  1. You don't need to push the axle. Just turn the steering wheel with the trac bar disconnected and the body will move side to side.
  2. I used these on mine, they replace the license plate bolts. They work good and cost about $8.
  3. I think your off on your years,96 is the last year of the old body XJ. 97-01are basically the same. There would be no benefit to a 98 over a 97.
  4. I don't get the 98 thing either. 97 and up are the same, the late models are also structurally stronger and tend to make better wheelers. I wouldnt make the MJ a tow rig, although it could pull the weight its not nearly as safe as towing with a full size truck.
  5. I doubt it would be worth the trouble of mounting it. If you have the fab skills to make the proper mounts to put that on you could easily make a bumper that fits correctly.
  6. E30s are cool, I had an E28 for a while. They are neat cars.
  7. I considered swapping the auto but I can't bring myself to do it, I like the 5spd.
  8. Its a 4.3l TBI, plans changed and the donor won't show up till this weekend. I haven't seen it yet but it supposed to be 91 or 92ish. Its coming from an early 90s GMC Jimmy.
  9. Its hard to say for sure, most of the information on the swap pertains to Wranglers. I just planned on doing the drive shafts so there were no suprises.
  10. I have heard of that done on wranglers too. I haven't looked to see how hard it would be to move the engine forward on our trucks, I planned to use a 4.0l front drive shaft but I was doing a SYE so I was gonna have to make a rear drive shaft. Now I'm planning to swap a 4.3l so it doesnt matter for me anymore.
  11. Its about 2" longer so it will make the front too short and the rear too long. A lift will make the front worse, it will help in the rear but you won't be able to make up the 2" so it will need shortend anyway.
  12. here's another rig we did, this is just s few pics. http://thoseguysoffroad.com/tgorforum/index.php/topic,1174.15.html
  13. Not much of a build thread mostly just a photo album. But here is a rig we built at the shop last year. The pics arent organized very well and its probably best to go to the end of the album and work forward.
  14. Advanced adapters sells a conversion kit. Also keep in mind that an AX15 moves everything back about 2" so you will need to have your drivelines modified.
  15. 96-02 were the years the AMC 2.5l was used in the Dakota. No the chrysler and AMC 2.5L are unrelated. The Chrysler is just a larger version of thier 2.2l
  16. Its too old you want about a 98 or newer. Really unless you can find a deal on the parts its easier and not much more money to pay the $460 to buy the adapter and be done.
  17. I had planned to but I don't think I will make it this year
  18. I'm in Kalama Wa, but I work in Portland
  19. The 2.5l has been a great engine but I think its time for more power. The 4.3 should move the MJ pretty well.

    Where Are You?

We have discussed this before in the past. I bugs me too. Really its dumb not to, if you need help or parts or whatever usually a local member is willing to help you out. This club is a much more useful resource if people know where you are. There has been a few times ive given or loaned parts to local members or offered use of my shop to help them out. In fact at least once a year sometimes more we open our shop to local members free of charge to use the lift and other equipment to help with thier rigs.
  21. He said he has a Spartan.
  22. With no power going to the front axle the locker shouldnt be doing anything. I can't tell mine is there even in tight turns, I wonder if something is wrong with yours.
  23. An entire axle is a bolt in. Or you can add a seal to your existing housing and just bolt in the better shafts. I'm sure theres some write ups around here on it.
  24. I have a non cad D30 with a Spartan in my MJ, in 2wd you wouldnt know its in there. I also know several people with them and thay all say the same thing. As for upgrading axles its cheap depending how you do it. Some people just convert the cad axle to the stronger shafts,on mine I bought a late model XJ axle for $150 and bolted it in. You can also get aftermarket shafts that are even stronger but the prices start getting up there.
  25. This is a hack job mod. Do you know how a cad axle locks the 2 piece shafts? There is a tiny little collar that slides over the two halves locking the shafts together, by welding the gears you are putting a huge amount of stress on that little collar when in 4wd. Plus you will still have the weak 260 jounts. You will be way ahead ditching the cad
