  1. Most of it applies to The MPI engine anyway,if you contact Jeff he will add you but for most stuff the Facebook group is fine. The forum itself usually doesn't have a whole lot of activity.
  2. You can use the block/rotating assembly, cyl head, and a few other small parts. Very little will interchange besides the basic long block. When i put 95 injection on my 89 2.5l i had to strip the front of the block and swap everything from the timing cover out,all the front accessories are just different enough that they won't work, your manifolds and distributor will bolt right up. the 97 head may not be set up for the temp sender but i think it would just need tapped.
  3. Just join the Facebook page then message Jeff Yokomura, you will probably be on the 4bangerJP forums the same day.
  4. 91-96 look the same but are different than the 90 and earlier front ends. The header panel itself should fit the same though,it's everything that attaches to it thats a little different.
  5. I know we already talked about it on messenger but here is the ratios for an AX4,AX5 is the same but with .85 overdrive. 1st is almost 4:1 so it feels pretty deep,I think thats how i got away with 3.55s and 33s. Number of forward gears 1st Gear 3.93 2nd Gear 2.33 3rd Gear 1.45 4th Gear 1.00 Reverse 4.74
  6. So i got a tempting offer. A buddy picked up a 91 MJ with a 2.5l,since he knows that i like the 2.5ls he asked me if i would be interested in the 4banger parts because he is putting in a 4.0l. He will sell me everything to 2.5 MPI swap the MJ,I already have a 4.0l,AX15,wiring,and other parts for a 4.0l swap but I originally wanted to keep this truck a 2.5l. decisions decisions....
  7. I wouldn't worry about tracking down a 5spd.
  8. like i said,i didn't need a 5th with 4.88 and 33s. also keep in mind that a lot of AX5 failures have to do with 5th gear,i always figured i was better off with the AX4.
  9. I ran 4.88 with 33s and commuted on the freeway 90 miles a day,i could have sometimes maybe used a 5th gear but didn't really need it.
  10. 4.88 is as deep as an 8.25 can go so thats what you need. Still not deep enough though IMO.
  11. Did some mock up and made some templates for brackets,it's looking like I get to keep my retractable cup holders.
  12. 87 is an oddball, most 4 spds got 3.55 but i have seen 87s with the 4spd and 3.73s. I ran 4.88s with 33s and it worked ok,not sure if i would have liked it with 35s. Revolution gear is making 5.13s for the HP D30.
  13. I ran it for years on my MJ with no issues,i originally bolted them to my D35 and later welded the perches onto an MJ D44. I have seen thier bolt on soa fail on a YJ and twist an axle tube in the housing. the perches key into the stock perches,my MJ had cast stock perches, the YJ had stamped steel perches which bent and started to tear allowing everything to move around.
  14. the front bearing retainer must stay with the bellhousing so it will need moved too, otherwise everything will bolt right up. you will also likely need to regear the axles to use 5th gear.
  15. Here is a handy tool. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
  16. Already back up for sale again.
  17. Finally brought the MJ home, now I won't have to drive to Washington to tinker on it,should be able to make some more progress.
  18. got it of the lift and back on its tires,i hope to bring it home this coming weekend so i can tackle some of the little jobs.
  19. I believe we discussed this a bit on Facebook the other day. yes it will fit, actually just went the other way and put a 95 4.0l into a 2000 XJ.
  20. That's Johnathons truck,it's been for sale forever,he started around $8000 and has been working his way down. I have not seen it in person but others who have didn't seem too impressed with the build quality.
  21. Keep in mind that the truck had a factory rake, typically 6"-6.5" up front will make the truck sit level. I would put in the new coils and see where it lands.
  22. It could steer with them so with bump stops it would probably be driveable. Those also dwarf 40s,I think my truck could run 40s the way it is.
  23. I have 3.55s in my 4.0l 5spd XJ on 31s. It feels like i could still go deeper but it's much better than the 3.07s.
  24. I tossed some 44x18.50 TSLs on my MJ for fun, looked like other than longer bumpstops and a little trimming they would work on it. Its got 6.5-7" lift and sits on 37s normally. EDIT: found a pic with one of the 44s on it.
