  1. I had the same issue, nothing in the back worked right. I found several bad fuses and broken fuse terminals in the fuse block. I didn't replace the fuse block, but replaced/repaired some of the fuse terminal connections, then wala - the lights worked again.
  2. OK, :dunno: I think I finally found my 258 engine donor for my stroker crank and rods. But I'm not sure if its a 258 or a 232. Its in a 75 CJ5, but I think its a replacement engine. The jeep looks rough like someone parked it under a tree and let trash and leaves collect in it. Sorry, didn't have a camera with me, but here's some of the codes stamped into it: Drivers Side on the block under the manifold: FF 32354444 On the intake: N 3225202-1 Pass side on the block stamp plate: 03-C29 If someone can confirm its a 258, then I'm yankin it apart tomorrow! Thanks! Jay
  3. I've got Polk Audio 4" door speakers, they sound awesome, probably the best 15 bucks (from a pawn shop) I've spent in a while. They sound as deep as my 2x MTX 10" subs powered by a sony 600w amp. Not too worried about decibels, I can't hear anyway,,,,,,right ear is good, left is not so good,,,,some Arab friends of mine kept trying to blow me up always on the left side of the road dangit! Anyway, I have zero room behind the seats now. The system is really too loud, I can't turn it up for any extended length of time cause it gives me a headache and makes my jaw/teeth feel weird....so I keep it low most of the time, but enjoy being able to rock out when required. I'll throw some pics up after work. Good idea on the Grand Cherokee overhead console. What year did it come out of? I have no headliner in the truck, just the roof metal. A headliner is on the list.....
  4. Yeah, Steve McQueen was a huge MJ guy,,,,,the original escape scene was actually cut out of the Great Escape, what actually happened was Steve Mcqueen cleared the barb wire fence on the bike but the landing was a little too hard to continue on it, so he jumped in a nearby Comanche, slapped it in four low and skillfully busted through some hedgerows and over rock fences eluding the Germans. I know there are some time-space continuum issues with the above, but who's keeping track?
  5. Here's my top ten reasons for owning an MJ...in no particular order 1. Just having one makes you an extremely cool dude... 2. Its scientifically proven that they make you smarter....the addiction hits quick, next thing you know you've made major modifications and turned every bolt on it.....much cheaper than going to a trade school, your MJ will teach you everything you need to know. Its like they have the soul of Mr. Miyagi in them... 3. You will start to feel your body creating more testosterone from the moment you first sit in it.....Yes, they even make you more of a man! 4. John Wayne and Steve McQueen both drive MJs in heaven... 5. You never have to worry about seeing an MJ in a rap video.... 6. You catch more fish if you drive the MJ to the Lake... 7. You can run over stuff BETTER in an MJ... 8. You can have fun just looking at it... 9. There are parts everywhere... 10. If you ever need to know anything about MJs, just ask the other super manly, fish catchin', stuff runnin' overin', extremely cool dudes on this site.
  6. wow, I've seen concertina do that...that's pretty good wire!
  7. Welcome to my day to day. Flipping through project threads sucks without any pics............... at least you can surf the actual web, I'm restricted to AKO on work computers... of course as a lower enlisted I don't have a need for being on a computer really  Been there and done that!!! :wall:
  8. Try this site....http://www2.dana.com/expertforms/demenu.aspx Use the BoM search, I've used it a couple of times, seems to be helpful. The BoM should be on the front of the long axle tube, but I've seen a lot of axles that were completely indecipherable.
  9. Comanches were the greatest fighting horseman in N. America, and their heritage and history is amazing. Not always peaceful,,,,there's a reason most of the early and major settlements in TX were limited to the SE side of the Balcones Escarpment, its because the Comanches owned the hill country and beyond. Draw a line from Dallas down to Waco through Austin to San Antonio. My great great grandmother was a Comanche, she died of a nose bleed in an horse drawn wagon. My Grandfather was really the last with obvious Indian features, and I'm just an American mutt. I was invited to join the nation, but declined, not sure if I'm Comanche enough??? I am a little thankful for some of the residual features though, I should die with a head full of hair. Thus the logon name - my parents and most of the kin folk still live in Comanche County, TX around Proctor, Dublin, Deleon and Comanche, TX. Bottom Line: There's never been another truck worthy of the name!
  10. Comanche County

    MPG?

20-24 before the lift with stock rims and 30x9.5x15s with 3.07 gears 16-17 after the lift with 15"x8" steel wheels, somewhere about 6-7" inches of lift, 3.73s and 33" Mickey Ts. (no $$$ for lower gears right now), I'm going to throw my 31's on to see if it will be better. It's a 89' with 4.0 and AX-15.
  11. Ren, Pete, thanks for the input
  12. I've got eight year old AALs on my XJ, they're still holding strong, its the weak original main leafs that are turning u-shaped. I agree, its the quality of the AAL that matters. :hijack: On a similar note: I've got a pair of JY MJ leafs that I plan on making a bastard pack with. I really need the extra load capacity to haul stuff. I'm set up SOA,,, I figure they are the same arch and wouldn't flex against each other as much as an AAL and only lift the truck a little maybe 1-2". I've seen a full pack of two sets of MJ springs on another truck and they lifted it a little higher than I want. So I was thinking about either an extra main leaf or adding the second leaf? Any recommendations?
  13. You're in my prayers bro.
  14. I've got the RE drop brackets from Motion Offroad, I called them on the phone and got a better deal than the listed price on their website, very cool. I like em, I've got OME 6.5" springs with 1.75" spacers, They're used springs but they were in great shape when I got em, hardly used at all....however, it only equaled out to about 7" up front. Anyways, the RE drop brackets fit perfect, they're heavy duty and definitely a quality product. I had no problems installing them. I've got zero death wobble the truck rides fantastic, Its my DD. Of note, with this much lift, I think OTK steering is required, I just haven't gotten around to it. The steering angle is really steep and the passenger side tie-rod end is almost completely maxed out which limits my droop. I also went ahead and put a ZJ drop pitman in because I was planning of getting a track bar drop bracket too, haven't got around the that either. The ZJ pitman arm was about 1-1.5" inches lower and it did contribute to some bump steer but its almost negligible, I'll probably switch it out soon, when I get around to it,,, :shake: as soon as I finish all the other things I've got planned.... :shake:
  15. Well, if anyone is interested I can contact him.
  16. "It has the 304 V8 and if you can ignore the blown exhaust gasket, it sounds pretty good." I love that!
  17. What does my wife keep complaining about? Is there something wrong with liking old jeeps and scouts like this one,,,,and likin' to beer with guys who have em? I might buy it just to make her mad. http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1060891507.html
  18. You're all committing Blaspheme! I'll pray hard tonight to the Jeep Gods that they do not strike you down for considering a Ford or Chevy bed on your truck! Umm, wait a minute :hmm: I just remembered the 8.8 rear axle I put in  Oh no, I'm gonna burn, I'm not going to Jeep heaven for my reward of 72 Lifted Jeeps with Virgin interiors!!!!
  19. I have the same problem with my clock, I think it works but can't really see it. That's a great link,,,,I'm going to get started while my head is in the shop getting rebuilt.
  20. I'll have to try some of the TrXus tires, I do hear lots of good things about em,,,,I love my Baja Claws too, loud and lumpy but they grab anything.
  21. My wife's 07 Grand Caravan has studded winter tires and it grips awesome, I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it sticks as good or better (really better) than the 31" BFG muds on the XJ, But that's only on ice or hard packed snow, and that's because its an XJ and not an MJ, and no they're not alike!!!! No matter if I had racing slicks greased with crisco and hog fat on ice, My Manche would always stick better! This winter has been pretty weak in the Rockies frontrange (we're at 7,100 ft), we have had a couple of really bad days....I spent a few years up in Fairbacks also, drove my old 65 Mustang with siped performance tires all winter long. Got a little experience on slippery roads. my vote for traction goes: 1. Drive the MJ - of course 2. Chains (real ones - not the cable type, come apart too easy), I guess they all do if you drive too fast. Taking these on and off can go quick if you turn it into a drill and rehearse it once in a while, also use extra tensioners, more the merrier as long as they are secure. Use the right size chains and cut the extra links off. Chains that are too big will tear the hell out of your wheel wells, take a look at my XJ sometime. 3. Studded Mud type Tires, my BFG MTs and MT Baja Claws don't have the little holes for studs, but I've got a Mud King that is studdable, I think that might be the way to go for all around drive-ability in crappy weather, still not better traction than chains. 4. Regular Mud type tires, good for snow, decent on ice. Skinnier the better, wide tires float, skinny ones dig. 5. Winter specific tires with lots of bitting edges. 6. Any type tire with lots of weight in the back - cool man type stuff in the bed like sand, lumber, tools, more tools, chainsaws, cases of beer, welding equipment, guns, or stacks of Popular Mechanic Magazines and those old Time Life Fighter Jet Books. N/A - I know this may be debatable, as everything I just wrote, (I'm a certified mechanic by shade tree only),,,, BFG TAs or any other All Terrain tire are really street tires. IMHO, they stink on ice, snow, or mud and are overrated for off-road use. On that same token though, mud tires have a lot of challenges on wet roads and I for one will never use General Grabbers again! Once upon a time, I rear ended a Suburban in the XJ on I-5 on a rainy December Tacoma day, another car spun out in front of the 'Burb, she stopped, I couldn't and slid right into her at about 30 mph....My wife still reminds me that I tried to evade to the left and smashed her side of the Ch'reekee instead of mine. :brows: I told her, "Baby I had to go left, do you know how much it costs to replace an airbag?" :smart: Also, our first child was a 6-day old infant in the back seat with the mother in law, The baby was ok, she never even woke up, the Mother in Law got a sore knee  I blame the tires - The compound on those tires was as hard as a freakin rock and in that situation I should have been able to stop but just kept sliding. Bottom line, ATs on Snow, Ice, or Mud aren't so good, neither are Mud Tires on rainy roads, and when you're on a slippery surface: SLOW DOWN! All this talk about snow reminds me why I bought the MJ for $900..."Baby this will be perfect to plow with, this truck doesn't need anything else, I'll make at least 5K plowing driveways around here this winter" Eight months later,,,,after finding this website and blowing (I mean investing) 5K in the MJ,,,, I still haven't plowed a single driveway except mine.... but I've got a really cool truck now!
  22. Yep, my 89' with a 4.0L and AX-15 5 Speed came with 3.07s front and rear.
  23. Use a Flat head screwdriver that's just a little too large to fit in the Allen bolt,,,,then hammer it in with a BFH,,,,then tighten away.... :D Dang I'm a redneck.... :brows:
