  1. for reference my bro bought a 21 spline 231J from can. for 100$ shipped the shipping from canada to ga was either 40$ or 60 dollars i can't remember which.
  2. Yeah but the toy doesn't come with rust and the engine probably works better on the toy... :) Just kidding. My MJ was FREE! So there! don't tell the IRS!! :brows:
  3. i wanted to protest but i can't see any reason they would be less beefy than stock. just make sure its really strong cause if it fails thats your @$$
  4. t-case out of pull-a-part is 113$ i would expect a 231 23spline to go for more than a 242 cause TJ guys are lookin for 231s alot of times. and they aren't as cheap as XJ/MJ guys ;)
  5. i honestly just shed a tear. that's the first one i've seen totaled.
  6. how exactly DO you bend up brake lines without folding them? i've been wondering that in all these brake threads.
  7. I'm assuming this means new knuckles, hubs, crazy awesome truss, 31spline superior chromollys? idk if you've done that much but I'm interested to see what all you HAVE done. i got a welder and don't wanna go full width :brows:
  8. wheeling auto is so much easier. wow, i also don't like rolling backwards at all or having to jab the brakes on a hill climb.
  9. i've never been able (on 2 diff jeeps) to get the brackets off the bumper. always taken the bumper off at the unibody brackets and all.
  10. i've got a 1997 TJ motor in my 89 manche... got any questions i can go look. not sure about the EGR or manifolds... haven't looked closely... i passed emissions last year but not this year. I'm gonna guess he swapped in the manifolds with the motor becuase i know renix manifolds wouldnt fit it. also, the temp sensor from the back of the head had to be adapted to fit into the thermostat housing. i can get pics of all of it soon if anyone needs. EDIT: if someone shows/tells me where that knock sensor is i can find out what's up with that.
  11. he just means they're not C channel like the stock ones we have. they're sort-of tube, not sure exactly what tube they are.
  12. Am I missing something on JohnQ's original post? I thought all MJ's had an electric fans & a mech. fan regardless of years or engines. But all I've owned were HO models. But I have replaced all the slab straight bladed fans with the 1996+ XJ curved blade fans; they are quieter and seem to pass more air. not some models, i think it came with ones that had a.c? correct me if I'm wrong, my 89 w AC has it, bros 90 w/ ac has it, moms 95 w ac has it. go-jeep did a writeup on replacing the clutch fan with an electric one.
  13. look nice, i wish i didnt have to buy cheapies.
  14. also the 231 is rated slightly higher than the 242 for strength, don't remember the numbers but its higher. my brother had a 242 XJ and it was pretty amazing in the ice/snow... he literally stomped it in the ice (open front/rear stock height/walmart tires) and our moms friend barely hit the gas in his GT stang with a locked rear and we took off, he stayed put. (ice, not snow.) same story in the rain, the difference from fulltime to 2wd was AMAZING, it felt almost irresponsible to leave it in 2wd in the rain. (that case failed from being rebuilt and filled with gear oil (they take ATF) at a NAPA repair shop.)
  15. the leak comes from above the freeze plugs, but no we didnt check or replace them
  16. i've got a flywheel off a 1990 i can lay a straightedge across tonight. ill post up what we find.
  17. so is it gear driven then? edit: i hate you for living so far away, most working AX15s cost way more than that already pulled. not to mention with a np208 on it. that saves the cost of SYE if you wanted one.

    mpg rant

i've basically found that my truck gets $#!T mileage anyway you look at it... but i can normally pull 20mpg on the highway stock w 4.0/manual/3.07s round town its more like 16 but thats not the trucks fault, its the damned traffic. this whole area is rediculous.
  19. some people take the temp sensor at the rear of the head out, and park with the nose down making that the highest point in the system while they fill it. that method usually gets all the air out.
  20. JESUS!!! 2,200 HOLY WOW! ive payed less than that for my truck and any regular maintnence including 2 radiators, and fuel injectors and all sorts of little things! BWAH!
  21. its definately not the head, thats a pic of where its STARTING, the coolant doesnt show until below the headers, so it can't be the head. does anyone know how to 'fix' a cracked block? pretty sure its jus the water jacket and not the cyl walls. I've heard JB weld, how well will this hold up? any tips?
  22. 500$ MJ, 800$ tires. thats how we do it baby. looks bad though man! i bet those tires last a looong time too.
  23. I'm gonna link yall to a naxja thread my brother started, just wondering if anyone on here could lend some knowledge or hints to the situation. cause HES BORROWING MY TRUCK TIL ITS FIXED!!! so help us! haha http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?p=243443756#post243443756 basically, just threw in a new old 4.0 (120ish thousand miles) good oil pressure, strong idle. crappy revving (sensor related?) and coolant leak even when not running. TIA, nick
  24. after THREE MINUTES of idling you hit 220... thats no cooling problem my friend, sounds fine to me. is your electric fan coming on when it gets hot? if not you can wire up a switch to turn it on. as long as you can drive without it hitting 220 you should be good, mine will kill 240 if i let it idle without the electric fan on, but the fan will keep it right at 210 (operating temp). check the pressure bottle for cracks, and after the jeep gets warm (but before the cap starts peeing) cut if off and listen for leaks.
