Brake rotors the wrong size??
Automan2164 replied to 1tonMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As long as it stops... Why bother? How long until the axle swap? Rob L. -
Umm, maybe I missed something here, but... What brand/part number is on the old filter? Rob L.

If you spin the tire, it creaks? As in rotate, not turn the steering wheel? If so, then its a unit bearing, or dust shield on the brakes... Not ball joints. Rob L. -
Brake rotors the wrong size??

Can't you do them and save the cash? Hubbed rotors are cake... Also, are you sure you need rotors? Since you stated that your going to swap axles soon, why not just "pad slap" it until you put the new axles in? Rob L. -

Nice looking truck, and a decent price for what it is. I would go take a look if I were closer... Rob L. -
Thinking about a new front axle
Automan2164 replied to MjAllTheWay's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If all you need is ball joints, then just replace them. The tie rod ends, and your creaking are most likely not axle related. Ball joints are like $20 each, and tie rods the same... Why put in a used axle you don't know the history of? Going to be a lot of work to replace a whole axle just for some ball joints. Rob L. -
O.P.... Any updates? Or are you just going to leave us hanging? Rob L. :dunno:

Brake rotors the wrong size??

So do you have 2 or 4WD? Prices from O'Reilly's: 2WD: $31.99 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0062 4WD: $39.99 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0062 These are just the base, house brand rotors... and your price. If you look at the "Wagner" 2WD rotors, they are 89.99 ea, and I bet the shop where you took your stuff to is selling it to you at "list" at around $100. I always say use quality stuff in the front, I.E. Raybestos, Wagner... Etc, since it takes all the heavy braking and heat. The rears are the only place I will put a house brand brake component. More often than not I do a side job on fronts with house brand stuff, and it squeaks, rattles, or warps quick. I usually warn people, but they never heed the advice. :smart: Rob L. -

Hate to say it, but I have a sweater vest I can never take off. ;) When I started dating my girlfriend, I used to shave and man-scape the ol' chest, but then just let it go... Shaving leaves a close "look" but after a day, it looks like your chest has a five-o-clock shadow... Few years ago, we had to stay at a hotel/water park, and rather than look like a yeti (I now have some good thatch on the back and shoulders :ack: ) I went and got the upper body wax on my chest, back and shoulders... It really wasn't painful at all. 40 Year old virgin plays it up a bit. Got it all off, but boy does it feel weird when your shirt actually "lays" on skin rather than on the sweater vest. I did break out in some little red bumps, but they went away in a week or so. Haven't been under the hot wax since though. Now that I have been with my GF for 5 years, I could care less about what she thinks... If we were ever to go on vaca again, I might just do the back and shoulders again, but eh... If your fearing the pain, don't it ain't that bad... Rob L. 8)

Again, I am going to end up going against the grain here. I like it. It appears to be well built, and has gotten excellent reviews. It's not what we like as a group, but its made to compete with luxury suv's... you can't be equal in ride with a set of solid axles. It's less about what we as enthusiasts want anymore, its about what will sell. I think that it has potential to do well. As for the euro plate thing, take a look next time you are cursing down the road. Cherokee's have it, blazers have it, caravan's have it... most small domestic cars have provisions for it. I like the commercial, and feel that it does what they are trying to do, and instill some pride into an American product. Fiat designed or not, its still built in America, by Americans. HMMWV Rear axle? Rob L. -
Thanks, now I miss my Dodge Diplomat. Rob L.

Ebay is a decent place, as is JCwhitney... but be aware, that none are direct fit, or the same quality... What's wrong with the carpet you have now? They do pretty well in a commercial washer... Rob L.

Yep, and its anyone's guess when or what they started and ended at for the lines. Comanche's and Cherokee's both rolled off the same line in Toledo, and had sequential numbers... Rob L.

Ok... you should know the rules by now. You can post that without expecting a :needpics: ... Rob L.

Differential Case Spreader
Automan2164 replied to 500 MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
With your background Brent, and your "handy" nature, I would believe you could build one stronger and cheaper than anything store bought. But, every time I have done bearings or seals, usually, the carrier comes out with a decent sized prybar, and back in with a nice dead-blow... Never used the spreader. IMHO. Rob L. -
