Upper and Lower control arm questions...
mnkyboy replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I saw that, i was thinking its because they are a bent arm instead of straight. If they are as strong as they claim then they should be pretty stout arms,so far i havent been able to break anything ive got from them. -
here's some old pics of my setup at work before i got layed off.i reorganized everything when i went back to work so I'm gonna have to get a current pic, sucks the only pics i have and they are filthy.usually I keep them pretty clean.

Upper and Lower control arm questions...

the RRO fixed lowers look pretty strong they are $99 and have a lifetime warranty http://rocky-road.com/xjcontrol.html -
Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 602_263622 Little much on the price, but that would have really great quality, no tape to mess with, and you could even watch you driveway when away from home. Rob L. that would be better, but for now my $29.99 camera is gonna have to do  the pictures not bad ,I'm gonna get a little more light out in front of the garage. that should help. the audio is really good,i can hear people talking accross the street.

what would a 4cly with 3.09 be like?
mnkyboy replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm currently running 2.5L/4spd with 3.55's and 33X12.5 tires, Its not a rocket but it is way more powerful than i had expected it to be. with that said i can't wait to get new gears on the street with stockish tires i think you will be fine at least 1st through 4th gear. i don't think 5th will be much use as my 4th feels about how 5th should. -
can you get waterproof web cams? also my camera came with 80' of cable which i used most of.doesnt a web cam use a usb? could i get one long enough or could i wire it off a serial port with something like CAT5?

this weekend i went to harbor frieght and got one of thier night vision cameras. I have it hooked up to a VCR in my room,i set it up real fast last night so its gonna need some fine tuning but it seems to work. now i need to buy an alarm and another stereo.

If you want to ride bad enough you will figure something out. If i had too i could ride my father in laws artic cat 1000 without using reverse,I'm sure that weighs more then a KLF400 my brother had a lakota 300,basically a 2wd Bayou. it was a good quad, wasnt fast but it could pull like a tractor
-
:agree: I have 4 quads and not one has reverse,my Bombardier DS650 probably wieghs as much as yours and it doesnt even have it.

Just trim a little where it rubs. I had the same issue on my XJ at 2" of lift and wide offset wheels, unless you look really close you can't really tell its been trimmed and the rubbing is gone.

IIRC i knocked the pin out of the center of the rivets then drilled them,I'm trying to remember for sure how i ended up doing it but it only took about 5 min to remove all the rivets. i had the new regulator in and the truck together in like 20-30 min. mine was from an XJ and rivited in but i just used nuts and bolts instead.

I would rebuild it or if you don't mind pushing it out of parking spots just drive it,they will usually work in fwd gears long after rev goes out.

I went through this with a D50 4X4. I had a super clean D50 2wd sport body sitting on a rotten D50 4X4 frame. I got on craiglist and drove home a solid D50 4X4 for $150, problem solved I am not worried about frame repair, i have repaired frames and have built custom frames. But in this case i decided to get another frame. I could have fixed it but why when a solid frame was so cheap, i look at this truck the same way. what would it cost to just get a solid base to start from? IMO i would part the truck and build a different one or build one of your better trucks then start looking for a nice 4X4 instead of doing the 4X4 conversion.

I would look way cooler if you took that thing and put a chevy truck body on it

I have to work. not sure i want to take the MJ out till i get gears,it was ok on 31s with 3.55s but i think I'm asking for trouble with the 33s. It would be cool to go up there sometime,Ive ridden bikes and quads all over up there but never been on any of the truck trails.

88 Commanche in STL I want to customize and lift.
mnkyboy replied to BPD's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I can make bumpers,or my brother can as the bender is at his house. here's one we did for mine. i think he wanted to get about $350 for this style minus lights but he can make whatever you want -
you get used to the dark (also an excuse to buy lots of lites) and in the summer the lite never ends, its actually kind of empowering It is kinda cool that you can go outside at 2am and its still light out, unless your into the whole sleeping thing. I remember having to put tin foil over the windows at night to sleep.

I would carefully look over the rest of the truck before starting. it looks pretty rotten and if you rebuild the rear frame you gonna move the weakest link somewhere else. it would be a shame to do all the work just to have it break somewhere else.
-
you might verify the inspection thing before you do it. a full framed chevy is alot different then a unibody MJ
-
thats a pretty big project for having no budget and a Febuary deadline.
-
you could do it but for the time and money required you would be better off finding a more solid base to start from. truck looks like its got more issues then just the frame i don't know about up there but here MJs are cheap enough you shouldnt have to go that route
-
just replaced mine a couple months ago,$90 at NAPA you can also check wrecking yards,i picked up a nearly new reman for my XJ for about $25

I would guess Tillamook state forest. Rogers camp,is right next to Browns camp. It was my favorite place to ride dirtbikes, before a grenade went off in my engine case. havent been out there in a while :(
