Mnkyboys 89 Comanche project
mnkyboy replied to mnkyboy's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
I have no idea. I ran into a friend of the wifes on the christmas tree run and he asked if I wanted some old flairs off an XJ his brother used to have. He told me he thought they were stock and I could have them,I had the wife pick them up and those are what she brought home. I also got a factory skid plate from him for the XJ for $10- 798 replies

IMO the RE brackets are way overpriced, the RC brackets are priced better and include the braces but I would modify the braces to go back to the crossmember. I don't think either make MJ brackets so you will have to modify you truck to use either one. I made my own DBs and they work great but had I bought some I think i would have went with RROs MJ specific DBs

You had to expect a little crap, you only have a few post so nobody knows you or what your skill level is. You are new and although your not 16, from reading your other posts and pics you have to be young which was Darrens point. I'm sure you can imagine how many kids come on here asking basically the same thing you are. Your post was vague and you come across like you have little experience with long arms or suspension design. If you posted like you had done your homework you might have got a different reaction.

Thanks, Its coming along pretty good. Hopefully I will be able to order my new gears soon,I'm in worse shape then you currently as mine is a 4cyl 4spd giving me 3.55 gears. Still gets around pretty good even with the crappy gear ratio- 798 replies

Steel wheels are cheap, its the tires that get expensive

If he found an xj HP30 for $200 why would he buy a lessor TJ D30 for $350
-
No stock D30 has hubs, you just pull the lever and go. The disconnect has a lot of problems and most people remove them anyway so I would just get one without it. The disco also uses a two piece axle on one side that's weaker then the one piece non disco axle. No TJ should have come high pinion,YJs are but they are leaf sprung. The MJ/XJ HP D30 non diso with 297 joints is the strongest D30 you could get factory. Anything else will be weaker
-
I would get a D30 without the disconnect. Low pinion is weaker then high pinion, high pinion also will give you better driveline angles. Image Not Found See if you can find a D30 non disconnect with 3.55 gears from an XJ, I payed $150 for mine then buy a set of 4.10s (about $200) and have it regeared. Labor shouldn't be all that much as it doesn't take a professional long to do.

It would be silly to go through the trouble of an 8.8 swap in the rear just to put a crappy TJ or ZJ D30 up front. 2.8L and 2.5L XJs/MJs aren't that hard to find but if you can't then get a later model non disco D30 preferably with the bigger joints and have it regeared, its gonna cost more but your gonna have a decent axle when your done.

That's a Y-link radius arm, they wouldn't be that hard to make. Only thing is of all types of long arms they are the worst performing. If I were going through the trouble to build arms I would do some sort of 3 or 4 link set up
-
The search is handy but not always accurate,a couple weeks ago I went to a pick and pull looking for a fender for the wifes focus. The computer said they had two, when I got there the counter guy checked and also said they had two but they were both the wrong color. I figured I would check anyway, turned out they had five and two were the right color. So the inventory was way off, lucky for me it turned out to be in my favor.

The term long arm is very vague, there's a half dozen different types of suspensions that fall under the term long arm. Can't really answer your question without knowing what your planning to make. As for aluminum, those would have to be some huge arms to have the strength needed, they would probably cost more to build then an off the shelf LA kit. Have you ever seen a LA kit up close ? Even out of steel the arms are built pretty stout to handle the abuse.

, Thats not completely true. "car's center of gravity as close to stock as possible" source:http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10534 sorry for the Brandon That doesn't mean it was lifted, the tires alone would have changed the CG
-
here a zj that belongs to a guy i used to work with,it has the Iron rock critical path 5" or LA kit on it.
-
With 30psi in the highest cylinder I would expect more issues then just "no get up and go". If its a 4cyl 5spd it should have 4.10 gears,so you could get your money back just out of the d35.

Those are warrior products tube doors,I've seen them upclose and they look pretty good

Cup Holder for XJ/MJ console
mnkyboy replied to 1987Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have one in the XJ,it holds cans and small cups ok but most bottles and larger cups don't fit in it. -
I looked up the specs on the t-cases and here's what I found. 231 maximum torque capacity is 1885ft lbs vs the 242 at 1486ft lbs
