campers There was a good mixture of rigs but I had the only MJ. Here's a link with a few pics http://www.naxja.net/forum/showthread.p ... ion&page=7
  18. Have you been over on NAXJA? There is a section there just for doing what your trying to do.
  19. In the test they used the semi float D60,the weakest of all D60s. I would bet that a full float D60 is gonna be much stronger then an 8.8
  20. I don't think anyone is disputing that stock an 8.8 is stronger then a D44,It has a larger ring gear, larger pinion shaft, and larger axle shafts I just don't think its the right axle to run with 40" tires and a locker.
  21. Have you measured them both after they neck down? If my info is correct it should be 1.30" vs. 1.32". Which isn't much
  22. The OP wants a 38"-40" tire with a locker. An 8.8 isn't enough axle Yes people have ran 35s on D30s and D35s a lot of people also break them. HP44s are easy to come by and cheap,I have several of them sitting at the shop right now. The expensive part is getting one under your truck
