can I convert a sable spedo to electronic
Automan2164 replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry if I couldn't help here, but I just don't see the benefit. I too, am an electrical whiz, as I am the go-to guy for that at work, but just don't see the benefits of trying to convert. Sure, you won't have to deal with a cable for the few times one might have to take the cluster in or out... But, in order to get the speedo to work, it would require a bunch of extra work... Fabbing in a gauge, pinning out the wires, running new wires, finding an alternate route to do cruise, if you want to keep it, working out the printed circuit board... In my mind, the work out weighs the benefits. All that, just so you don't have to mess with the cable, maybe once a year? Seems a little  to me, but if you wish to continue, I have the wiring diagrams for a '92 MJ with the electronic speedo, and can lend advice as you go. Rob L. -
And let's let all this go under the bridge now, before it gets pulled. We know how everyone stands. We should have been done with the mess when the boss said it was done a few posts ago. Not to be a kill-joy here, but no more. :shake: Back to topic... so you friend won't let you trade him a bunch of stuff, but instead get a measly couple hundred for scrap instead? Some friend. I would see if you could make payments to him for what he's going to get out of scrapping it. Rob L.

Sending units are not interchangeable, but you can put an XJ tank in to the MJ, if you just want to put it in the bed. It will not bolt up underneath, but a few members are just running XJ tanks up by the front of the bed. I believe that you have to match the pump to the engine... Renix 4.0, HO 4.0, 2.5L... Rob L.

We didnt exactly hammer on tha tank but my son did lay on tha ground and kick it a few times. I'll try it again using a rubber mallet. I'd hate to just start throwin money at it but at this point I'm thinkin tha hell with it and go ahead and order a pump off ebay. We're only talkin $33 bucks. But do you really want to cheap out on an item in which you might have to drop the tank again if it fails? Rob L.

Is there a trailer harness now, or ever been one on the truck? Rob L. -
I don't care who gets it, as long as it doesn't get scrapped. :( Rob L.

Speaking of, how's the cherokee and the kid looking lately? Rob L.

amish place with a 3 "car" garage? Yep. They even wired the place up. I mean, they have to make money too. Not much market for a candle lit 3 story cabin. Amazing. Rob L. ;)

I think the tentative plans are I will be there at 8 am, finish up Pat's blue cherokee, take it to the yard, then get the 2 door that I sold him stripped and ready to go. Probably going to be an all day thing. Come anytime. Rob L.

Where's Jimoshel?!?!? He'd be on this like stink on $#!&. Rob L.

if my truck was made in 85, does that make it and 85 manche?
Automan2164 replied to MancheKid86's topic in The Pub
Nope. Factories usually switch over models sometime in may. So an 86 comanche was most likely made from 5/85 to 5/86. That's part of the reason you'll see 2011 cars in the showroom in September. They are already building them. Rob L. -
I would like to get a meet and greet going, but it seems like everyone is busy every weekend. Any interest in doing anything or an LKQ run? Rob L. :dunno:

i think rob has the reference, spit it out brotha. Reference? To what? "This has got to be you... You spray that thing for bugs?" Rob L.

You need to bleed the system properly. Park it facing downhill, and let it cool. Top off the bottle, and pull the rear temp sender in the head. Fire it up, and once you start getting coolant out, put the sender back in. I bet you have an air bubble in it with all that new stuff. My bet is that the you never knew the proper bleed procedure. The renix's, like yours, are real finnicky with air in the coolant. Rob L.

They aren't styled so much, but usually when I have them out and about, I snap a pic. I think thats it for all the easily accessible ones. Rob L.

can I convert a sable spedo to electronic
Automan2164 replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sure its not a 231? If all you need is the "center part" just go get the whole sender and gear assembly from the yard, and put back in the cable. There is nothing wrong with a cable driven speedo. Rob L. -
Sounds like you could be building exhaust pressure, and letting it sit equals it out. Maybe try taking the exhaust loose at the downpipe before the cat and see what happens. Rob L.
