  1. I think I like that one best.
  2. Real nice truck!!!
  3. Thinking of doing the same thing with my MJ 44 and have been collecting info for a while now....here's a couple of misc links. I haven't decided exactly how I'm going to do mine yet. I might just stick with the drums,,,,its a $$$ thing. http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/te ... csOnXJ.htm http://www.iitp.com/techcenter/reardisk ... ersion.htm http://jeepin.com/features/cvdiscs/index.asp
  4. That's not a Gladiator! Gladiators were full size true man trucks,,,,that's a next gen Scrambler. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just doesn't ooze the mantastic amounts of beer guzzling, stump pulling, door kicking, barn bustin power of an old Gladiator. I still like it though...
  5. I'll be gettin a header soon......
  6. My brother and I are rebuilding the axles in his 84 CJ7. He's got a wide track AMC-20 with one piece shafts that we're putting 4.56s into. Its got a Lockright in it. But when the axle bought the farm previously he ended up losing the shear pins and springs for it. Anyone know the part number for a Lockright for an AMC 20 or do you know how to obtain the pins and springs? I imagine we may be able to get them at the hardware store but I want to get the right ones and I want to be exact. We called the Richmond Gear/Powertrax/Lockright folks and they said they couldn't help us without p/n's. :wall: Thanks, Jay
  7. The two I really like is the leatherman and the SOG Trident. I've gotten away from the Rambo knives although they do have a purpose for self defense, camping and hunting, and it is nice to be able to hack through tough material, small trees, or deer bones with a bigger knife,,,, But, that biggo knife hangin off your side may not be practical for your purposes. I like leathermans because I once lost a Super Leatherman behind the damn at Possum Kingdom lake in about 12 feet of water. I dove down and lost in it all the vegetation that I stirred up looking for it.....one year later, I went back to the same spot, jumped in and this time there wasn't a mass of vegetation and found it immediately. It had some river gunk caked on it but the blades were still razor sharp and it wasn't rusted. I cleaned it up and it was as good as new after being submerged for a year.......later on some jerk stole it from me at work. I like the SOG Trident Tanto and carry it everywhere I go. Its a great blade, it opens as fast as an auto and I can pull, open, use in one motion, its for protection only and has never been used - knock on wood. I also have a Benchmade Auto. Its an awesome knife. I prefer not to carry it though.
  8. Well I can account for front and rear bumpers and a set of short sliders,,,,I think they're great looking quality products,,,I expect them in the mail in a week or so. Heck, I might order another rear for my MJ trailer...haha
  9. Hey guys, thanks for the continued well wishes. I need em. I'm doing a lot better now and I'll fly to the States on Monday or Tuesday and I'll finish my in-patient recovery in the Temple, TX VA hospital....its close to home and Mom and Dad will be able to visit often. I tried to get into the Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio but unfortunately they are overbooked with amputees coming back from the wars,,,,since I'm not active duty anymore I'll have to settle for the VA but they've got a good relationship with the CftI for the latest info on prosthetics and I'm confident I'll get good treatment and something state of the art to walk on. If not I'll need someones machining skills...I'm thinking I'll need at least one or two 'novelty' legs for S&Gs anyway,,,,maybe a couple of Jeep crank rods or machine gun barrel legs.
  10. Thanks guys, means a lot to me and many others too.
  11. Thanks Guys.
  12. Thanks for the outpouring of support guys. That was a good idea about the project build....I'll have to do one about my prosthetic. I'll be sure to use Jeep only parts,,,,but it will have a CC sticker on it guaranteed! I'm trying to go to the San Antonio VA hospital because of its proximity to the Center for the Intrepid at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston. Its a $50M facility for amputees and burned soldiers coming back from the wars. I may end up in the Temple VA just because its closer to home. I'm sure there's a civilian hospital somewhere in DFW with a great prosthetics program which would be about the same distance from home. I just don't know where/how to shop for it.
  13. Thanks for the support guys. This has been rough one, I've had some excruciating nights, and found out I'm not as tough as I thought I was. I have to consider myself lucky compared to the double or triple amputee and burned guys,,,I can't even imagine the pain they go through.
  14. Well Guys, I did two tours (12+15 months) in Iraq as an Infantry Officer and didn’t get a scratch on me (not on the surface anyways),,,, I decide to hang it up and join the civilian ranks, move to Colorado, then I get a nice offer out of the blue to go back as a contractor, I take it back in May. Things are going well, I work mostly on the FOB, Victory in Baghdad, which was a welcome change. I had my fair share of excitement on the other trips. So I’m eating well and I make it to the gym consistently. I’m getting in decent shape. I got my leg press up to 630 lbs………5 days later I got my lower right leg amputated, not from enemy fire oddly, but from a MRSA infection. It hit me hard and was merciless. I’m not sure but it could have been a spider bite on my foot. I had a small blister like spot on my foot that I didn’t think much about. I put bacitracin on it and kept it covered. I already had half a foot from a childhood accident and the grafted skin on my foot was sorta prone to blisters and it wasn’t out of the ordinary. Then I got a fever lasted 3 days which would spike at night up to 103-105. This was from the 10-13th of Oct. I stubbornly kept trying to break the fever, which I did several times. Then on the night of the 13th, my foot swelled tremendously and I knew I was in trouble. I remembered the little blister that wouldn’t go away and instantly thought spider bite, I had another back in August. I thought the swelling would go down overnight but no joy, on the morning of the 14th, I couldn’t even get out of bed….I called a friend to take me to the aid station. They transported me over to the BIAP CSH (CSH think MASH), and the doctors immediately operated on my foot to clean out the infection. The next day, the doctors and I were weighing my options: I had two: amputate or try to save the foot. They had done cultures and knew this was a MRSA infection and would travel up my leg and kill me or turn septic and kill me, either way, if they couldn’t stop the infection I would have been done for. We took the dressings off from this first cleaning and I noticed about a 2-3” circular burn on the back of my calf. It looked and felt like a bad burn with a thin layer of skin sloughing off. I pointed it out to the doctor and asked him if I could have been burned in the surgery, he saw it and said the skin was necrotizing (dying). Our decision was made, the infection spread hard overnight, despite the surgery to clean out my foot and the antibiotics, we were going into amputate. I also had several red swollen and extremely tender spots all around my lower leg up to my knee. About 5 hours later I woke up from the surgery, with no foot….but this stopped the spread of the infection, and it’s impossible to explain how much better I felt. I was glad to be alive, anymore messing around to try and save my foot could have allowed it to spread or go catastrophically septic. They shipped me to Landstuhl, Germany where I’ve been since the 17th. This is mostly a short stop-over to stabilize wounded troops before they’re sent to Walter Reed. I had several more washout surgeries of my leg and they closed it last week. I’m just now starting to be able to manage the pain…..I tell you, it was almost unbearable when I first arrived here and this has tested me like nothing before. But I should fly home in a couple of days to continue my recovery. I’ll probably go to the San Antonio VA Hospital… Anyways guys, I think I might want to look at a newer ride with an Auto transmission, maybe a WJ, I used to have one and despite its quirky electrics, I really liked it. Plus, my 89 Manche was a Colorado truck,,,no AC. Anyone have one, maybe we can work out a deal. Jay
  15. Awesome racing man!
  16. :clapping: awesome!
  17. Great stuff...
  18. Ooh, repairs in extreme weather,,,,I sense a spinoff coming.
  19. My best non auto store parking lot repair was a 90's Geo Metro. The motor was screwed, so we tore into it, all 3 cylinders of that beast. Before long, we thought why not just take it out, so we reached in and did. Pulled the motor by hand. I think by buddy put rings in it later and had it going again.
  20. Wow,   I don't know who's the king now,,,I guess this is in our DNA.
  21. Yes,,,the ultimate...
  22. Right on,,,so do I, ,,after all its a truck.
  23. Ooh spring packs,,,,that's impressive. Definitely grittier than than the ignition switch, but not at an auto parts store, however, it must have been a nice sight to see the axle hangin out of the jeep, so....I'll go ahead and step down....unless someone wants to enforce the auto store rule,,,I'm kinda makin this up as I go. reson46 is now King of the Parking Lot Repair.
  24. Ok, just for fun.... Until proven otherwise by better testimony,,,I'm declaring myself "king of the parking lot repair". If you've done a bigger job in the parking lot of the auto parts store then please by all means relate your story and I'll relinquish my crown to the rightful king. If it becomes contested, then I guess will have to get Pete to settle it. Its usually a frowned upon thing :fool: to fix your ride at the store, but sometimes it just can't be helped...(mostly because I could never afford a tow) I've done a couple alternators, a few batteries, a water pump, but the one a while back that took the longest was the ignition switch. I went in to Napa, bought the switch, then persuaded them to loan me a steering wheel puller. The clerk said, "you can't do this here". The problem was the switch completely broke right when I pulled in, I couldn't unlock the wheel or get power. I told her, "no prob, it'll only take me about 15 minutes". I went out to the MJ and about 2 hours and some irate Napa employees later  , I was back on the road. I'm sure someone can take the crown,,,,anyone done a transmission, what about a whole engine?
  25. Ha ha, yeah, Fred is an acquired taste for most. But no one beats his car and train songs.
