inline filler neck on a renix coolant system
Comanche County replied to sinkrun's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Agree, my 89 4.0 with a closed system runs steady at the thermostat temp - 190. Its all original and cools much more efficiently than my old 96 XJ 4.0 auto which would nearly overheat in summer traffic, I was scared to drive it in the city. But the 89 runs steady in summer traffic or down the highway. The temp guage never moves. Its not a difficult system to manage, except that I've had to burp it a couple of times. I just loosed the hose clamp a bit, then squeezed down on the hose until I thought I had all the air out. Both systems are probably fine as long as they're in good shape and the radiator flows well. I think an auto tranny and the a/c on full blast in stop and go traffic will make any vehicle a little warm. -
I'm in Iraq, my jeep is in Texas, so all I did today was 'think' about it....

If you're not one, you will be if you listen. Fred Eaglesmith is, dare I insult the coveted Celine Dion, the best thing outta Canada. When you hear him, you'll think Western PA or West Texas maybe, but he's all Southern Ontario. While I was on leave from Iraq for a couple of weeks, I was working on the Manche, listening to my Fred catalog. Songs about Cars, Trains, Engines (big and small), Farming, a few gun songs (no, not the dumb redneck gun songs), and other great Americana/ hard charged folk.... His stuff I also dare say is of comparable artistic quality to Johnny Cash's American recordings...but he can be somewhat of an acquired taste. Check out the reviews on amazon.com. So join the Fred-Head revolution, prop up the hood, get your tools, and crank up the "Georgia Overdrive". Your jeep will love you for it.

If you're interested in the details of this debate, watch Ben Stien's Movie about Intelligent Design. He breaks down the theory of evolution at its starting point gives you the odds and lets you decide. Really a great movie and not done in a religious fashion.

Creation definitely. Mates, I cannot look up to the night sky and not believe in God. I could not, when on a patrol and trembling with fear, and pulling my feet up to my crotch out of the Humvee floor board for fear of mines, and not pray to a God. Even though I couldn’t save a 21 year old PVT named Kenny Rojas, 23 year old Joshua Kynoch and 9 others under my charge or in my area, I do not blame God and/or attribute it to casual consequence. I hate telling war stories, but I can’t explain how an explosion will tear through an armored vehicle killing (shredding to very small pieces) all but one or two Soldiers who come out unscathed. That my friends, is the grace of God. I’ve seen it. I cannot find any living person on this planet who would listen to me without disgust about all the dirty, rotten, and plain wrong things I’ve done except God. If you’ve never done anything “that bad” maybe you don’t have that problem. Maybe you do? I honestly cannot find that one person whom I can be completely 100% honest with. Thank God, I don’t have to “act” to God. I can’t find a hero who hasn’t let me down in some way except for Jesus. The more I know about people, the more they let me down. When I try to put myself in the situations he was in; I, nor any man I know living or in history, would be able to match his courage, candor, eloquence, strength or wisdom. If one reads the first four books of the New Testament, the same conclusion might be drawn. Or one could come to one of many cliché conclusions: “too good to be true”, “fairy/folk tale”, etc. But that’s where faith comes in. Is there really a heaven, forgiveness, redemption, piece of mind and all those free but priceless things in life we strive for but never really obtain? Not without faith. Everyone puts faith in something to some measure. But in 35 years, I haven’t found something better to put my faith in. I cannot explain how my daughter who was born with a severely debilitating congenital condition called Arthrogryposis, is almost walking normally and is a super bright and beautiful kid at eight years old now. Despite literally being born with all her limbs twisted backwards and no developed hip sockets. It’s really a miracle. It really is. The first doctor we had recommended abortion. I am a C+ Christian at best; and if you knew me the way I know me, you’d agree that I'm the one that should be the preachee not the preacher. And C+ I think, is about as good as I’m ever gonna be…as opposed to the popular culture standards I (we) are held to. The great thing is, C+ is good enough. For as screwed up as I am (I won’t lie, but I darn sure ain’t tellin any details), I know I’m saved, I know there’s a God and a heaven. I’m back in Iraq now, facing divorce, and my own financial and medical issues, the pending death of my father, and a ton of other crap the world has put on me. So I’m going outside to smoke a cigar and chill for a bit and talk to the Galilean. The same guy that puts twinkle in the stars and beating hearts in sonogram monitors. Same guy that makes ladybugs. I cannot look up to the night sky and not believe in God.

I hit the lottery Suckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True, but only a slight cheapskate moment. I don't have them often because I'm actually too poor to be a real cheapskate. Plus, $20 was better than nothing though isn't it? Figures a fellow Texan would call it correctly, thanks brother. -

I let a truck stop waitress pick a random dollar ticket for me once....I buy a dollar ticket once a year or so.... I didn't even scratch it cause I didn't want to waste my time. I gave it back to her and asked her just to scan it to see if it was a winner. It won $100 bucks! I was feeling a little generous and she was kinda sad lookin so I tipped her $20 bucks for picking the winner. About an hour down the road though, with 80 bucks in my pocket instead of 100, I experienced a little bit of altruistic-remorse and wanted my $20 bucks back. Dangit! -
Ok guys, I've been out of the loop for a while. I took a job in Iraq, moved from Colorado (dang all those wonderful trails), my MJ is sitting all by its lonesome down at the parent's place in Texas and Dad is going to keep it going for me. I get pretty decent leaves, so when I'm home next I plan on swapping out the front dana 30 finally. I've got an 8.8 in the rear and I've wanted a front 44 or 60 to replace the D30. But I haven't been able to find a F250/350 with an available front axle at the same time I had the money. I'm running 33's and they look smaller each time I look at them,,,,the truck is begging for bigger tires but I want a front axle that'll handle something bigger maybe 37s-39s. Well, I'm sitting here in my hooch planning for the day I can do it, scouring the internet and I find this site: http://www.killeraxles.com/html/dana___ford_achsen.html A guy in Germany builds front Ford 8.8s. Check out the pics. I think its an interesting idea, if not novel, but also pretty strong. It would sure be unique to have an 8.8 in the front. I emailed him and he replied right back. He said its 1000 euro (~1,400 Greenbacks) for the housing and about 300 for shipping from Germany to TX. He said he's stopped making them because he is so busy but has one left. The one in the picture doesn't have the upper control arm attaching points. I've sent him a follow up question to confirm if he puts them on or not,,,my gut is telling me that you must use the uppers or your axle will get out from underneath the Jeep under torque. That is unless it is designed to use some other tri-link style set up. I don't know that yet, still waiting on his reply. I also asked him about the axle shafts and the outers that are supposed to go with it. Right now, this isn't my first option, I'm still looking for a leaf sprung HP 44 or 60 from a F250 or F350. (Actually Dad is doing the looking while I'm out of the country,,,I think) If I can't find one, then I'll go with a HP 44 out of an F150 like Pete's ride. But since I saw this, I'm wondering if its worth it. Plus its fun to think about crazy jeep mods no matter if they come true or not - right!. I've seen decked out HP 44s and HP60s cost a lot more than what he's asking and I think the strength would be at least comparable (or close to and acceptable given the cost). Plus there's the novelty factor to think about too.....me and a couple of buds - doing this  on the hood of my MJ - and me telling BS stories like, "yeah the front 8.8 was a rare option that you had special order, and I was dating the daughter of one of the Ford Executives at the time..." you know???? So what do you think? Is this a viable option considering cost and I don't have a welder, resources, or the time? Just throwin it out there....

Man, that is a real bummer. What a fighter, I'll have to watch the three Gatti/Wards again in tribute. He wasn't the best, but one of the best to watch....real exciting fighter. you couldn't help but root for the guy.
-
Yeah, I know him, He's a legend in boxing. He's all three of the Gatti-Ward fights packed into one human being. De La hoya would have never had a chance against him....too bad God didn't save him for the current day so he could give a shellackin' to that punk Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Gave the MJ a fresh face lift this weekend

I love the Waggy four headlight look. I know they don't put out as much light, but I've got the KCs and Hellas for that. I found a nice waggy front end at the yard once, went back a week later to get it all and they crushed it..... :fs1: -
What size front speakers?
Comanche County replied to bigalpha's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The hole pattern is the industry standard for 4x6s I believe. I matched to it to every 4x6 at Best Buy but didn't get any because they were too expensive. Any 4x6 should go right in there. Some are actually 4"x6" speakers, some are smaller speakers with a 4x6 plate and hole pattern. My cerwin-vegas that I put in were actually too deep by about 1/4" and the magnet rubbed the outer sheet metal of the truck so I fanagled a cardboard spacer for them. -
wow, looks straight! Nice truck,,,,I bet there's some guys drooling over that unmolested rear bumper.
-
I did a SOA with an 8.8 and I used a stock YJ rear line. But the link above does look longer...
-
If you want 3.73s, look for an older xj with a v6. But, I'd hold out for a 4.10 front axle from a 4 banger if I had to do it again....

There's a good site with tons of original factory tech sheets in pdfs. I downloaded them all but I'm trying to find the site. I think it was Greatlakesxj.com. for general info on stats...its all here on good ole cclub.com....just search

What size front speakers?
Comanche County replied to bigalpha's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For 4x6's for the pillars grab the infinity front door speakers out of a Grand Cherokee at a JY. I pulled a pair of nice Cerwin-Vegas our of a ZJ. Also, do take your time and do not pry out the back panel or the B Pillars of your MJ. There's a couple of tricky screws to locate and you'll be tempted to pull and pry. Just find all the attaching points and take your time. The pillars will practically fall out if you do it right. Just replaced mine....kind of a pain, since I had to pull out my interior roll cage and I did break a couple of plastic peices.... :fs1: -
A lot of options for coils: - older ford trucks: late 70s F150s - firm but do provide about the amount of lift you have. Tons of these in the yards. See http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Sus ... t_Lift.htm - ZJ Grand Cherokee Up Country springs or any Grand Cherokee V8 springs -- get all the steering links too. - Motion Offroad, RE, or any of the aftermarket guys have em pretty cheap.

UPDATE!!!!!! Here's my recommendation for oil filters!!!! I changed my oil yesterday and got great results! I had already ditched the Fram filters and went with Purolators. I had first put in the Purolator with the gold colored textured finish so it was easy to spin by hand ( I don't remember the p/n). Yesterday I put in the Purolator Premium Plus p/n L30001. Its the white smooth textured one. My oil pressure shot up to 22 at idle and 45-50 above 2000 rpm prior to being fully warm, the settled in at 37-42 or so when warm over 2000 rpm on the highway. I'm stoked, now the oil pressure gauge actually reacts to rpms when I rev the engine and no longer sits as 18-20 regardless of rpm. So with the Purolator L30001 I am getting almost double the oil pressure. This filter obviously flows more, I can't say if it is actually filtering any better. But more oil flow is better! So my vote for oil filters from here on out is the L30001! I'm happy, I'm going to buy some beer tonight ---- woohoo!!! -
I feel dumber just from reading that ad.

Check out the description of this Cherokee from a CL ad: http://denver.craigslist.org/bar/1169794821.html ----"i have a nice jeep i need to trade for a truck 2 wheel are 4 jeep leaks are uses no oil moving to ala need truck to pull trailer one owner 6 cyl auto power everthing works goodyear tires pioneir stero perfer extra cab 303 507 #### needs to run good looks not to important" Would you buy from someone who has a driver’s license, actually drives, but lacks 2nd grade literacy? I’m becoming more and more afraid that morons like this may be in the lane next to me. :hmm: He or she might be a great American, but if you can't read or write, why publish your ignorance? :dunno: OK, I'm done, sorry for the rant.
