  2. Brings an old saying to mind : Life ... " this ain't no dress rehearsal , this is real life ! " . I'm glad to see you are going at it at a full gallop
  3. You mention a wire burning smell , might be the wire going down to sensor on the bellhousing ( crank / engine speed sensor ) . I have encountered this problem in the past where the wire lays against the exhaust ( hence the burning smell ) and cured it by installing a Nomex sleeve to protect the replacement unit wires from damage .
  4. :clapping: Now that looks like 4k with out a doubt
  5. Had a few different wives but only 1 MJ  ( BTW I recently found out Wives have a " Best Before Date " just under the hairline at the nape of the neck......now you tell me ! )
  6. Most likely just the tanks are plastic , I've had one in my MJ for 6 years with no issues .
  7. I believe the rad support changed in 87/88 . Which engine do you have ?
  8. Their gone :huh???: Yup our " Don't offend anybody " Government decided to re-name back to the original what " first nations " ( indian ) called these islands back in the day when they were the most feared and notorious Slave Traders on the west coast as far south as California . Haida Gwai :???: :ack:
  9. :Canadaflag: The game results were not we hoped for here in Vancouver , but the the best team won ! The worst loss was our pride in our city going up in flames , as the world watched rioting thugs go amok in down-town Vancouver . :( :shake: :shake: :shake:
  10. I used a tapered feeler gauge blade (45 degree w/ no sharp edges to cut the rubber ) from the outer edge and down to deflect the lower edge of the grommet , then slowly lifted the upper edge up with a flat blade screwdriver while moving the feeler blade in the opposite direction . The grommet just sort of screws itself out . Slow and easy does it

    New Ride

:D Went up country to visit old friends a few weeks ago at the the O.K. Cattle Ranch in the B.C. Cariboo . Ol' compadre Cow-boss Al announced , your faithful workin' pardner "Montana" is retired , front end is stiffen up , time to let him just eat grass and enjoy the good life . By the way , says Al , we should introduce you to your "workin' pardner" , took the liberty of buying him for you , hope thats o k ?....So here's my new ride " Tid -Bit " , AQH sorrel gelding coming 5 yrs.
  12. Last week actually , :wrench: Installed a brand new galvanized gas tank and straps . The last trip up-country pounding down those forestry roads was the last straw for my 21 year old rusty/dented tank , my buddies had a good laugh at my road-side shade tree fix using a bar of soap and many layers of aluminum tape , but I got home with it
  13. Same thing on my 2.5 turned out to be the timing chain :dunno:
  14. Another option is a adjustable thermocouple switch/relay . I used "Flex-o Lites" pusher fan with thier adjustable switch/relay and it works flawlessly
  15. :D Absolutely luv mine , the most practical mod for my varied use of my MJ
  16. I'm going back & forth between "VW Vortex" & "Passat World" :dunno: The problem is I've been spoiled by our Comanche Club forum
  17. :smart: Just a reminder about RTV silcone sealant ....Do not use acedic cure (type 1-smells like vinegar ) on anything electrical . Use only neutral cure (type 2-very little odor ) as the curing will not corrode elec. connecters , also adheres to plastics better.
  18. :agree: Preventive maintenence beats the alternative every time
  19. Thanks , I'll check them out . I appreciate the caution on the Tip-tronic , but it sure is tempting to get on the loud pedal and start banging shifts  $$$$ Great car , we're luvin' it ( so far ) Gord -IBT loc 31
  20. Hi guys , any body here have an opinion ( did I really ask that ) on VW forums ? Trying to find a forum as good as this one ! Just bought a 2000 VW Passat GLS Sportwagen - V6-4motion-Tiptronic for my bride , a small step up from Ford Escort wagon . Gord
  21. :Canadaflag: Well done , Thankyou for serving our country
  22. There is a good write-up here http:/gojeep.willyshotrod.com/index.htm or just go with the " e-auto " up grade harness for about $20
  23. Looks good , but inevitably you will be doing it again  Next time re-inforce the panel with a layer of fiber-glass mesh and simply paint it with flat / texturized acrylic ( Fusion ) . A small roller will give the texture simular to fabric .FWIW  Your doing an amazing job on this project ! I'm addicted to this thread
  24. :wavey: Welcome , prices vary greatly with area , condition , model , so listing your location will help you get info from members most familiar with that market
